Moving into digs tonight until the family move down. Looks like I'll be hogging the DSL bandwidth for a few hours...

What is "digs"?

BTW, is new job OK (you previously said it was "different")?

"Digs" are living quarters. Can be a house, a flat, a hole in the ground...

Historiker -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 1:48:11 PM)

Hell all.

My new "mobile internet-USB-Stick" that allowes me 3,6 Mbit/s (if HSDPA is available here) should be registered and active in a few hours. No more 56k then - and the possibility to download AE! [&o]

Yep. We've got the 20 week scan for sprog so that's more important than AE as far as I'm concerned [:D]

Good. At least somebody's got his priorities straight.

says the guy who already has AE. [:'(]

Torsten, pray that you are not only in GPRS (extremely bad) or EDGE (much better but worse than HSDPA) range...

HMS Resolution -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 2:12:51 PM)

I have determined that the best use of my valuable work time today is watching youtube videos of the mating dance of the blue-footed booby.

Historiker -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 2:14:59 PM)

My mobile internet works!
Unfortunately with GPRS, so 236,8kbit/s but at least, it works! Now I'll be able to download AE in 7 hours [X(]

You only have one pair of cycling shorts? How bad are your saddle sores?

Of course I have more than one pair, but all of the same kind. What means saddle sores? Pains?

ATM, there are only two things limiting the distance I'm riding: The pain from the saddle beginning at about 80km and the shoes. I only have fibre glass ground and consequently, after 50-60 km it hurts badly. Getting off the bike and masaging the foot for 5min helps for another 30km, but that's really uncomfortable...

I'm going to buy new shoes, soon, but I'm still uncertain what to do with the saddle, it even hurts when using cushion. Maybe its the friction of the trouser, but when standing and being off the saddle, there's no more pain immediately.

Saddle sores are also known as boils - like extremely painful pimples (acne). It is when bacteria, sweat and dirt combine to clog the skin's pores and become infected. Very uncomfortable...

It sounds like you just have a problem with your saddle. Since the bike is new, it could just be getting used to the new saddle, or it could be a bad saddle for you. How different is it from the one on your road bike? Is it adjusted the same as your road bike?
Over the years I have found that saddle adjustment is often more key than padding... you want it set up so that your pelvic bones contact the wide portion of the seat and without any tilt so that they tend to stay there. Too many guys will lower the nose of the saddle to "relieve pressure on the groin" but what that does is cause you to slide forward to where you are sitting on the nose of the saddle and not the meat of the saddle.

I do advocate using shoes with carbon fibre soles - the stiffer the shoe the better in my opinion!

Mike Solli -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 3:07:39 PM)

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 3:13:27 PM)

Work is damned busy this morning, so that will keep me occupied while I go and join the "squatters" in the AE subforum.  [:D]

Terminus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 3:22:09 PM)

Well, Erik has just confirmed that it'll be available by noon Eastern time at the latest. I think I'll duck out now, rather than wait for the whole site to crash...[:D]

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 3:26:08 PM)

Just jumped over here to post that news.  [:D]

I'm not getting very much of my "urgent" work done so far today.... [sm=innocent0009.gif]

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 3:27:10 PM)

The link in the WitP forum is now officially a redirect to the AE forum now.  [sm=happy0065.gif]

Terminus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 3:33:18 PM)

I have a weird feeling that things will get rather quiet on the WitP forum now.

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/27/2009 4:12:03 PM)

Crap, my discount submission got eaten by the web, and now Erik says the guy who works on my helpdesk problem is sleeping in Oz.  [8|]
