Itdepends -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/9/2014 4:30:40 AM)

Hello Michael,
was there a change made in the Beta that removed the ability to switch between 1 and 2 day turns? I've done it once in my PBEM but the question came up recently and my opponent can't recall how we did it. I've also been unsuccessful at doing it in a test PBEM.

Thanks,

Daniel

alanschu -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/10/2014 3:10:46 AM)

Any reason NOT to get this? I'm under the impression that it works mid campaign to boot?

spence -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/10/2014 11:28:22 PM)

Is there any reason why I am unable to load saves on a reinstall of version "r" on a new computer (which we were using for my PBEM on my recently deceased laptop)?

When I try running the Beta as administrator I get a can't locate pwhex.dll file or some such (if that helps).

If we were to just got to version 'v' would my opp have to make his move again using that version?

The option is a command line switch (-cd) that the Japanese player needs to run. The turn can be loaded and the 'Turn cycle' is allowed to be changed .. thru the in-game preferences.

pwhexe.dat missing?
This lies in the main AE game directory. Your shortcut should have this directory as the 'target' or 'start in ..'

spence -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/10/2014 11:58:21 PM)

Actually running as administrator in compatibility mode (windows 7) is says "Unable to find PW data"

michaelm75au -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/11/2014 12:03:50 AM)

Are trying to run from the beta?
Silly me you said you are.
You can't right click on the EXE and run as Admin.. Doing this tries to start the game in the Beta directory.
Options are:
1. Copy Beta exe over to your main AE directory and replace the existing EXE - downside is you can't play non-beta games.
2. Create a short cut from the beta (one should already exist on your desktop if you have installed the beta and is ready to run) and modify to start in the main AE directory.

spence -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/11/2014 12:33:36 AM)

I'm confused and not very literate with computers. There are two exe files in the Beta folder: the little one (116KB called witploadAE) sorta flashes and then goes away when I click on it: problem here? The big one 4 Mb opens the program but doesn't load the saves.

I already have a shortcut that I got when I installed the Beta. Opens the program but doesn't allow loading of saves.

The witploadAE is for editing scenario files only.
Try running the beta shortcut as Admin

Hate to say it but I did that: No Joy.

michaelm75au -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/11/2014 1:18:05 AM)

Can you show me your beta short cut as shown here?

michaelm75au -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/11/2014 1:20:51 AM)

And your game directory

michaelm75au -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/11/2014 1:48:17 AM)

I expect the 'Start in' from shortcut to be your game directory.

Here are my directory and the shortcut properties. The only thing changed from the install is the -w extension but it wouldn't load the saves when the -w was there.

The comment on the shortcut properties is different than what you show but that wouldn't seem to make a difference would it?

I tried loading some scenarios in the Beta and they worked fine.

michaelm75au -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/12/2014 3:28:27 AM)

Silly question but you have copied the saves to "..Edition\Save".
Also when using the beta and you select 'load save', it shows the path of the save directory under the list.

spence -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/12/2014 9:52:04 PM)

Problem solved

alanschu -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/13/2014 7:03:50 AM)

I had never noticed this before, so it may not necessarily be related, but I am noticing that the AI seems particularly gung ho on sending carriers into the the same hex as a base it wishes to bomb.

It spent several days (3 or 4, until I showed up with some carriers of my own to bomb them) in the same hex as Lunga, and now there's another ACTF in the same hex as Koepang. It's been there for two days now (Aug 13, 1942) so I'll keep track of how long it stays there. But I am under the impression that carriers operate at a penalty if they are in a coastal hex, do they not?

bush -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/13/2014 6:47:52 PM)

Michael,

If I install the latest beta, are ALL the updates/fixes included?

Thanks,

Mike

BigDuke66 -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/13/2014 7:35:31 PM)

AFAIK you have to install the latest Patch and over that you can install this beta.

bush -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/13/2014 9:52:27 PM)

BigDuke66,

Okay, that makes sense. So first I install the last official patch (where exactly do I get that, BTW?), then I put in the latest beta.

Thanks,

Mike

Quixote -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/13/2014 10:01:12 PM)

Latest official patch can be downloaded from the Members area (there's a link at the top of the forum screen.)

bush -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/13/2014 11:08:27 PM)

I can't get into the members section. I keep getting the message that my log-in or password are in error - yet I can sign in to the forums. Do I need to register a different set of codes for that section?

Thanks,

Mike

witpqs -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/14/2014 3:45:40 AM)

Yes. Even if you use the same use name they will give you a different password! At least they did for me.

alanschu -> RE: Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1123v update (1/14/2014 5:47:15 AM)

Yeah I had to do the same thing. Just had to get them to email my password and I was good to go.

So it's August 25th, and the Koepang fleet is still there, and a new ACTF has arrived off the coast of Lunga again.... I think there's two carriers in this fleet, as well as several other capital ships....

Has anyone else ever seen something like this?

EDIT: It should be noted that I didn't start the game with this EXE

Sorry for all the basic tech-related questions. When I go to the members section the only download I see is for a planning map, not the actual latest patch. What am I missing?

Thanks again to all for holding my hand.

May I put forward a nice idea from a fellow forumite regarding spoilage messages: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3516647

quote:

ORIGINAL: Yaab

Would be nice to see some messages about spoilage during turn's resoultion i.e

340 supplies lost to inadequate storage at Terapo

150 supplies appropriated by rear-echelon at Milne Bay

200 supplies lost in surf action at Kusaie Island

250 fuel lost to leakage at Taongi

Login to members section. On the "Members Club" page, scroll down the game list to "War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition" and click on the game name - not on "[Registered]". On the page of "War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition", click on "Downloads" and you will see the links to the official patch.

You can also go directly to the downloads section without login on the "Members Club": http://www.matrixgames.com/products/351/downloads/

Or even easier - direct link: ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/WarInThePacifc-AdmiralsEdition/WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v1108r9.exe
