There is an additional column showing the TOE delay time as I find it hard to know when TOE will upgrade without having to look through each unit.

That's another very sweet little change!

Will this do ... Notice the bottom line of box.

That is a great addition.

Never underestimate the power of these "little" tweaks to improve and ease playing the game. They all add up.

(If only you would add fields for XP, Morale, Fatigue & Disruption in the (toggled) Ground Units screen displays. Pretty please!)

Already done.

Michael,

Ah, I think all these new features need a LOT of public beta testing.  I think you should issue the "k8" beta today!

BigDuke66 -> RE: Patch 06 - Public Beta - Build 1108k7 (4/9/2011 8:12:51 PM)

Oh yea gets better and better!

Any chance we could change the marking(#) for the flag ship in the TF screen against something else and instead use the # for ships that are scheduled to withdraw?(just like the # is used on air groups)

Also could LCUs that can be combined/recombined into bigger units get a symbol at the end of there name? Maybe a *.

I still would like to someday see the ability to hover my mouse over conflicted hex and see the numerical strengths of my own units in a hex, at a glance.Of course I can get this info by opening the unit screens and in the op reports, but this feature would sure come in handy when dealing with a line of conflicted hexes grouped near one another.

Will this do.
I was having difficulty in seeing how many CD guns where in hex due to many LCUs.

Where is the exe file after the patch is installed. What I have right now shows version k5 with a 4/10/11 build date when I start the game. That doesn't sound right does it? Shouldn't it reflect k7?[&:]

Buck,

The install process of the Beta puts it in a sub-folder and (here's the critical piece) it creates a separate shortcut to use the Beta. Michael did that so people could choose to run the official patch they have installed, or choose the Beta. In your WITP-AE folder, look for the folder "Beta2". In there is where it gets installed. The separate shortcut goes on your desktop.

If you want to create your own short cut, just copy your 'normal' shortcut, then change the copy to put to the Beta2 folder to find the .exe file. Do not change the "Start In" line.

When I try and run the patch from the Beta2 file I get an Error message that the PW data can't be found.

Buck

Note that the short cut file date is 3/28/11.

Every time this has happened to me it's because I've been launching off the wrong shortcut. The last Beta I'm running has a shortcut labeled "Beta2 Special", but it isn't the current beta (the K maybe?) Michaelm has been pretty good about making the new shortcut names unique, but my PC, due to the way I have icon arranging set, always puts anything new in the same little part of the screen, and the icon is the same picture for every AE shortcut. I've saved the old beta shortcuts just because, and once in awhile I'm only half looking when I lainch and I get the worng one, followed by the PW data error you name.

Double check the shortcut properties. If you have to, reinstall the beta patch and find the new shortcut again.

That is normal, run the game through the new shortcut named War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition (Beta8 Special)

Do not forget to add the parameters from the old shortcut

I'll try again. Shouldn't I be able to run through the exe file without using the shortcut, however both ways have given me the Error Message.

I tried something else also. I copy pasted the two K7 files into the main WITPAE folder. I then backed up the previous pwdata file and ran the game using the k7 exe provided. This then is what produced a game with the K5 discribed file with the 4/10/11 date. Talk about confusing me.

Nikel, what Beta8 ???

witpqs -> RE: Patch 06 - Public Beta - Build 1108k7 (4/10/2011 10:06:07 PM)

Buck,

When he says Beta8 that's just what the name of the shortcut is. Actually the name of the shortcut doesn't really matter as log as it points to the right place.

First of all, though, you should not need to mess around with pwhex files or anything else. This Beta is the exe only. So let's take it from the top. You run the Beta installation routine. It will create a shortcut. The shortcut will probably have Beta8 in the name as the gentleman said, but that doesn't matter as long as you use the shortcut that the installation process just created.

Just FYI - no action required on your part - the installation process will create a folder called Beta2. That folder will be in your main WITP-AE folder. See screen shot attached to this post. You do not need to do anything with it because the shortcut that was created by the installation process points to it. They did it this way so that it will not interfere with whatever official patch you have loaded.

If you still have trouble, PM me and we will get it sorted out.

You should do what witpqs said. Every shortcut for me has had a unique name, with Beta in it. I have tried to launch from inside the folder directly by clicking on the EXE, but it does not work.I don't know why; probably releated to the PW file. Way back on the first beta I tried to move files and neaten things up and it did not work. Just do as the inslaller tells you to. Install it, leave the folders alone, and launch from the new shortcut.

But it is dragging on a bit, so I am deferring the manual until we finishing "finding bugs"

Strangeish problem.

I run the install and it creates a folder called Beta2 within the main AE directory. It does NOT create a shortcut. That's fine though, i can create that myself. For testing though I just double click on the Executable in Beta2.

When I do that the game crashes and states "Error: Unable to find PW Data."

BTw the Beta2 directory contains the executable and pwsdll.dll

That's it. So, what am I missing?

Create the shortcut so that it points to the Beta executable, but the other line in the shortcut points to the usual (non-Beta) folder. I think that other line is called "Start In" and basically gets passed to the executable in effect telling it "This is where you are", so programs that need to find files in "their own" folder will know where to look. Make sense?
