I'm glad Franck has rematerialised. Didn't seem like he had just dropped out. Just send us the turn when you get around to it Matto.

Franck -> RE: PBEM (3/24/2009 6:01:38 PM)

Yea I tough I had sent the turn... I have been sick all weekend... Maybe I just played it and forgot to send...

lenin -> RE: PBEM (3/24/2009 6:03:23 PM)

Hope you're feeling better Franck. I had that SARS like virus that has been sweeping the UK and it laid me low for a week!

Kingmaker -> RE: PBEM (3/24/2009 6:25:22 PM)

HiHi

Yer Ditto, good to hear you are OK Franck.

All the Best
Peter

barbarossa2 -> RE: PBEM (3/24/2009 6:40:30 PM)

Cool. :) Glad to hear you are okay too Frank. And hope you get well soon. Bein' sick sucks.

Matto -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 10:56:14 AM)

Still without Austria turn ...

barbarossa2 -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 4:36:38 PM)

It would be nice to get this game rolling again. :)

Matto -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 5:26:56 PM)

Turn send today ... so now it is up to you all [8D]

lenin -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 6:05:11 PM)

Good that we are up and running again. I'll probably submit my turn after work tomorrow as the SARS has returned with a vengeance and I'm going straight to bed...

barbarossa2 -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 8:19:54 PM)

Is anyone else getting major problems on the economy/trade screen when they try to execute their PBEM turns?  Whenever I open the file and try to do trade, I repeatedly get the "microsoft orchestra strike" sound, a flipping mouse cursor, and much of the functionality of the screen disappears (for instance, the advisor's text indicating good and bad trades disappears).  This problem is repeatable and happens whenever I re-open the file to try to redo my turn.  I will post this problem in "tech support."

It just CTDed doing that. I have to admit, the first couple of turns I ignored this and just sent in my turn. But now that I have learned how to do an advanced economy, I can't ignore it.

barbarossa2 -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 8:25:36 PM)

Jesus. Lenin. You have SARS? :(

lenin -> RE: PBEM (3/25/2009 8:41:48 PM)

No, it's just really, really bad man flu that I haven't been able to shift for a couple of weeks now. I'll live.

P.S. You have an email.

IronWarrior -> RE: PBEM (3/26/2009 4:41:08 AM)

ditto on being glad to hear yer ok Franck... and hope you kick the bug soon lenin.

Mus -> RE: PBEM (3/26/2009 11:39:02 AM)

I think everyone I know is sick this week.  Im just thankful I finished my finals last week and dont start next quarter for another week.

Turkish turn is in.  Things are starting to get interesting, so I hope we can make a few faster turns going into the weekend.  Anyone have big plans and not going to be around?

Franck -> RE: PBEM (3/26/2009 2:35:52 PM)

Yeah I got the same thing as Lenin... It's so bad tough that I have been sleeping around 12-14 hours a day!

I'M starting to feel better tough.

I'll play my turn tonight.

barbarossa2 -> RE: PBEM (3/26/2009 2:48:14 PM)

Well I hope everyone gets better soon for the epic conflicts that await our divided Europe. :)

I took Sweden because I wanted a challenge! Looks like I will have one! :)

I'm the opposite - I can't sleep because my throat is like sandpaper, and my head is pounding to the sound of the guns.

Anyway, turn 6 in.

IronWarrior -> RE: PBEM (3/26/2009 8:31:42 PM)

France Turn 6 is in... the suspense is starting to make me feel ill too. [:D]

The question all Europe is asking. When and where will Bonaparte make his move.....?

barbarossa2 -> "house rule" (3/26/2009 11:18:32 PM)

I do not understand the "house rule" about attacking minor nations and having to control their capitols to control the nation.  Do I even understand this properly?

This prevents anyone from attacking any minor and waging an unsuccessful war, then sitting on the regions taken until resources permit the offensive to continue.

Can someone post a full rule, as if it were presented in a rule book for EiA?  I don't want any vague items which are open to debate.

If someone invades Denmark, I need to know what my lawyers need to show up in court with. :)

Two other players have not been able to answer my questions.

Thanks.

Mus -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 12:49:35 AM)

The rule was if you took a single province of a multiprovince protectorate from a player during a war without taking the capital you would cede it back to the player you took it from at the end of the war.  If you conquer the whole thing, you get to keep it.

I dont know that we applied it to AI Minors.  So it would depend if Denmark was your protectorate or not.

Franck -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 1:06:35 AM)

Mus as the right of it.

It's just that currently france could come donw in naples, take 2 province with me surrendering and then keeping the provinces. This is NOT how it's meant to work. if he wants to keep the provinces he should first take the capital of Naples. This way it simulate the fact that he forces Naples into a separate peace (and thus he can keep the conquered provinces).

It doesn't change anything with minors that are not protectorate. So if Danemark is not a protectorate you do as you feel :)

For those waiting for a war, me and France are in a war if you didn't know... Crazy bugger is hoping he can claim all of Italy under my nose! Doesn't he see they all like me better?

Franck -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 1:07:58 AM)

Turn sent

barbarossa2 -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 2:28:11 AM)

I have no problem with the house rule for now, but it would prevent the partition of Poland as it occurred historically.  And Poland is perhaps the most blatant example of the division of a large minor with more than 1 or 2 provences of the era.  I don't know that the rule makes sense from that perspective at all.  Because this kind of partition of Poland occured twice in the time frame of CoG:EE. Once in 1793 and once in 1795.  In 1793 it was divided between 3 (yes, three) neighboring powers who just marched in.

Here is the image...

And here is the story...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitions_of_Poland

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The rule wouldnt apply to an independent minor Poland. It could be divided up by 2-3 powers at their leisure.

The rule ONLY applies to protectorates.

Kingmaker -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 11:48:03 AM)

HiHi

Russias T6 orders sent in.

All the Best
Peter

Matto -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 2:20:32 PM)

I have all files except Sweden and Prussia ...

timurlain -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 6:21:06 PM)

Prussia's been away at a conference with a complicated internet access. Turn will be sent later this evening.

lenin -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 8:10:55 PM)

Take your time, Timurlain.

I'm now relatively free of the horrible East London virus (x2!)I caught and can now concentrate for more than ten minutes at a time.

Looks like the game is hotting up. Wars are breaking out and there is the requisite amount of paranoia!

Pbem is great. Shame there is no realistic way to fit detailed battles etc into the mechanics, but there are enough choices and options each turn to make your head spin. Can't beat real live opponents for all our strengths and frailties.

I only wish we had all opted for a longer game! Probably 1000 Glory will mean a relatively short game once a few nations are defeated and a few wars are fought to their conclusion. Still, hopefully we will mostly get together for re-matches.

As ever, looking forward to the new turn (whatever it may bring)

Lenin.

P.S. Might be out of action on Tuesday - have an engagement I really, really have to go to.

timurlain -> RE: "house rule" (3/27/2009 10:11:19 PM)

Prussia's turn is in.

I don't have to make as many complicated decisions as the English. I really like PBEM as it actually makes one think. Playing against the AI gets old bit too early (I tried Empire Total War and the AI is extremely dissapointing, otherwise it would be quite a nice game, although not realistic).
