Would have liked to have gone on that walk. I visited the French memorial at Verdun where over 400,000 men are buried. You have to see the carpet of crosses stretching as far as you can see in every direction to get a sense of the slaughter. Some of your pictures do that too. Gut wrenching. [sm=nono.gif]

It was very eerie. For some reason (maybe it's the black crosses, a lot of them with no name)they have a completely different feel to the French and Commonwealth cemeteries.

One of the guys found a rifle barrel and the working parts (the stock and furniture had rotted away). It was left at one of the memorials.
