A bunch of small strikes come in after the main events, and they go for some small ships including minelayers here, which were missed after the strike was decimated. The LR CAP was anemic today. I truly hope it is working tomorrow if the Allies come closer. I have a few very god ships left here! This DD was lost after hitting a mine, which is too bad as it could have made it. Still, worth the price for these kind of bombardments. 3 June 1945 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SUBS: Two more confirmed sunk. One hit hard, three more at least damaged and a bunch more air HIT messages. There are only 20 or so left around Moppo from something like 50-70 a month ago. [8D] KOREA: The IJA moves forward from Gunzan and the Allies react by moving armor into the path on the hex that we need to move from to close the door on the Marines in Masan. So, now the games begin. I can't move down the West coast as the Iowas would have quite a lot of fun with that. So I'll continue through the center and engage the Allied force while attempting to bombard by sea. No bombing just yet in case he moves up in rage of LBA. I don't want to confuse my escorts again. Now. Since it certainly looks like there are not many forces at Moppo, I think a surprise is in order. I'll transport any and every para-unit I can back to Kyushu and get them prepping. I'll start a prep for some brigades as well, but an invasion will be tough to orchestrate and might not do much anyway, since the armor can move back quickly. So the paras can at least determine how bad things are at Moppo, I hope. The So Pac command is there, though, so that will not fall easily with any combat support. I'll go through the units I know are there and post soon. STRAT BOMBING: Another hit. The Ki-83 at Hamamatsu down to 9 (21). I have 260 Ki-83 in the pools, so enough for a few months at current usage, and still there are 39 factories unharmed. The Shindens are only at 30. Five have now been made. I will immediately put them into a 9 plane group when I have enough. [:)] HOME ISLANDS: More jockeying now. That strike killed the Oscar group at Hamamatsu, which is actually quite good with a number of 70-80 exp pilots, but just the airframes. I'm going to upgrade them to Frank 'r.' To do that I'll have to switch out another good group, and get more defenses in the area in general. Also, I have to now put a massive CAP on Hiroshima and Yokohama. I've decided to place the CVs there as the flak is BIG, and the bases are strong with lots of fighters already. Fingers crossed. CHINA: More bombing. The 1200AV army is moving back to the MLF in good terrain a few hexes frame Shanghai. Some of the subs made contact, one getting a sight of the amphib TF, which does look to be reinforcements, not an invasion, as it's not all APA/AKA. Lost the I-106 though. The main action today is that sweeps just nail the CAP, again without the LR CAP from Nagasaki which showed Heavy Rains after the turn. That left our best 500 fighters out of the combats, and it showed with the Allies getting just over 3:1 on the day. Still, our pilots didn't fare as badly, and if tomorrow the Nagasaki planes fly it'll be a different picture. I also reset some of the Moppo sweepers to fly heavy CAP over Korea just in case. We see the fleet a bit better. more heading for them tomorrow, and the I-202 still hovering out there after surviving three separate encounters with Allied escorts and surviving with very minimal damage! [8D] KOREA: Sweeps hit all over South Korea. I changed up the settings here so in case tomorrow has bombers flying in after, the sweeps and strikes should be met more effectively. Very few sweeps at Moppo, so if the fleet moves in it'll be tough to hit them without the previous heavy LR CAP and sweeps to clear the way. Always tough decisions! Sub scouting gives some insight to Allied fleet composition. It's not an invasion judging by ship types, so that is good info to have. I can leave all fighters and strike planes at Changchun stood down repairing and bringing morale up again. That is my default location for wrecked groups from Fusan that need some time getting up to speed again. The theory is that this leaves Fusan in better more regular supply. This turn however it went down by 8k as the troops got a big dose. That's good in one way, bad in another. Our 2E torp planes are likely now flying sans torps! I reset them to 1k to low naval bomb if they don't get them tomorrow. Sucks, but that might work well against soft targets if the reinforcements do go into Moppo. Another 10k supply supply drop no its way two days out. STRAT BOMBING: Thankfully on more hits today. Interesting there have been NO night strikes on the Home Islands for a good while. The fires at Osaka are nearly out now. Around 14k still, and more airframe factories, resources, shipyards and other stuff burned, but 'only' 100 each of HI/LI so far. Must have been 800-100 mines here from one B-29 drop! At 115 a month and after three drops like that in the last month he has to be out of them soon, right? Right? Unfortuantely, in spite of about 500 2E (T), DB and TB in range and set to strike, only a few more went for the BBs with no more hits, and most just sat at the fields. [:-] A few also went for damaged DDs moving through Moppo! [sm=Christo_pull_hair.gif] A golden opportunity missed. The supply at Fusan had emptied and gone somewhere else, down to 15k, putting the base in the red and taking all of the TT away from the 300 planes set to use them, but none of the other bases flew either.
