Desperate ground support from the fleet.
One bomber will make it through.

And that's it....

Tokyo falls to the combined action of Eisenhower offensive, helped by the strong fleet guns support, and a succesfull paradrop.

The defense provided by the Japanese fleet fails to change the result.

With Tokyo in the hands of the allies, only Berlin remains to warrant an immediate allied victory.

But Berlin looks too strongly held, at least for now, to imagine it could fall this turn.
But who knows ? At the end of the previous turn, it did not look like it would take but two impulses to capture Tokyo!

But the attack on Nagoya was somewhat optimitic.
I had just forgotten that the British unit would not attack with the Brezilian one...

yvesp -> RE: Global War Solitaire (1/1/2014 5:29:19 PM)

Axis powers have nothing compelling to do.
The best that could be done would be to recover the Synth oil for the Japanese; but is it worth the 20% chance of end of turn ?

No luck: the roll is 3.

Germany at the start of the 4th allied impulse in May 45.

Russia takes an air impulse: it wants most of its bombers near Berlin, and will see if it can do a carpet bombing there.

The British take a land move: they have little else to do: most of their airplanes are disorganized.

The USA takes a combined with an offensive chit. Its not that they really need it, but its confortable and they really can afford it. And they still have transports to move around. Unlike the Britsh, they still have a few reserves left.

Russians try too to carpet bombe Berlin.

yvesp -> RE: Global War Solitaire (1/1/2014 9:05:47 PM)

Germany in July 45.

It will be difficult to survive through the turn, although it seems not impossible.
Luck will have its say...
In any case,it did not have enough room to accomodate all reinforcements!

USA begin with a combined and an offensive. As usual, it will use one offensive each impulse with it reserve of seven offesnives...
USSR does the same ; it has a reserve of four offensives, more than enough for the turn.
Commonwealth does a air impulse ; it only has two offensives in store and doesn't want to rashly use them.

There is an agreement between Russia and Great Britain that the first to eliminate a land unit in Berlin through carpet bombing will have a priority on the following land attack. Once only. Rinse and repeat. Otherwise, the best wins!

There also is an agreement between Russia and the USA that Munich will be in the US sphere of influence.

yvesp -> RE: Global War Solitaire (1/1/2014 9:11:23 PM)

Japan at the start of the July 45 allied impulse, alies who have the initiative.

It will be difficult for Japan not to be at least partially conquered.
Sapporo is virtualy captured, and only four cities remain, only one being "correctly" defended.
Considering that the USA captured four cities in the previous turn, the odds are not good.
And the fleet being stuck in the Japanese sea will be of no help this time!

However, unlike Germnay, Japan could man three more fighter squadron from its reserves.

Over Osaka, some carrier planes that found some oil in an hidden cache try to interfer with a carpet bombing run by Britain. It fails.

yvesp -> RE: Global War Solitaire (1/1/2014 9:39:31 PM)

However, in Berlin, the British succeed.

The Russians did agree to let the British run first. After all, they had been longer in the war and had really carried their part of the combat in Germany.
