mavnb -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 4:02:35 AM)

greetings,

I am sincerly sorry to tell you that I joined on the first of August asking for
russia north and now because I wasn't looking at the board early in my morning
I would have to let go my spot?? Seriously, rufustfirefly was late coming and he should
not take my place[:-] Now I wonder, should I leave and go to celebrate my brother's
40th birthday[&:] let me know.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 10:20:24 AM)

@Mavnb
This is a practice game to familiarise us all with the command structure, not the actual game, or a game to familiarise us with our eventual posts. Filling the posts is also to see who is still interested and who has drifted elsewhere. 40th birthdays come once in a lifetime, so I'd go if I were you and there will be plenty of GPW playing when you get back.[:)].

Will you be able to take West Front in the Practice or is this birthday do going to take you out for a while?

RufusTFirefly -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 11:06:36 AM)

@ mavnb

Dont worry. As I was the last to come I will be the last to take a slot. Dont want to push you out. Of cause you are first, then cames me.

So, whether you go to birthday or not, is just something to discuss with your team. But it does not interfer with the question who is part of team or the question whether I am in or not.

And I think Mehring is right: 40th birthday is a reason to celebrate [:)].

If you are away for some time, maybe the one who takes HQ can command your AG as long you are absent and you will take command as soon as you are back. (Just a suggestion. Of cause it is your business to handle this. So, hope you dont mind when I make comment on this.)

mavnb -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 11:52:42 AM)

put tha alarm clock at 6h30 am On a Sunday[X(]
to read the board. I am just away one day but I can still
do the practice game although I would not do it because
we might get to know some ennemies strategies.[:D]

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 12:04:21 PM)

It's ok, RufusT is playing the Germans to start with, so no strategy will be revealed. I'll put you into West Front. All slots filled so we await Mr Firefly's file!

STAVKA- Mehring (surprise, surprise)
NW Front- TheArchduke
W Front- mavnb
SW Front- Ccr

Germans- RufusTFirefly

Command Pool-
When we start the game for real, this will be split into the two sides. I suggesst that command pool follow progress of the side they are assigned to and should feel free to submit operational plans to their HQ.

Bartheart

RufusTFirefly

RufusTFirefly -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 2:23:27 PM)

Jst hear the wolf howling early in the morning. Be prepared, mavnb, the hunter is coming.

To be serious: The first wave of attack is launched. Mavnb, you just have to stnad the heaviest blow, for I have not yet done enough recon in the north and of course Romanian front will not launch the major attack. So, most happened in the middle.

Stavka has all information about the first battles.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 3:11:30 PM)

Accessing situation....

mavnb -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 5:04:22 PM)

@RufusTFirefly

Ok, I can handle it.

@Mehring

Commander. We are under attack! I need all the resources sent to me so that I can stabilize the front and push the ennemy back.

RufusTFirefly -> RE: GPW v6a (8/31/2008 5:22:31 PM)

[:D]

Yes, thats it. Your teammates will be glad to hear, that they dont have to handle incoming troups and supply. Just all to mavnb! My men are already waiting ... [;)]

TheArchduke -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 5:46:39 AM)

This is fun, looking forward when I can execute my orders.:)

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 12:47:40 PM)

Archy authorised to execute. Contrary to previous, PM file to Ccr who has taken over SW Front and is also free to execute. No word from mavnb. Has he gone to a wedding or been hit by the Luftwaffe? In case it's a help, the game file can be PMed archived as a .zip, but .rar files are not supported.

Ccr -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 2:00:50 PM)

To clarify: Will I be receiving a turn file from you or mavnb? i.e. As SW front I will be the last Sov player to 'execute' turn?

Looking forward to smashing the fascists attack etc!

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 2:25:24 PM)

There's no specific order of resolution, it could change from turn to turn.

I assumed Dookie would go first but he seems offline. Ccr, you could execute first and PM him the file to continue. It's just that if he's secretly doing his move and not following the thread here.... you might have to do your turn again. If you do go first, email AND PM him please to minimise this risk.

mavnb hasn't replied to orders yet, I guess he's at the wedding, so he's sure to go last this turn.

mavnb -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 4:57:56 PM)

to all,

I have reveiced the turn but have to go gulfing this
afternoon so wil do it tonight eastern time. then I send it to??
email is mavnb@hotmail.com. I agree with the guy that sent me his adress.
We must have each others emails.

@ mehring
Will you be online tonight (est time) if not you should
send me about 50% of all troops available.

TheArchduke -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 5:04:56 PM)

To me, mavnb. After you are done.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 5:15:12 PM)

@Archduke
If you got the file from Ccr, go ahead with your turn, you have your boundary with West Front so no need to follow any order. Then send it to mavnb

@mavnb
yes, I'll be online tonight.

@all
files by emails it is!
tumbaybongo@hotmail.com

TheArchduke -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 5:38:36 PM)

Will do my turn.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 7:13:00 PM)

Anything notworthy to report to STAVKA from the fronts?

TheArchduke -> RE: GPW v6a (9/1/2008 9:36:05 PM)

Hmm, good point. A sitreport afterwards might be a good idea.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/2/2008 10:01:12 AM)

Reminder!!! This is the amended, evolving turn sequence we're testing

1. HQ issues orders and sends current file to all players.

2. AGs/Fronts request strategic support (if centrally managed) and any special unit/supply allocation and question any orders they disagree with.

3. Having consulted all concerned, HQ allocates strategic support and transport capacity****, authorises inter-front transfers (if any) and detemines that turn's order of play (movement/combat resolution) among the Fronts/AGs. Orders are amended if needed.

4. Fronts execute orders. Last AG/Front returns file to HQ. All make turn report to HQ.

5. HQ replenishes frontline lower HQs/units from production, performs production and strategic movement functions .****

6. HQ sends file to other side.

****I wasn’t sure how to deal with STAVKA rail capacity, ****

whether

1. STAVKA assign each Front a variable numerical quantity of capacity every turn(eg 20 000 points) to use themselves
2. let Fronts designate units for STAVKA strategic transport after their turn, ie in step 5 (above).
3. Assign general priority to various Fronts and let them move their units using STAVKA capacity.

In the event we’ve used the third option for the first turn.

In the first case there is likely to be wasted capacity each turn.

In the second case, if Fronts designate more units for STAVKA strategic transfer than STAVKA has capacity, those extra units will get left behind, in the case of this withdrawal, badly exposed.

The third option is probably too vague to work, but of the two Fronts that have done their turn and reported back, neither seem to have used STAVKA capacity anyway.

Perhaps a composite version might work, ie

4 STAVKA assign each Front a variable numerical quantity of capacity (eg 20 000 points) to use themselves then designate in their After Turn Report any units they would like moved if possible with any left over capacity.

This way, the Fronts will not EXPECT units to be transferred after their turn and should not, then, leave them vulnerable. Such extra transfers are a luxury. But as much as possible of the capacity available gets used.

Ideas please.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/5/2008 11:57:22 AM)

Just got a PM from RufusT asking whether or not the 1st turn has ended and what's going on.

I sent out an end of turn report with the German turn 2 game file to everyone by email. Ccr, mavnb and TheArchduke definitely got theirs, but the short is, yes turn 1 is done.

I'll re-send to you, RufusT, but please could you check you got the first one?

Otherwise, British exil has kindly agreed to take over the whole German Army for our practice, so RufusT no longer has to fight with himself [sm=crazy.gif]. A number of players are away until Sunday, so nothing will be happening until Sunday evening/Monday.

He also noted that I've just quit a WaW game in which nobody kept the other players informed as to the game's progress and suggested a number of remedies for our game.

1. We ask reliable players to join our game rather than advertising on the forum.

If anyone knows such players who want to join our game or the command pool, "bring them on."  I asked one of the players RufusT (and I) regard as reliable the same with regard to starting a new WaW game. He replied he didn't know that many reliable players[:D]. I suspect the other suggestion is more realistic.

[sm=happy0065.gif] 2. We should use PM to informthe other players of what is going on. It means, when someone has finished turn and has send file, it would be nice to leave a message here that the file is on the way to player X. So, the others know the game is running and player X knows he will get the file and can give a reply in case the mail has not been delivered. Otherwise he might wait for a file that had already been send and noone knows why we have to wait in vain for any further steps in the game.[sm=happy0065.gif]

Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but I call this common courtesy/common sense. I never thought you'd have to stipulate this as an entry requirement, but I see all5n does in his Iron age games.

So, yes. I vote all players are allowed to have a life. But when life takes players from the game, they inform the others. If they repeatedly don't, they are out of the game. Likwise, post in the thread when you've done your turn, please. Some of us sad geezers really look forward to our turn coming round again. and more than any other AT variant, this game is about communication.

zigzag -> RE: GPW v6a (9/5/2008 3:55:03 PM)

I would still like to play when we get this up and runing

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/5/2008 4:35:15 PM)

No probs, and you can join another WaW if we get it up and running.

TheArchduke -> RE: GPW v6a (9/7/2008 6:02:06 PM)

Just wanted to say that the Stavka Report is an excellent read. I think it could provide a good basis for an AAR if we take some photos.

Which means, the Orders/Counterorders and Reports are posted. Good idea or a bad idea?:)

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/7/2008 6:08:41 PM)

Post'em, show people what this is about and how it could work.

british exil -> RE: GPW v6a (9/7/2008 9:37:19 PM)

File received

Will try to send out tomorrow night.

british exil -> RE: GPW v6a (9/9/2008 12:22:10 AM)

played my turn sent to mehring.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/9/2008 1:17:57 AM)

Got the file, thanks, will continue in the morning.

Mehring -> RE: GPW v6a (9/9/2008 11:21:24 PM)

29th June orders are out, except for NW Front.

A few things-

1. Can anyone tell me why transfering trains from STAVKA to Front HQs is absurdly and prohibitively expensive?
2. STAVKA has allocated rail capacity to two Fronts this turn. It's the first point in the orders.

3. A new way to execute orders which might speed things up-
When your orders are discussed and finalised, check this thread.

If nobody is executing their orders, post here that you are executing yours, then nobody should do theirs until you've finished. Post when you've finished then other players can ask you for the file when they're ready.

If somebody has posted that they're now executing their orders, you can ask them to send you the file when they're finished.

That also "encourages" players to notify everyone where the file is and to follow news here.
Worth a try.

mavnb -> RE: GPW v6a (9/10/2008 1:37:18 AM)

@ mehring
ok. If I understand, we discuss orders then I execute them.
Therefore: A) you give me orders
B) I go yes but why not...
C) You go YES or No.
D) I execute orders.
E) I ask for troops and send file to you.

ORDERS AND MY COMMENTS ARE IN BLUE:
South Front
STAVKA Rail capacity: None
Sevastopol now has 2 trains.

6th Reserve Army
To march to the river line Kherson-Nikopol and prepare defensive positions. I am thinking of getting to Nikalayev instead.

Sevastopol Military District
Black Sea Fleet to remain off Odessa ready to provide fire support. Transports to join fleet in case evacuation is necessary.

Fortify western land approaches to Crimea in depth and garrison as fast as possible. Garrison eastern approaches in depth.
Therefore, this is B in the above sequence and you reply will be C
