Now in T65 the railhead is getting closer and closer to the East edge. That means there will eventually be one-day non-stop service
from Reggio to the East edge way up north. That's a first for me. I didn't know that was possible. Cool.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/21/2014 11:27:59 PM)

Here's the T66 front lines. I'm running out of German targets. The West side is way north of the lattitude of the East side. But the
supply rail is inching closer to the East side so we should see some progress in about 10 turns or so.

Here's the supply situation at the West edge along the coastal road, etc.

Here's a view of the Rome area in T67. That group of units that was doing mop up in the middle have arrived at Rome and most of
them are resting, refitting, refueling, getting ready to go out again. I'm trying to remember to send the American units along the coastal
road and the British, etc. what ever is left over, to the non-coastal roads and toward the middle. Things are jumping and moving and
the situation is dynamic.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 12:19:10 AM)

Here's a view of the East side in T67. I'm arriving at the middle almost at the same time I'm getting there on the East coast and that's a
good thing. If we had a good supply level we could really accellerate this whole process. During the German turn I see lots of traffic
headed south from the more northern parts of Italy. I guess these are German units arriving from Germany or France or something.

Here's the T68 front lines. I'm depicting on the map how the various groups of units should move in the future. I'm playing it by ear and
so far this seems best for the near term. So far so good.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 5:33:02 AM)

Here's a view of the East side in T70. I'm flowing like water into every unconverted hex except mountainous and searching and
destroying all the Germans as I find them. Supply is better so life is good again.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 6:04:57 AM)

I'm getting close to the Gothic Line on the West side.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 8:11:46 AM)

Here's the T72 front lines. I'm still pressing north everywhere. The West side seems a bit thin to me. I've got to drive some troops
into that area.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 8:21:34 AM)

I knew this was going to happen. I've run into a monster Panzer unit and it's threatening to open my front lines wide open. I've directed
a lot of planes to attack that bad boy so as to weaken him a little bit. I'll have to hit him by air several times I bet.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/F5A0C7F7E67F447884FB48C3D77BF4F3.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 10:26:01 AM)

OK. That monster Panzer unit has stayed where he is for a full turn now. I hit him twice last turn w/ manual CS missions and I'm going to
hit him twice this turn and maybe that will discourage any attacking anytime soon. Meanwhile, as soon as enough troops reach this area
I'm going to have to go around the Arno River and that means I'll need to sack Florence. It's in the path of my advance so it has to be
taken.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 11:35:44 PM)

Here's the T75 front lines. We've run into opposition and the advance has halted at the Arno river on the West side and the East side
is still pressing north. The middle is moderately muddled.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/22/2014 11:47:40 PM)

Here's a zoom in on the T75 front lines. I'm in some difficult terrain in the middle and the going is slow and the supply is low and the
going is going to be slow for a long time I'm guessing. It might not be a bad idea for me to move all the RR engineers to the middle
rail to get those guys some supply.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 1:41:46 AM)

Here's the West side in T75. Nobody has enough supply to move or attack. The view here is substantially the same as last turn. Next
turn will look pretty much like this too. I'm giving thought to putting all the engineers together and just work on one rail at a time in turn.
At least that will spur progress SOMEWHERE. I'm thinking of putting a lot of engineers on the rail in the middle since they are hurting
the worst.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 5:43:11 AM)

Here's the T78 front lines. I'm running into rearguards and singletons and small groups and it's not all that hard to surround them so far
but I'm anticipating seeing more Germans as we get closer to the Gothic Line.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 6:45:13 AM)

Here's the T80 front lines. The character of the game is changing again. Because I'm running into real defenders every once in a while.
There's some German units railing south from the more northern parts of Italy so I've put about 40% of the planes in INT missions. There
is a minor need for CS missions and of course I have all the fighters on AS still. I've even moved to a three-dot setting for them.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 7:29:31 AM)

Here's a view of a hot spot in the middle. This battle is being fought in ultra slow motion because of the lack of supply. I have to save
up my supply to afford to move or attack.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 10:52:46 AM)

I've been moving units so the West side is different now in T80. I'm slowly trying to get my units around behind the German defenders
and I'm finding more and more German units that have railed in recently. They are arriving from the north and sometimes have some
damage from the INT missions I'm running. The INT missions have set up a program whereby the Germans are pummeled from the air
pretty severely each German turn. I'm impressed w/ the number and ferrosity of the attacks.

Bad as the supply situation is I'm impressed that most of your front line units are green of some sort

Hey there Petey.........I'm resting the units when they get below 60% readiness so that most of the units
are hovering right around 60% most of the time. Whenever they get enough supply to move a hex or
two ( 62% -- 65% ) then I move them. If not they stay put. It's slowed down the process remarkably
but the units are green and ready for combat and any surprises from the Germans.

I've got one dedicated RR engineer on each of the three rails headed north and the regular engineers
are on the middle rail and it's lengthening pretty well. I'm hoping to eventually have one rail that goes
from Reggio to the Arno river and there's one rail that goes across the waist of the peninsula.

The men of the 370th Regiment make their way through Prato, Italy and still have to climb the mountain in the background.

Petey -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 7:16:38 PM)

Allied Turn 44 and I've captured Naples with a FF landing. The Germans have put up a good fight all the way up from Paestum, with several good counter attacks. The Germans do a lot of bombardment attacks; it seems to me that their artillery should be set more towards combat support to help in their defensive fights.

Way to go Petey dude. I don't remember where I was in T44.....I'll have to look that up, see how we're tracking with each other.

You know, I don't have any proof but I'm thinking that Elmer uses his arty each way, defensively and offensively. Every Elmer arty unit
is usually cherry red meaning it's been working out hard. I'd be surprised to find Elmer not using his arty in both ways.

It seems like I was still fighting to get into Salerno or something. Definately not as far north as you did. Way to go. Good hunting.

EDIT: Hey Petey, how about posting one of those zoomed way out views, a strategic view of your front lines.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (2/23/2014 9:18:35 PM)

It feels like the air war is largely over with. I'm seeing fewer INT attacks and the furballs are rare anymore. If I thought about it a little bit
I might do some sweeps to enemy airfields to make sure but as it is I feel comfortable moving all the airplanes to a three-dot stance on
whatever their mission is. All of them.
