04. Mar/Apr 1940. Kaifeng, China. The Japanese player in the deployment of his forces near Kaifeng, China made a third mistake this turn. His forces were such that the Nationalist Chinese were able to "liberate" the city of Kaifeng without a fight (i.e., through maneuver only). This put Umezu and his army out of supply. The Japanese on their impulse was able to reestablish supply by moving a division, which was disorganized, to open supply. The Japanese then tired to retake Kaifeng on an attack slightly better than 50/50. They rolled a 2 and lost two ground units and saw the surviving two disorganized (but still in the supply). The Nationalist 6th infantry army on allied next impulse was able to move and against put Umeza and his shirking army out of supply. The Nationalist seriously considered attacking an out of supply and disorganized Umeza but with odds at +2.333 they decided against it.
