bobo, I like that idea. I started a thread in the AE war room, with a link to this one, but it seems that it may grow there of it's own accord.

It does, but I couldn't do more than download it today, anyway, at least until this evening. Erik has promised to get the guy on it first thing, when he wakes up. [:)]

Both, but that also depends on where you live. My parents live in the Bavarian Forest, where's a lot of deer, roe deer and wild boar in deep forests. If you live in the northern flatlands, you probably prefer hunting birds as there are only roe deer and wild boar. In the bavarian forest, you only occasionally hunt with shotguns. Usually, you sit in raised blinds using a rifle.

so kinda like texas where you do a little of both. i can't wait dove season is comming up in about a month.[:D]

Before I sign off, I wanted to ask the collective wisdom of THE THREAD your thoughts on the best books on the war in Burma and Slim's campaign to retake the Malaya.

I have Shore's "Bloody Shambles" series on the air war.  I am nearly finished with book 3.  I have Bayly and Harper's "Forgotten Armies" which I am reading in parallel with the Shore series.  Finally, I have Winton's "The Forgotten Fleet" of which I have only read the first chapter; I am waiting to catch-up in time in the other two books.

Your thoughts?
thanks,
mike

Slim's Defeat into Victory is an excellent book. He's surprisingly open about his mistakes and has some very good analysis of the IJA's strengths and weaknesses. I read Slim's and Monty's memoirs back-to-back. The difference between the two books is jarring to say the least.

Well, it has downloaded, and having given it a quick look, it seems great. Got to get back to work, but I will see you guys later. And I say lets at least get this thread to 1000 before moving on to a AE THE THREAD completely.
