China land.
Russia and US combined.

Fine weather all around, the second impulse begins.

Nothing happens until CW's navel movement phase.

Britain is short of everything everywhere excpet for her navy. The home island is safe for now. The Med needs ground forces and air. Transports are in dire need. India is safe for the moment. The far east is naked.

For this impulse, Gort will sail into Boulgne. Halifax will send four CL to the 0 and 1 box of the North Atlantic. Liverpool will cover the Bay of Biscay and Cape st Vincent with the same set up. Alexandria will cover the East Med. France will cover the West Med for now.

There is little else that can be sent to reinforce the Med, this turn. Next turn the garrison in Liverpool will sail on the Queens to Malta along with a Spitfire that will arrive at the begining of the turn. The Queens will return to England for the next delivery, and the transport will continue to Aden to transport arriving forces from India and S.Africa to where they are needed.

Below are the forces in Gibralter.

After covering the W. Med convoys, France transported the 3-3 inf from Beirut to Marseilles.

The US has two transports in both the Atlantic and Pacific. Nimitz and an AA unit are escorted by the Augusta and will arrive in Hawaii next impulse. I like to Start deploying early while there is time to do so.

CW strat bombs Berlin for 1 Production point lost. It will be good when bounce interception for air units gets implemented. Will make it a bit more interesting.

Looking at possibilities for Chinese movement reveals that there is really not much available. This shows where the muscle is in the current Japanese position. It is obvious that either Sian or Changsa could be the target. The time is not right to make any moves until they reach the areas roughly past the blue circle.

I liken this to a skater coming down the ice on a breakaway. If the goalie acts now, he could be caught outside the net out of position and the next thing you know the puck is in the net. Its tempting to do something but not yet. This goes for the Chicoms too.

Rebase French bomber to be able to Strat Bomb Munich in normal range.

I see no reason to do a reorg here. The disorganized penalty for a unit is the same regardless of which one it is. I can just hope that no more get disorganized in the next impulse.

Earlier, the Polish air were interned, and both Polish ships survived and rebased to Liverpool.

Usually when it lloks like the turn will end soon, I like to take a look at the production page to see if there is anything that needs to be connected. Italy had not done anything with its one oil. I decided to save it in La Spezia this turn. If the navy gets called into a major action, then the oil will be needed to reorganize it. Yes it costs a prodiction point, but at some point before war is declared, italy will have to save some. La Spezia is chosen because of the fighter cover protecting the fleet.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 5:35:42 AM)

The rain slows down the Japanese. HQs had to rerout their moves to keep their units in supply. Chengchow was taken. A 1 chit was added to the us entry. G11/J9.

With the rain, no ground strikes were flown. I did not want to risk the halfed 4 tac bombers only to have them fail. The rain was enough to slow down movement preventing full use of forces in the area. Am hyoping for better weather on the next impulse. If it is still raining or worse, at least there will be more units to commit.

In the Germman air rebase phase, the bombers and ATR were brought forward in case the weather is still bad next impulse.

This was the last action taken by the Axis for this impulse.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 6:11:20 AM)

With the German army bogged down in Poland, the USSR demands Bessarabia. The Germans are tied down, so they let them have it.

It may not be the best set up for the USSR, but there it is. They have plenty of time to redeploy, even if Germany decides to keep pushing east after Poland falls.

Impulse 3. sep/oct 1939. Weather, rain.

China and CW will pass, everyone else combined.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 12:56:54 PM)

Up until the movement phase where the USSR moved into east Poland.

France railroad 3-3 inf from Marseilles to Rouen
US finished transporting AA and Ninitz to Hawaii, and Augusta returns to Frisco.

One 3 chit removed from the us entry pool.

All of my screenshots are trimmed in order to save space in the post, as I am using dual monitors.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 1:04:47 PM)

The USSR AA had railroad moved the AA to Moscow. Two AT units and armor are heading to moscow, and the weak inf will move toward the border for def. garrson points.

I will keep the "big dogs" and special units well behind the line, to be employed when the German advance gets bogged down by the weather. I intend to make Germany pay when winter hits after they declare war. We will see how well this works.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 1:10:12 PM)

Not much else happens due to passes and few moves available for the combined forces the impulse ends.

I don't remember why it was a good idea to me to allow the claim, but when I read up on this in my last game it made sense to do it so I will. Am feeling too lazy to look it up at the moment.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 1:39:24 PM)

So I decided to take a look at production, as I remembered something about losing something from the USSR by allowing their claim on Bessarabia. Well something happens in that exchange anyway. Again too lazy to look it up now.

One production point is lost to the CW bombing of Berlin. The thing I wanted to show was the cost of the first impulse of attacking, and using Rundstedt to reorganize the bomber and artillery. 1.2/1.35 units of oil. I need to find out what the difference is between the two numbers there.

The main thing here is what is not shown because it did not happen. By not attacking last turn which was to me a big gamble with the weather, I saved at least 1 unit of oil for a questionable return. This turn the weather is fine, everyone is in supply and I can commit a stronger force to the coming sttacks. The only issue will be the possibility of the turn ending before Warsaw is taken. Time will tell.

Here is the turn ending chances for this impulse. Japan and Germany will do land actions and Italy combined.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 3:34:59 PM)

It is the German ground strike phase, and I need to decide what units to strike with. Trying to keep everything straight in my head was pushing it a bit, what I had come up with was close to what I came up with when creating a graphic, so they brain is at least calculationg fairly well this morning.

If I only commit the 4 tac bomber, it will leave me 12 points for Ground support, which combined with the 48 points of ground forces will give me 6:1 odds. Not counting possible added disorganozation I have +13 to add to the die roll. I can gain another +3 if the strike is perfect. If my calculations are correct, I need to roll at least a 7 to take the city.

Being new to this game, I could be missing something. With 6 reorg points available, I think I will go for it. I will use the 3-3 art to strike Lodz in case the attack goes less than perfect. It may get lucky and disorg enough there to prevent them from replacing losses in Warsaw if there are any.

Here is the planning of the attack. The numbers on the units are the individual strength factors for the hidden ground forces beneath them.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 3:40:52 PM)

A good result in Warsaw. With the HQ disorganized, +2 more will be added to the die roll. Things are looking up.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 3:55:51 PM)

The move into position continues. Tungkwan is occupied with no US reaction. All forces here are now in supply. If the weather holds and the turn does not end, an attack on the garrison may be possible. If it is looking iffy, then I will use the air units to make another strategic bombing attack, and attack the mountain next turn.

With the entire remaining air units providing 8 points for ground support, the results were outstanding and Poland will fall this turn. Before the attack was rolled, the air units confident that their work in Poland was finished, regressed towards the west.

The turn does not end after Japan rebases two bombers closer to the front.

At the beging of the Allies 3rd impulse or impulse 8 according to the official count

All pass except China land
USSR combined to redeploy.

Sides will do what they need to do in this game regardless of who wishes the turn to end sooner.

Banjo -> RE: An advanced beginners AAR, and what i've learned so far and hope to learn (3/22/2014 7:06:41 PM)

It is the Chinese movement phase. With the Japanese forces now commited towards Sian, they can now begin to consider some short term options.

The Chicoms are hoping that the turn will end soon, and have to hold their ground and hope for the best. Their warlord is at its furthest extent and is holding the best ground that it can. Anyother moves will weaken the line.

CHinese warlords can shift position accordingly, however looking at this the norther one will probably move NW instead of NE. I do not want then too far into the mountains just yet.

Chinese cav. can join up in order to look for any opportunity to get behind the Japanese lines toward the NE.

The main body around Changsa will look to shift a unit or two around the Japanese left flank. A concerted effort with the cav could cut off supply to the Japanese Changsa blocking force.

Amoy and Swatow are now threatened. Hangchow has a possible threat. the 4-2 and 4-3 units switched places in order to give the 4-3 more room to move. The AT unit was paired with the cav at the start for extra muscle. It is now not needed for that role and will get back to the Burma road for better mobility.
