Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (1/31/2011 4:25:02 AM)

AGS - My original intention was to cross the river right at Kiev. However recon and probes showed Cherkassy to be guarded poorly. I decided to move 3 Panzer corps south to see what could be made of the situation. Once again I was able to find his weak spot and too my surprise capture Cherkassy and get over the river. I think in the next 2 turns his strategy of defending forward in the south will have to be abandoned. If not there will be some good pockets in the making.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (1/31/2011 4:28:23 AM)

In other news 11th army trudges on ahead sweeping individual divisions before it.

I am a bit ahead of schedule in the north and the south and right about where I expect to be in the center. In a few turns as things develop I will make the decision as to what to do next with the bulk of my Panzer divisions.

Klydon -> RE: Turn 6 (1/31/2011 4:42:16 AM)

Fantastic advance across the front for sure, especially in the south. His losses have been huge. I think Russians start with around 1200 T-34's, so you pretty much got them all. I have no idea what he is thinking going 3 deep stacks like that in very forward positions. Logistics are going to start playing a role in slowing things down unfortunately, but that is what happens. I wonder if you got to some spots fast enough that he didn't get some industry evacuated. I doubt it, but still.

Will be interesting to see if your opponent can recover from this or not.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/2/2011 8:56:43 PM)

Turn 8 AGN - Nice gains all along the Leningrad front. The extra commitment of Infantry and now 3rd PZ has made a hug difference. 8th Panzer leads the way as usual making it close to Leningrad burbs. 3 Pz makes a slight breakthough heading toward leningrad and 4th PZ gets across the river south of Lake Illmen. 16th and 18th army hug as many Soviet units as possible to try and restrict his movement.

The Soviet dam is springing a lot of leaks and there is plenty of good weather left. Hopes are running high of success on this front.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/2/2011 9:00:52 PM)

Turn 8 AGC - 9th army grinds forward to Veliky Luki. The Soviet front is being stretched thin here. 2nd and 4th army hammer away with deliberate attacks and make room for 2nd PZ to pocket 7 or so Soviet divisions. Vitebsk is cut off and the whole Dnepr river line collapses. In a few turns Oanzers from either AGS or AGN/3rd PZ will be back in a few turns to see what else can be done.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/2/2011 9:07:50 PM)

Turn 8 AGS - What was a small bridgehead has blossomed into a full blown jail break. Panzers run amuck in the rear of his solid line and infantry bust across the river south of Kiev as well. The Panzer corp north of Kiev is pulled out of the line to rest. A pocket cannot be completely formed but this leaves the Soviet a choice to either fight and keep the potential pocket from forming or flee the river line and abandon his forts.

With the success of crossing the river the next phase of operations is being considered including sending 3 Panzer corps North or a run at Kharkov.

11th Army grinds forward towards the Dnepr bend.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/2/2011 9:10:20 PM)

A large campaign was launched to kill Soviet transports within range. Overall it was a success and perhaps my opponent will move them out of range soon to hinder his partisan supply ops.

Ground losses turn 8

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/4/2011 8:27:17 PM)

Turn AGN -

Things are really heating up in this sector. 8th Panzer had gone a swamp too far and was attacked and routed back behind the lines. An attack was made against the 3rd Pz army spearhead but it was repulsed. The Soviets managed to piece together another line and all the swamps were stacked high with troops. The one weak spot was just over the Volkhov where one swamp hex had only a division in it and was easily taken.

The big news was the battle over a hex stacked 3 high just south of the 8ths old position. A 3 division deliberate attack broke the hex and through the hole one corps from 4th PZ and one reinforced corps from 3rd Pz burst through the hole to the sea. 1st Cav also burst through and a much stronger corridor was put in place cutting off Leningrad much more securely this time around. recon shows most of his army in the north now bottled up in Leningrad. Very few units are located east of the Volkhov from what can be gathered from recon.

South of the Lake the reinforced Corps of 4th Pzg had a hard go pushing him back several hexes. In one case a Soviet infantry division with no forts in light woods held up to 2 hasty attacks from an entire Pz Corp. This kept the southern part of his Volkhov line from being pocketed.

Overall it was another turn of progress on this front. The swamps are a bitch. I look forward to them getting fixed.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/4/2011 8:33:01 PM)

Turn 9 AGC -

I swear when I play as Soviets (badly I might add) I never seem to have as many divisions as the AI or my opponent. 9th, 4th and 2nd Pz grind forward. A pocket of some 7 divsions was finished off. Smolensk is reached and some 15 or so of his divsions are routed away out of level 2 and 3 forts. Vitebsk is finished off and 2 nore divisions surrender. This is a slow grinding attack that is preparing for the commitment of more Panzer divsions in a few turns but there is just an endless carpet of Soviet mediocre units in the way.

[image]http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/Aztek43/turn9agc.jpg[/image]

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/4/2011 8:38:35 PM)

AGS - A pocket is formed along the river of some 8 or so divisions and the bridgehead over the river is expanded and consolidated. Strong elements of 6th, 17th and all of 1st Pzg areacross the river with several Panzer divisions resting.

In front of me he is forming what seems to be a checkerboard defence that I am content with gobbling up divsions as I push outwards.

If I strike north I am sure I can pocket 10 or 15 divisions but heading east or south promises more large cities. I am still contemplating the next move.

11th army and the Rumanians continue the eastward grind taking Kirovgrad.

Losses turn 9 - Almost to the 2 million mark for Soviet casualties.

paullus99 -> RE: Turn 6 (2/4/2011 9:48:57 PM)

Good work - he better pull back into Leningrad ASAP, because he's in a world of trouble with those forward deployed troops.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/7/2011 6:36:43 PM)

I havent heard from my opponent in quite awhile. Not sure if the game is still going.

LOL [:D] nm I just got the turn in. On with the war.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/8/2011 2:49:09 PM)

AGN turn 10 -

His part of the turn he launched several major counterattacks that all failed. He also launched major assaults on my airfields and suffered huge air losses.

My part of the turn the Volkhov front broke wide open with Panzers reaching deep behind his lines and cutting the Tikvhin railline as well as capturing one of the Ladoga ports. 8th Panzer is once again hung out to dry but the interdiction of the rails was deemed important enough to do it.

He pulled back across the front and 3rd panzer had to give up a hex to use mps for exploitation to ports at the head of the Volkhov. One pocket and a few "sorta" pockets were formed.

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/8/2011 2:50:42 PM)

2nd, 4th and 2PG push forward. Pocket is formming around Smolensk and 2nd PZ blasted ahuge hole in his line.

[image]http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/Aztek43/turn10agc.jpg[/image]

Ketza -> RE: Turn 6 (2/8/2011 2:54:01 PM)

AGS - His defence was stiffening to the north towards Gomel with a large checkerboard in place. The call was made to head towards Kharkov after recon and much ground was gained. A pocket of 8 divisions was eliminated by the Hungarians and Italians.

The front here is very fluid atm and there is a lot of options available for future operations.

Klydon -> RE: Turn 6 (2/8/2011 6:43:27 PM)

That is just a monsterous pile of Russians by Leningrad. If you can ever get them isolated so they start surrendering, it is going to be a huge haul of Russian manpower right off the table.

Ketza -> Tihkvin falls! (2/14/2011 4:19:08 AM)

Slow turns but the game continues.

AGN turn 11 -

Lots to report. Tikvhin falls hopefully cutting off supplies to leningrad. All of the ports on Lake Lodoga except the one inside the Leningrad perimeter are taken. The plucky 8th Panzer links up with the Finns.

These developments will hopefully be the deathnell of Leningrad. I plan on solidifying the noose around the city and begin crushing the large pocket that has developed over the next few turns. I will push out a bit with the Finns if possible and then switch over to building winter quarters. Most likley the next turn will see some Panzers pulled from the line especially 8th Panzer that has been the tip of the spear for the whole Leningrad campaign. How many times it was surrounded and rescued I cant even recall. It was essentially supplied from the air the whole time in some cases having 250 tons of fuel a turn dropped on it. Swamps were much easier this time around.

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/14/2011 4:24:50 AM)

AGC turn 11 - Smolensk is cut off and a 3 division pocket created. he abandons Velikye Luki to 9th army. He trys to skirt a division along the swamps to get in 4th armies rear but a newly arrived divsion from Germany shows up in the nick of time. Most of 2nd PG reorients to the south side of the bulge pointing towards Bryansk to position themselves for a run at linking up with AGS.

[image]http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/Aztek43/turn11agc.jpg[/image]

There is the potential brewing for a large pocket to be formed east of the marsh as 1st PG has captured Kharkov and 1 PZ corp soaks up supplies for a big rush either north towards AGC or South to black sea. Depening on what he does on defence...

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/14/2011 4:27:37 AM)

AGS - Kharkov falls and his front is severly disrupted. 11th army slogs forward.

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/14/2011 4:28:39 AM)

Losses - Hopefully after leningrad is finished off we will hit 3 million Soviet losses:

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/14/2011 4:35:39 AM)

Looking for some comments on the supply situation for the Soviets in leningrad. I am pretty sure its going to be very bad but quite frankly I am still wondering....

Senno -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/14/2011 4:40:05 AM)

You have them isolated. So should fall this turn with your attacks without to much problem.

Nice job with the isolation.[:)]

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/25/2011 12:53:49 AM)

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/25/2011 1:30:26 AM)

Turn 13 AGN -

3rd panzer is withdrawn from the area and 4th Pz begins to pull out from the line. Finns are leaking south and prep begins for the blizzard line. 18th army will completely leave the area once leningrad is reduced. many Soviet divisions surrender this turn in the area of the large pocket. He continues to apply pressure to 16th army evem launching a failed attack in the 4th Pz sector.

[image]http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/Aztek43/turn13agn.jpg[/image]

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/25/2011 1:33:16 AM)

AGS - small pocket created by 9th army. Local attackes rout several Soviet divisions. Nothern half of pocket being reduced by 4th army. 2 new panzer divisions join 2nd Pz and prepare for the next pocket attempt.

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/25/2011 1:35:57 AM)

AGS - Small pockets formed and progress made against the large pocket in center using 6th and 17th armies. 1st Pz begins to reform for next push.

Ketza -> RE: Tihkvin falls! (2/25/2011 1:37:17 AM)

Soviet losses are brutal this turn and the tally finally goes over 3 million.
