Air Action over Sardinia

Lots of blasting all over. Some 109's get spotted basing themselves on Sardinia close to the front. 100+ plus fighters all in one spot got me excited.
Pretty sure I had buck fever because the whole airbase was nuked after around 30 strikes, the rest I was taking flak losses to just make the rubble bounce.

Lots of supplies fly into the FJ's but they take a some losses. I don't think it was worth it as there is no airfield to land the freight on.

I thought I had the germans isolated, but apparently I missed something. Some SS manage to rowboat rout out to Corsica.

Pelton gets a clear path to Cagliari as well, so I stop messing around and just clear the hex.

I also push the FJ out of Tortoli so I make damn sure the rest of the pocket is isolated next turn for subsequent reduction.

Turn 7ish clearing Sardinia

Super happy with killing some cardboard.

VP's are going badly however because Luftwaffe is badass over Germany and I do not dare try to get bombs onto the Uboats.

Taking Messina

So my original plan was to bomb messina for a turn and then attack it.
However the FLAK gutted my tac bombers so badly that I did not want to send them in a second time.
I put together what I could in the ground phase and just barely got the job done. Needless to say that whole air directive was low morale the next turn.

Turn 8-9ish
U-boat VP losses are out of control.
I finally have enough long range fighters to attempt to do something about it. . .

In other news Sardinia and Sicily are finally cleared despite heavy air losses in the final battle for Messina.
Allied air punishes Corsica, an abortive attempt to work over some air bases around Rome is punished in return.

Your AARs are very well made and good reading for a beginner...Thanks !

One small request though...It would be a big help if you could post some pictures of your settings for some of your airdirectives...To include things like the days you fly, intensity, altitude, number of Aircrafts, number of escorts, trg priority...

Iīm actually more worried about the P38 losses then the B17 losses...once I converted two P47 squadrons to P38 the pool shrank quickly... [:(]

Yep paint.net

I think p38's j/l get added in a little quicker, but yeah they are fragile as well.

I decide to go after 3 different Uboat targets.

Butt handed to me yet again.

In fact this raid my escorts were so bad that the only damage done to the Luftwaffe was from machinegun fire from the bombers

Cleared Corsica, doesn't make me feel any better about being forced to fight dumb in the air war though.
No idea how you fight the Germans in the air at parity or below. Just recipe for suicide in the air.

Hi Bealfiin.

I suffer the same problem as you with crashes. I thought it was connected to me using Fraps but perhaps not? Never had a single crash playing PBEM or the AI but when playing a severgame I get it almost every turn. [:(]

Regarding the P39s Iīve sent all of them to the Med were range is less of an issue. In my AI game I ended up not using them much at all.

When it comes to bombing the reich I think we WA players will have to accept that there isnīt any "easy" way to do it. You will suffer tremendous losses whatever you do. But the WA industry can to an extend handle it. The prime concern will be to have to losses occur on frames that can take it. Mainly the B17... with a 71 replacement rate anything less then that has actually been a positive round. The B24 also have a great replacement rate at 44 planes per week. That gives you 115 planes per week for the 8th although some has to go to the med of course.

What you do have to watch is the P38 (16/week) and the P51 (starting pool of 250 and no production). Heavy losses among those 2 frames can cripple them until the next models kick in 1/44. So you might actually be better off sending in you bombers unescorted from time to time.

Bomber Command has a better replacement rate then many realize. The Lancs come in at 48 planes per week and they have a large starting pool of almost 1000 planes. Halifaxes also have a big pool but only a small replacement rate of 20 planes per week. So you might have to switch some over to Lancs eventually. And donīt be afraid to empty your pools. Once bad weather kicks in around Oct/Nov you will have 4-5 months of virtually no flying. That will refill your pools nicely.

Just looking at your air options, I would increase your "strike number" setting from 1, to 99 or higher. I use the strike number 99 for most all my air strike numbers except for air superiority which I will set to 200 or 300. This number doesn't create too much morale or fatigue each turn.
