Q-Ball -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/20/2011 10:42:38 PM)

Really looking for the production summary screen, the one that would show your Manpower and Armament pool for Germans

I am interested to know if your Armament Pool is empty, or not

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/21/2011 12:10:24 AM)

Oh.

I never look at that. Maybe I should [:D]

Or maybe it would depress me!

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 9:30:52 PM)

Not sure if my AP situation is good or not. I seem to have points so I am guessing its not horrible. Just before 1st Blizzard I had set all my artillery TOEs to 50% I think that has helped.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 9:37:56 PM)

Top 35 or so infantry divisions. My infantry is still in very good shape. Constant rotating helps. I also keep a floating reserve of 9-15 infantry divisions resting and refitting.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 9:40:26 PM)

Armor is getting stronger every turn even with a rather steady stream of attacks on my part.

AGS with very deep fort lines and reserves resting and refitting.

39th Panzer corp fire brigade

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 9:55:30 PM)

24th Panzer corp fire brigade counter attack near Kharkov. Typical results showing a very good air ratio but I would like to see better ground ratios.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 9:58:21 PM)

41st panzer corp fire brigade attack also near Kharkov. Little better results. After attacking the Panzers then scoot back behind the fort line.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 10:08:05 PM)

Since snow began 76 has been slowly grinding forward in this area. He is almost through my level 4 forts. I tried out defending a lower level fort hex to see what I may be up against and to my amazement got a very good result. Now we patched and the 1-1 2-1 rule did not apply so I am optimistic that in 43 I may be able to slow down his stomp stacks of corps...

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 10:15:17 PM)

And here is the general area of his offensive. The rest of the front has not changed a bit. I am preparing a rather sizable force to either use offensively because the 1-1 rule is gone and I think I can hold pockets better or I may just save it for counter blows. Not sure yet gonna see how things develop.

And the OOB. Its depressing to watch him grow every turn!

PeeDeeAitch -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/24/2011 10:38:23 PM)

You are in great shape, actually. Given the CVs of your mobile units and infantry you can likely make some hash. Remember, he will make forts slower too, so when you pull back that "backhand blow" become a far more possible action (as I have learned in my game going into Feb 1943...)

This looks like it's not filtered to German production; even so, I am surprised how good shape you are in on this screen.

You have reserves in BOTH Manpower and Armaments. That means you should be able to REFIT any unit you want to. What is surprising is that you should be using up Armaments and Manpower until one pool is empty. In alot of games, the pool that empties is Armaments. It SHOULD be Manpower for the Axis, since that would reflect history. Having a surplus of both means you are either 100% topped out on all your units, or you don't have enough units on REFIT.

The Wehrmacht is in great shape in this one

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/25/2011 2:34:22 PM)

Thanks for the info Qball.

This part of the game is a bit of a mystery to me. I do however manage my refits on a turn by turn basis. When an infantry unit hits a certain CV level I turn refit off.

I wonder how much better I would be if the whole game was under 1.5 rules. My next Axis game will be interesting for sure.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/25/2011 4:53:23 PM)

Next turn 21 July 43.

He launched 4 attacks in the offensive area of operations. 1 retreat result. He had a huge number of planes go in the first attack. I was under the impression this would not happen with the 1.5 patch. I did have a lot of fighters intercept however. which is also perplexing...

I do agree entirely with the result. He hit the hex like a sledgehammer mainly because of the bomber support I am assuming because the initial ratio was even.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/25/2011 4:57:07 PM)

Hex 108,85 - 1-1 to 2-1 rule change saved the hex.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/25/2011 5:00:29 PM)

He then hit the hex again and it held a second time. This victory can be attributed to the first result not being a retreat. Overall I think if this type of result replaces the former retreats the game will wind up being more competitive.

Another hold thanks to rules change.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/25/2011 5:04:52 PM)

And the last hold that happened up north. This battle really shows that the Soviet will have to apply maximum force to remove a fortified Axis hex and not rely on "just enough" to get a 1-1. This should cut down on the overall number of Soviet attacks as well as keep the Axis army on the board longer from less retreats. More turns are needed to gather data but so far I like what I am seeing.

More later when I do the turn its football time!

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/28/2011 5:50:49 PM)

1-21-43

76 launched a major air base assault. He lost a lot of planes against my experienced air groups. Against my lesser units the ratios were more even.

Total losses his part of turn.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/28/2011 5:53:08 PM)

I launched several attacks this turn and got some nice ratios in the air and on the ground.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/28/2011 5:56:42 PM)

Ground losses. I am attacking where he is weak with fire brigades of Panzers. Its costing me some tanks but I have a lot in my pools. This will hopefully force him to stack more units along the front which will increase his attrition. I noticed his attrition go way up when he started stacking corps along the front. I also found these attacks give me a huge amount of air kills at extreme ratios in my favor.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (9/28/2011 6:00:32 PM)

As the winter trails off my heavy hitter SS divisions will start showing up and I will increase my infantry reserve by whatever comes in. During mud my Panzer force strength should skyrocket. I am fairly confident I will be able to launch an offensive of some type as well as continue to hold the line. I am figuring out how to build the fort lines to fall back too as he grinds forward.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (10/11/2011 3:21:46 PM)

Its March now and the snow is almost over. His offensive has ground out most of the level 4 forts in the Kharkov area but more forts are being built behind the first. They wont get to 4 but Ill take 2s and 2s. By mud he will be stopped with no real breakthrough.

In preparation for the summer there are some 15 Panzer/mech and 15 infantry divisions ready to react or attack.. Also with the last patch I put most of the front on static to cut back on attrition and built some 50 fortified areas at 50% toe. I have 500 APs in reserve.

The air war continues unabated but the overall kill ratio is still 8 or 9 to one in my favor. He has contined to attack my airfields but I have a lot of planes in my pools so it has not been an issue.

We discussed ending the game but decided to continue it as he feels eventually he will break through.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (10/13/2011 3:12:55 AM)

Turn 92 - Attrition losses - Last turn I put more then half the front on static mode and wow it made a difference. Static mode will be huge for the Axis now. I will be putting a lot more of the front in static mode this turn. Attrition losses were 30K plus on average before.

Ketza -> RE: Winter 1942 (10/13/2011 3:15:25 AM)

Replacements - 52k went to the front which is up from the average before. Static mode? Not sure.
