Economically, what happens to Oz if you were to destroy all refinery capacity and shut all flow of supplies and fuel from CONUS and then harass or stop supply flow and fuel from South Africa?

They would have a fuel shortage for sure but what about supplies?

Has anyone either been able to do that or been at the receiving end?

All those beautiful Australian actresses would blow up on carbs instead staying lean on meat. [:(]

Ah, but look at the hints of curves and the button line bulging in the right place!

Sorry guys, I guess Cap is stuck looking at that Helen Reddy link I posted.

OK, I looked at the Helen Reddy pictures. Santa Maria! I'll be back in a bit. I have to go take care of something. Yeah, that's it.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (7/30/2014 6:37:00 PM)

Well, that didn't take long. They just don't make them like Helen any more.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (7/30/2014 6:39:31 PM)

Still don't know where Admiral Sir Lord SPrior is. Probably being keel-hauled for making fun of officers.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (7/30/2014 6:43:03 PM)

I think SG might have snapped. She's posting in a community blog about the Gypsy woman with kids in tow begging outside of the Pollo Loco. [:D]

I have to admit it is pretty low to make children stand out in the hot sun to boost revenues.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (7/30/2014 6:47:18 PM)

I once took care of the first baby of a Roma family. Those were the happiest two parents I have ever seen. They were like a comedy stand up team. The dad asked if he could pay with gold. [:D]

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (7/30/2014 6:49:27 PM)

Anyone live near Portsmouth? Please go down and see what happened to Admiral Sir Lord SPrior.[:)]

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (8/3/2014 2:59:38 PM)

I re-examined the situation near Fiji. Mouseover intel shows an USN TF 280 nm SE of the IJN carriers. This is allegedly composed of 2 CV's and 6 TK's moving SW.

I initially dismissed this as probable TK's with escorts but I can't work out how that many TK's could arrive at that patch of ocean so quickly unless they departed from Melbourne or Sydney and then were turned around.

Could this TF really be the two USN carriers united?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (8/3/2014 3:06:02 PM)

This brings up an interesting tactical decision. Should we send the 3 carriers south to intercept?

Would the Allies even stick around? We have 187 aircraft aboard and enough torps for at least one attack.

Akagi and Hiryu are about 2 d north of Samoa.

Right..so if it is Lexington and Enterprise, they will have something around 162 aircraft, including 22 Brewsters and 27 crappy TBD's

They are closer to a good friendly port (but not by much) but we do have two more carriers coming down that could join the fight if it went to day 2 or 3
We have no friendly airfield to recover aircraft if our decks are afire.

I wonder if we should give chase/offer battle? Imagine we took out two Allied carriers in December? Hmmm.

Big decision. I will run it by Admirahr Rord SPrior when he gets back from Tortuga.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere (8/4/2014 2:36:37 PM)

I should add that if I were the Allies I would run like Hell after seeing at least 3 IJN carriers 7 hexes away. There is also this. The USN carriers might not have drawn fuel in the last 8 days.

My opinion is that this is *almost* a fair fight. By that I mean evenly matched. As the Japanese, you are duty bound to decline such an engagement. Equal losses, unless backing a critical offensive, are to be declined in 1941-1942.

You should soon have 10-11 CV/CVLs available for combined offensive operations. I like those odds (11:2) much better. Stop dividing up your superiority and accepting defeat in detail.

Meestah Cheekenboy - you would have proud Japanese warriors run from fight! This dishonors spirit of Bushido! They should Attack! Repeat: Attack! (Heh heh - I study Burr Hausey phirosophy at Ettajima.)
