Day Air attack on Darwin , at 36,84 [X(] Japanese aircraft Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 176 [8|] Allied aircraft Catalina I x 5 Wellington III x 36 Liberator VI x 69 P-40B Tomahawk x 72 P-38G Lightning x 87 B-25C Mitchell x 25 B-25J Mitchell x 12 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-44-IIb Tojo: 61 destroyed, 55 damaged H8K Emily: 2 destroyed Ki-46-III Dinah: 1 destroyed Allied aircraft losses Catalina I: 2 damaged Wellington III: 17 damaged Liberator VI: 43 damaged P-40B Tomahawk: 9 destroyed, 30 damaged P-38G Lightning: 46 destroyed B-25C Mitchell: 16 damaged B-25J Mitchell: 7 damaged Japanese ground losses: 238 casualties reported Airbase hits 27 Airbase supply hits 1 Runway hits 52 Aircraft Attacking: 10 x B-25C Mitchell bombing at 10000 feet 6 x B-25J Mitchell bombing at 10000 feet ... a big raid from Wyndham suddenly shows up over Darwin and once again our fighter defense has itīs pants down... out of around 250 fighters on Cap we see 176 in the air which is 70% and not that bad, BUT we get bounced!!! [:@] oh my... we defend over our base, our fighters are set to 20.000 ft, the enemy comes in at 10.000ft with the bombers (means 13.000ft for his fighters) and hey ho, we get bounced... so the first dozen Tojos are shot down immediately by the Lightnings that suffer not a single loss during that phase. Our Tojo sentai in the lead gets shredded and then my other Tojos show up, now bouncing the Lightnings, bringing the kill rate up again. When the Tomahawks show up, we get bounced again, the P-40Bs achieve a kill rate in their favour. Then the usual totally off Nikmod fighter vs bomber result, with NOT A SINGLE BOMBER SHOT DOWN during the replay!!!!! [sm=crazy.gif][sm=crazy.gif][sm=crazy.gif] 84 bombers get damaged during the replay but not even O N E is shot down during the replay... boah, Iīm getting sick... out of 84 bombers, then 7 crash but not even O N E of the 43 damaged Liberator VI. Oh boy, Nik... no more comment on that one... [>:] I donīt know if this attack was due to Miller being bored or for whatever reason. At least I canīt see a good reason to launch this attack, as in the end the enemy lost 6 weeks of P-38 replacements, while we have to send two of the Tojo sentais into training schools again. Due to the fact that Nikmod never really sees the bombers being hurt, Iīve totally ramped up my fighter production and therefore I really donīt care about fighter losses on the ground anymore. My Tony R&D has nearly reached 500 ac but the date hasnīt moved forward and is still at 9/43. I hope to get this fighter at 7/43 and then I will be able to employ the first 10 Tony sentais within a month. With a better gun value, an armor value of 2 and a maneuverability rating nearly as good as the allied fighters, I hope to be more competitive as the Tojo stays totally obsolete against enemy fighters. Ok against unescorted bombers, but obsolete as soon as enemy fighters show up. Even though we achieved an A2A kill rate in our favour today, you may not forget that we fought over our own base, the enemy was on escort and we only employed pilots with 80+ exp, while I doubt that the enemy fields pilots that are equally skilled (not yet, but probably soon). I expect to face equally skilled fighter pilots within the next couple of months though. Miller so far missed to fight a war of attrition and if he now tries to start one without of his short ranged (5 hexes) fighters then he will attrit his long range escorts ten times faster than I would run out of point defense fighters. IMO he should have tried to grab a base somewhere in the Solomons to start the atrittion war, or even better, he should have tried to immediately exploit his attack on Timor. For the moment, all our hopes are leaning towards the arrival of the Tony, I hope it wonīt be disappointing...
