I'll probably have difficulty getting off the Victory too.

OK, that makes it pretty cool. Do the guests actually sleep aboard?

On second thought, there probably aren't enough showers. [:D]

After a 3 hour cocktail party who will care?

After a 3 hour cocktail party there had better be some kind of "lavatory" or perhaps something more historically authentic.

A beautiful 6 foot long model of HMS Victory at the Sardine Factory in Monterey, Calif.

Got in a big fight with a guy who said it wasn't Victory because it wasn't "painted black and white". Idiot had the wrong date for Battle of Trafalgar and pronounced it TRA-fal-ger too. The sommelier who worked at the place for 38 years finally had to step in and confirm it was Victory.

I think Stalker Girl was impressed but she had at least 2 martinis by then.

Some kids are just so sophisticated and verbal that you have to check their birthdate to make sure they aren't "midgets".

Charming 3 year old girl who just had her 3rd birthday, in new dress just given to her by her mom, who despite being on Medicaid has surprisngly nice jewelry and clothes and dresses waaay too suggestively for a pediatric office: <3 year old tugging at her dress then makes a discovery> LOOK MOMMY MY BOOBS ARE POPPING OUT LIKE YOURS!

[:D]

The mom is mortified and turns about 8 shades of red. I need to say something to let her off the hook.

FAM: Well, at least she is learning her body parts.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: RIP??? (7/19/2014 1:15:48 AM)

*******Situation*********

Kyushu: Kanoya is crushed. The runway is 98% destroyed but at least we own it. We are sending help.
LRCAP from Fuk-u-jima.

Hokkaido: 2 AP's were sunk by the Vals which we discover are operating from Bihoro. There are 1700 WJD's at Bihoro. Quite weak..so we land tonight/tomorrow.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: RIP??? (7/19/2014 3:35:12 PM)

I told SG the story about the genius 3 year old.

She didn't think it was sweet or funny. In fact, she was jealous of the mother. <face palm>

Logically, one might ask why I would bring up such a story if there were anything to be jealous about? I am pretty sure women can't help themselves on this kind of thing. Some part of the rhinencephalon just commands them to patrol their territory.

The funny thing is it is probably the same brain structures that command men to try to encroach on neighboring territory.

Man in fine linen slacks: Oh yes they will, my doubting friend. What if you could buy a radio you didn't have to plug in for $8?

Hirsute man: You crazy SOB, half the town is burnt down!

Man in fine linen slacks: Opportunity, you crazy, naysaying SOB! Opportunity! You see a destroyed town. I see scrap metal. You see starving civilians. I see highly motivated employees.

Hirsute man: Milo, you crazy SOB, forget about the manufacturing, how are you going to sell the stuff? I'm telling you, Americans will not buy anything that says "Made in Japan"

Man in fine linen slacks: Yeah, I thought of that. That's why I picked this name. <He points to a large sign on the new assembly plant. As he does so he neon sign flickers to life>

Cap Mandrake -> RE: RIP??? (7/19/2014 4:56:59 PM)

Air losses from the 24th. We murdered the Vals flying from Bihoro although they did take down 2 laden transports.

Mouseover still shows 58 bombers at Bihoro. Maybe there are some emergency reinforcement aircraft after the capture of Kanoya?

When the sun comes up, JJ manages only 11 bomber sorties on the landing vessels. They are swatted away by P-38's on LRCAP from Shikuku and from F6F's with spill-over cap from the carriers one hex away.

Some B-25's from Shikuku and Shimushiri hit the airfield and TBF's from the carriers and a few A-24's from Shimi hit the ground defenders, Works pretty well.

Disablement on landing is pretty ghastly because we aren't prepped up to 50%. Evidently the 1013th Lifeguard Bn did not arrive either.

Mike McCreery -> RE: RIP??? (7/19/2014 6:48:31 PM)

41 damaged refers to the number of hits, not the number of planes so if you put a lot of little holes per plane there could be quite a bit fewer than 41.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: RIP??? (7/19/2014 6:51:34 PM)

Looks like an air HQ at Bihoro. After we dry out from the involuntary swimming, we should have at least one infantry unit that can attack tomorrow.

Didn't know that. I thought it was FOW that just plumped up the damaged aircraft. Even so, mouseover showed 58 bombers at the base last turn. In any event, it worked. No more transports lost.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: RIP??? (7/19/2014 6:58:06 PM)

Kyushu: Some staff flunkie sent 270 naval support troops to Kanoya via landing craft and....somehow...a Jap DD managed to sneak in past USS St Louis and 6 DD's

Adm. Nimitz, CIC, Operation Harbor Seal, the Allied invasion of Kyushu: Now, hold on son, when you say "contract" are you proposing the United States of America PAYS you to garrison SW Kyushu?

Mr. I. Dunn Cheatham, Esq. We prefer "invest". It sounds better back home.

Adm. Nimitz, CIC, Operation Harbor Seal, the Allied invasion of Kyushu: Why shouldn't I just detail 161st RCT to do it?

Mr. I. Dunn Cheatham, Esq. Fine unit, sir, but how many of them speak fluent Japanese?

Adm. Nimitz, CIC, Operation Harbor Seal, the Allied invasion of Kyushu: How many or your boys do?

Mr. I. Dunn Cheatham, Esq. All of them, sir.

Adm. Nimitz, CIC, Operation Harbor Seal, the Allied invasion of Kyushu: Santa Maria! Where on earth did you find 3000 fluent Japanese speakers?

Mr. I. Dunn Cheatham, Esq. <smiles broadly>

You know what has been bugging me for years?

Why are sleeper-sofas cheaper than regular sofas? Seems like you are getting 2 pieces of furniture.

Of course, the down side is your adult step-children might move in.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: RIP??? (7/20/2014 8:50:54 PM)

The lads at Bihoro. A bit fatigued but we attack today anyway. The armor is in good shape but 2 infantry regiments are at
39% fatigue and the third is still playing craps on the ships.

2 possible IJN surface groups are spotted at Hakodate in SW Hokkaido. They can reach the landing beaches. We are definitely short on surface protection. 4 x Bristol/Fetcher class DD's under Spruance at Bihoro.

Maryland is heading back for ammo. Indiana is heading back to Bihoro from Shikuku. She won't reach today.

The carrier bombers are on Naval/Ground Attack. The carriers will move NW by 40 miles to try to avoid any IJN surface groups.

There is a story that Sony built a town called Usa. So it could be said it was made in the Usa. It is known that Sony used to put made in Japan so small you couldn't actually read it. The regulations didn't say how big the lettering had to be.[&:]

On sleeper-sofas you get a re-used prison mattress in lieu of real cushioning. Don't worry, I'm sure they steamed out any
... umm .... stains.
