Gee whiz. Okay I'll cease stepping on folks toes. If its alright can I donate my last vessel for a subsequent Official round. I genuinely think its an interesting vessel.

Bucks -> RE: Think About It... (3/25/2007 6:15:42 AM)

Ok seeing we all want to help this along, what about this for an idea. The pic I posted is this round, Dan you can take the next and Taitennek can have the one after if he likes. If I haven't updated after 48 hours sort it out yourself before I get back and I'll update the ladder as soon and as often I can.

Thoughts?

Darren

mikmykWS -> RE: Think About It... (3/25/2007 6:27:31 AM)

Like a banner is a new thing on the internet and Hayes is really one of those guys right.

Guys this string was kinda fun..can you just stick to having fun with it instead of this other stuff..and that would be all clans Darren, including yours.[;)]

Bucks -> RE: Think About It... (3/25/2007 7:03:13 AM)

mik push the right buttons and it all goes away. Your call...

mikmykWS -> RE: Think About It... (3/25/2007 7:38:24 AM)

What all goes away Darren?

Okay so maybe move on? What the next pic you got?

danrhayes -> RE: H3 ANW Platform Photo ID Test - 015-1 (3/25/2007 1:48:18 PM)

Um it is a Falcon 20 (perhaps being called Mystere 20 as in French service) but Belgian not Portuguese.

The plane is in service with the Royal Belgian Airforce, but it isn't a Falcon 20.

Here is the Complete picture......

danrhayes -> RE: H3 ANW Platform Photo ID Test - 015-1 (3/25/2007 2:20:43 PM)

Okay I give up. What is it? Bearing in mind that mounting position for the horizontal stabilizers is a Dassault bizjet trademark.

Daniel

Too bad........ You were almost right. The plane is a Dassault Falcon 900B and it is operating from Brussel-Melsbroek [Belgium].

Cheers,
Frans.

Here some additional info:

http://www.scramble.nl/be.htm

danrhayes -> RE: H3 ANW Platform Photo ID Test - 015-1 (3/25/2007 2:30:38 PM)

Um no the Falcon 900 is a trijet. That is a twin and it is a Falcon 20. According to scramble a Falcon 20E.

Daniel

danrhayes -> RE: H3 ANW Platform Photo ID Test - 015-1 (3/25/2007 2:33:21 PM)

Apart from the number of engines the Falcon twins have the horizontal stabs mounted relatively further up the vertical fin when compared to the Trijet 50 and 900s. That was the give away in the very first pic.

Daniel

FransKoenz -> RE: H3 ANW Platform Photo ID Test - 015-1 (3/25/2007 2:36:56 PM)

Strange.............

I got the info from scramble.nl, but I guess you could be right as well[;)]

Sorry if I was wrong with this.

Tait.

Ex UK Batch 2 Type 22, new owners Romania [8D]

Exocet removed also the GWS 25 Sea Wolf and the Type 911 trackers also removed

danrhayes -> RE: H3 ANW Platform Photo ID Test - 015-1 (3/26/2007 12:51:32 AM)

Well done Paul. Figured you'd get it.

The Regele Ferdinand commissioned into Romanian service in 2004. As Paul said the Exocet SSMs and Sea Wolf SAMs and associated equipment were removed prior to delivery.

here is a report from Janes back in 2004

quote:

Romanian Navy receives refreshed frigates; further enhancements will follow
The Romanian Navy received the first of two ex-Royal Navy Type 22 Batch 2
frigates, reactivated and modernised, at ceremonies held at Portsmouth naval
base on 9 September. The Regele Ferdinand (formerly HMS Coventry) will be
joined by the Regina Maria (previously HMS London) early in 2005.
The reactivation and modernisation is being achieved through a £116 million
contract (US$207m) awarded to BAE Systems Customer Solutions & Support by
the UK Defence Logistics Organisation in January 2003. Fleet Support Ltd
(FSL) carried out the refurbishment work at its Portsmouth facility, with
Rolls-Royce reconditioning the ship's two Olympus TM3 and two Tyne RM1C gas
turbine engines.
Equipment fitted as part of the upgrade includes an OTO Melara 76mm Super
Rapid gun with an Ultra Electronics/ Radamec 2500 electro-optical tracking
system; an AMS Nautis fire-control system; a BAE Systems MPS2000
message-handling system; an Inmarsat B global maritime distress and safety
system; a Terma SKWS decoy system; and a Sperry Marine Mk 39 ring-laser gyro
compass and LMX 420 Global Positioning System.
According to Ian Booth, managing director of FSL: "The Regele Ferdinand's
sea trials have shown that these ships are extremely capable and this
specific experience will allow FSL to provide valuable assistance when phase
two of the regeneration is subsequently carried out in Romania. We are
delighted to hand over the first Type 22 frigate to Romania on time and
below cost."
The second-phase upgrade, planned to take place in Romania around 2008-09,
will focus on improving the ships' capabilities with enhanced command,
control and communications facilities, the addition of new air-defence and
anti-ship weapons, and improved electronic warfare systems.

It will be interesting to see the final fit of these vessels. Even if the RN is haemoraging at least these ships and those in Brazilian and Chilean service are getting a new lease on life.

Bingo!!!!!

The ship on the photograph is the leading ship of her class.
The other 7 ships were all sold to the Peruvian Navy after their service for the Dutch Navy. The HrMs Friesland was sold for scrap.
