Yeah, going in that low you pay a price, but this time it was worth it! Wish some of the other planes had got in on the act, but I think I have it worked out now. The supply there was really constant, and then I moved some troops. Sucked it right out. So good for the troops, bad timing for the strikes. more supply on the way, just not there when I needed it. The LBA on Honshu though had no excuses. I had escorts and kamis set for the distance to the Moppo hex from 4 other bases that all had sufficient supply, especially for the kamis and DBs. I sent all extraneous groups away and hopefully it'll confuse the game less and something will now fly. Those guys were right in my wheelhouse!!! Should have been not only a grand slam, but upper deck. Instead it was a broken bat single, but at least still scored a run. [:)]

Hi obvert, great AAR. As far as I remember there are some rules connected with base supply level and number of aircraft able to fly during the turn. Maybe that's the reason they are not flying? How many supply and fuel You have in the HI? Sorry for my English ART

Trouble is on the Home Islands it's tough to figure out what is going where. Many bases produce their own supply plus some make a surplus and that moves across the island (s). I've reduced numbers at key bases several times, but often this movement will occur during the turn as and the supply situation will change when it might be needed. I've kept base supply toggles low, around 1-3k on all bases and just let the supply move around. I think this is still the best way to let the game use it as needed, but sometimes it doesn't get to the right place quickly enough. How much supply do I have? Back a page or two there is an economic round-up that should show what is here now. It's not a lot, but it's amazing how the planes keep flying (for the most part) so far.

KOREA: All armies are reaching their preliminary destinations. It looks like some Allied forces are moving into Masan. That would be a good thing. I'll eventually move forward, but I also want to see if this provokes a big response from Jocke to bring the reinforcements in. The port at Moppo should be pretty damaged, so even an Allied night drop might not finish until later in the day phase or day two. That would give time to do something about it. STRAT BOMBING: Osaka lost some more LI during the night and some aircraft factory points. REPORT: Fires causing damage to H8K2 Emily factory at Osaka/Kyoto! Fires causing damage to Light Industry at Osaka/Kyoto! Fires causing damage to Ki-45 KAId Nick factory at Osaka/Kyoto! HOME ISLANDS: Supply is all over the place from base to base, and likely that is part of why strikes didn't fly. Still, there are planes in bases with supply that isn't go either, so that's not the whole story. I wish I knew the whole story, but I sadly don't. Must have had some weather issues, as some of the planes in easy reach are still sitting happily at 99 morale, 0 fatigue, with good supply. More mine clearing. Sigh. We'll see if tomorrow brings any bright spots. Jocke will have an interesting choice in where to send the Iowas. I've got 4 subs West of Moppo and a few MTBs and midget subs South of it, so either way something will be there. A few 800kg bombs might have added to the misery there nicely. This is a base in good supply, in range of several HQs, with escorts and the group is rested and with high morale. There are a few more like this scattered at smaller bases just for the reason that I could have supply shifts around the HI and I want to make sure something goes. Maybe it was weather over these other bases, or over the hex with BBs in the afternoon. The DL was certainly high, so it's all I can think of for why nothing else flew. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Would the fact the air unit posted above has no aircraft assigned to search have any bearing? I've found in the past that sometimes it's not enough to rely on DL from other sources, but that an inherent search capability from the LBA unit itself gets a strike airborne.

So with everything tweaked as well as I can get it working at this point, we go forward again. Jocke must be a bit flustered by this. his tone makes it sound like the ships must have significant damage, which is good. I don't remember him sending me an unfinished turn for a long while. I set the Kyushu groups a bit farther out, so they might run into CAP. I set a few very minor surprises that probably won't do much if anything. One Frances group is on night strike with TT, and it's able to search at night as well, so we'll see if that does anything. I also set one Peggy groups to bomb Amami-Oshima just for fun, as I'm sure it'll have most fighters sweeping or LR CAPing the BBs coming in. Or maybe I lose 20 bombers. The subs to the West of Moppo couldn't have been in a better spot, so I'm hoping one gets lucky. MTBs will move into the hex immediately in the night, and it's low moon, so you never know. There are torps in the HQ, but the supply dips to 15k, so the planes don't fly? Yet at another base with 15k supply that is farther form the target they do fly? I think this is one of the most critical aspects of your situation. The problem is that your picture on supply is always incomplete and out of date. The reason is because the supply movement phase happens before you can access the save, so you will not receive any information about the situation before the supply phase. So during the turn a few percent up/down can mean the difference between a closed base and successful mission. Probably not much you can do there except adapt your expectations accordingly.

I've never liked the 3x aspect to supply and I wouldn't be surprised if this was contributing to the problem.

[:D] I personally think it's s*** to have to lower expectations that a bunch of planes in the same well supported well supplied, well-led airbase should not fly, should fly all over the place except at the biggest threat 2-3 hexes away or that certain missions fly to a target and others won't. in the war there were some missions that were just too important not to go. What if Halsey had said to Jimmie Doolittle, ah, I guess we've been sighted, it's a little rough today, maybe lets not do this and head back?

Well, as usual when faced with tough circumstances, Jocke goes for it. If I'd made the choice to hit the Iowas with the IJN I would have run into several DD, CL/DD and PT TFs on the way, plus the Iowas themselves. Would've been fun to watch, but I'm glad I played my hunch and held back. As usual, subs began the turn, with mine getting nailed by the Allied DDs. I-202's luck runs out! This TF would have really screwed up the old BBs if they'd been sent out. There is so much good stuff on the Allied side!!! Amazing this has all been just sailing around up North while I had fun nuking Moppo for a week or two. One TF like this would have put a stop to that.
