pretty good showing there. How bad is Pennsylvania hit?

Not too bad. She's structurally sound and her engines are intact, but a lot of her secondary battery and AA guns are gone.

BTW, I counted SEVEN torpedo hits, but only 2 of the Mk 15s actually bothered exploding.

I'd like to tell you all how well Alex played at tryouts this weekend, and how proud we are of him. Unfortunately, he didn't get a callback for the usual reasons, and I'm pissed at myself for forgetting my rule and getting my hopes up as I watched him play, when I know better. [:@]

AA tryouts in a little over 3 weeks. [:(]

I'll give you a pat on the back. Amazing how few hits were scored by the Japanese.

Even with AA his skills will continue to improve and move up.

This is true, but the number of US hits was skewed by the larger number of tubes firing. Also, the very first hit on the Yamato destroyed one of her main battery turrets, and the Haruna didn't seem to shoot very much.

Leo "Apollo11"

This was the top level of tryouts, Leo, AAA. Next, he'll try out for AA, then A, then B, if needed, until he makes a team or does not make any of them. He will play in a local, non-travel, "house" league next season if he doesn't make one of these teams.

The kids are beyond the point where I can offer them anything as a coach. I never played myself, so all the kids can teach and coach me. [:D]

No chance for the AAA team. They posted the list online for callbacks and the final tryouts. I would love if he could make the AA team, but he is having to struggle against preconceived notions about who the best 2 goalies are, and who the next best two (AA) will be, etc. There is no room in their minds to openly consider a kid who didn't even make it onto a A level team last season actually being competitive with the AAA goalies, much less outplaying all of them most of the weekend. We'll see....

I must admit I'm suprised at the level interest in hockey in North Carolina. Sounds a lot like up in these parts. If he doesn't make double AA, Thief River Falls is always in need of players. We have some families that sent their high schools kids to other high schools to play for better coached teams. around here usually to International Falls when Dean Blais coached at the high school level before returning to college hockey.

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (5/7/2012 4:24:43 PM)

Schani, the interest really took off when the Canes made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002, and then came into full bloom when they won the Cup in 2006. Throw in all of the relocated Northerners who have moved here and brought their hockey interest, and there is an entire generation of kids growing up around here to whom playing hockey and attending Canes games is normal. This is solidly a hockey town now. [8D]

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (5/7/2012 4:25:22 PM)
