ABN's didn't show other than the one unit .... I'm guessing a very large party .... you know how them boys like to party ....

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/12/2015 2:49:25 PM)

Looks like two abn divisions dropped on German units and were demolished. I found them in Northern Ireland. Must be a thing about Holland. Dropping on top of Germans. Bad intel.

The invasion in Holland is hanging on, but there is a large ring of Germans that magically appeared :-) With no apparent let up in the other invasion areas. Unfortunately, I couldn't get enough troops and armor ashore fast enough to attack them while they were sitting on the trains.

Here's the situation in Northern Europe. My best hope is probably for a total East Front collapse by Germany and Zhukov waltzing into Berlin to end the war.

I'm starting to think that the germans have a near infinite rail capacity ..... Not sure how real that is or not, but I moved a boatload of div's up there and could have moved more .....

scout1 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/12/2015 6:24:56 PM)

Contained this one too ......

Uncle Joe Approaches ...... gotta believe this is predominantly due to higher level beta version ..... an improved IMHO

Gained a hex!! Whoohoo.

Which meant I managed to get another division or two ashore. It's like using a crowbar that bends.

don't celebrate too hardy ........ gave one or two up as well ..... the might of the Wehrmacht is upon you ... since it isn't on Uncle Joe .....

scout1 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/18/2015 5:12:33 PM)

Dave, your Netherlands adventure is collapsing but don't despair ..... Uncle Joe's heavy guns will be heard in the suburbs of Berlin before long ..... As I stated before, me thinks your up version for the beta has some of the East Front fixes ......

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/20/2015 1:55:46 PM)

Invasion in Holland is going nowhere. A second invasion launched (good weather in the Med) just north of Anzio for a strike at Rome. Ashore with a couple of hexes of breathing room. Forgot to take a picture.

If nothing else, I'm keeping Scott occupied so the Russians can steamroll into Berlin (soon I hope).

scout1 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 1:12:06 AM)

you certainly are getting a damn site of experience with amphib Ops in this game .... Isn't that like number 5 so far .... ?
I forgot pic's too .... didn't throw this one back into the sea ... relying on local assets this time .....

Joel Billings -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 1:18:44 AM)

Can the German player post a screenshot of the East Front situation at the moment (East Front screen). The only impact that the newer versions might have on this game in progress (assuming no units are going from East to West now or vice versa) is that the artillery units may not have as high a CV value. Basically the new big hit taken when moving units from East to West that's in the new version won't help a game where the units have already made the move.

scout1 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 1:35:52 AM)

Joel,

I missed posting the german screenshot this turn. Previous turn is shown in earlier screenshot (4/18) ..... Have experienced a significant change in Soviet advance over the last several turns (images in forum) though I have had VERY little additional East to West movement .... stole most of it already ....

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 6:44:51 PM)

The situation in northern Europe is pretty static. Tried a couple of attacks which went nowhere in spite of trying to attack, swap out a stack of armor, attack again. Beating my head against the wall. I have quite a large army stuck in England with no place to go right now since I can't break out of my beachhead bulges. All I can say is Go, Uncle Joe, Go!

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 6:46:52 PM)

In Italy, the Anzio beachhead is faring a little better, although I think he could throw more at it if he wanted to. Expanded it a little and brought some more troops ashore. Rome appears to be heavily defended.

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 6:50:22 PM)

I'm thinking in hindsight it might have been better to invade around Brest, rather than in Holland, to see if I could shake something loose. My thought at the time was to extend him so that my Le Havre invasion and the Holland invasion could join up, however, with his line being 3 and 4 deep most places, that appears to have been a futile hope.

Of course, that was the idea of the southern France invasion too - extend him and hit him where he wasn't. He was able to railroad so many defenses into that area I was forced to withdraw from the beachhead.

I'm happy to see the Russian advance making great strides forward. Perhaps after all this the war will actually be over early.

Joel Billings -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 8:19:44 PM)

What's the date now? Also, could the German player post the East Front screen (not the map, but the one showing CV values in the East, etc.). Also, what's the score look like now? Thanks.

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/21/2015 10:08:24 PM)

It's turn 86 (Feb 3 ??) Scott hopefully will post those next time. Sorry, haven't looked at the score in a while. Pretty much playing it to see what I can accomplish (if anything) as WA :-)

Q-Ball -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/23/2015 2:26:12 AM)

Wow, that East Front is a farce, no wonder Allies are getting nowhere. Every Panzer and nearly all PzG divisions are committed to the West. Russians are still behind!

I won't play any game with EF Box on at this point, on either side

Joel Billings -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/23/2015 8:26:41 PM)

Russians are not behind. It looks like the Soviets are 1 month ahead of schedule, and the German situation is very bad, so it's likely the game will end between 1 and 2 months ahead of schedule.

Are the victory points right? What was going on that the Allies built up nearly 4000 victory points early? Did the German player ignore the garrison limits? This is going to end up a big Allied Victory if the score is correct.

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/23/2015 8:30:33 PM)

Victory point screen for the WA at this point:

marion61 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/23/2015 9:59:42 PM)

Appears someone had a "sweet tooth" for the EF box! I'm betting this was one of your first games, and managing garrisons is tough.

ultradave -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/24/2015 11:37:48 AM)

This is the first PBEM full campaign for both of us. Scott was very "liberal" with bringing east front divisions west. In the beginning there seemed to be little penalty and the result (if you look back through the AAR) is that I have been completely stopped with now way our of my invasion areas. Pretty much every German stack I face has >100 defensive value, and they are 3 deep everywhere. There is really no way to mount an attack of any kind. The only good news is that he's been mostly unable to break my beachheads.

Now that I say that my southern France invasion was defeated and I withdrew, and I just withdrew from my tenuous hold on the Netherlands. There are just too many Germans to fight. However, it appears that it's finally all catching up. It will be interesting to see where the East Front line is at the beginning of the next month (3 more turns).

It could be that what the WA have done is tie down a large portion of the German army so that the Russians could win the war. The Cold War boundary between future NATO and Warsaw Pact may end up being drawn on the Westwall rather than East and West Germany.

carlkay58 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/24/2015 12:29:50 PM)

Wow, the Axis gave up a lot of VPs in the Garrison category. That will win the game for the Allies right there. That more than offsets the lost VPs for the UBoats and VWeapon targets.

Seminole -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/24/2015 2:02:06 PM)

4000+ Garrison VP!?
I don't understand being able to drain the EF box but still suffering garrison penalties unless the player was just ignoring them entirely.

We're still looking at an Axis minor victory if the garrisons were actually managed, right? Waiting on the final results, but EF robbing has only cost the Germans 250 VP thus far. Seems negligible considering what he has pulled.

EF box was tweaked during this game, but I think trying to balance the game with the EF box is looking futile. The Allies might well win on VP, but this can't have been a very fun game for them...
For fun's sake I think I'll continue playing without player managed EF.

Yes, you are right. Very frustrating as the Allies. We started another without the EF box with the same sides. We've gotten to about turn 32 on that one. I've taken Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia, and invaded Italy around Taranto, and there is now a German defensive line north of Naples. Looks much more reasonable so far.

scout1 -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/27/2015 1:32:24 AM)

Couple of silly questions .....
1) Why does the German turn VP chart map Alliied VP's ? I figured (wrongly) that those per turn and campaign were german pts ..... Not that it matters as we're completeling this game at Joels request ...... Just thought the Germans were way away ..... ? May have been my bad ....

2) Yeppers .... had issues with the first several (10+) turns relative to thegarrison issue ...... penalty seems kinda steep given then was damn near ZERO impact to railway movement .... would have thought that a natural target to garrison issues

3) Not a question .... Soviet advance kicked in over the last 3-4 turns .... prior to that was MIA ........ So drawing conclusions as to ahead or behind to current position seems out of place ..... They have kicked ass recently ..... before hand ...... DOA .....

Helpless -> RE: ultradave vs scout1, '43-'45 Campaign Dec 23 1944 (Turn 78) (4/27/2015 6:31:27 AM)

There is no such thing as "Allied VP's" in campaign game. There is a single scale system. Positive gains go to WA, negative to Axis.
