STEF78 -> Smolensk liberated! (2/14/2017 7:52:50 PM)

Turn 137, 27th january 1944

Bielgorod is free and Karkhov is now close.

The fight near Stalino is interesting as it shows that 3 (strong) german inf divs in level 2 entrenchment can be expelled with less than 200k men. That's fine!

STEF78 -> Losses and 1.10.00 (2/16/2017 5:42:51 AM)

I've installed last patch and I'm surprised with the losses displayed. Fights were quite the same for these 2 turns.

Did I miss something?

1. Changed the way current turn losses are calculated and displayed. No longer they are reset after the first visit to the losses screen. Losses from Axis Logistics Phase, Axis Turn, Soviet Logistics Phase, and Soviet Turn are now recorded separately. It’s possible to see them separately, or all together, by selecting appropriate option of the “CURRENT TURN FILTER”, shown at the bottomright of the losses screen. This information may not be accurate during the first two player turns for ongoing games.

Thanks!

Well, I should read patches, updates and even rules till the end... but it's far harder to read English when it's not your native language!

STEF78 -> February 1944 (2/19/2017 9:01:59 PM)

Turn 138, 3rd february 1944

An overview of the whole front after my moves. Nothing new, germans are giving 20 miles per week in the South and trying to delay my advance in the center. My objective is still to cross the Dniepr before mud. I think it's an achievable goal.

And the batlles, the win/hold ratio is above 10/1. red army is continuously earning morale, experience and strength

STEF78 -> February 1944 (2/21/2017 8:14:56 PM)

Turn 139, 10th february 1944

In the center, Bobo does his best in order to fill the gaps threatening the german frontline. Not an easy task as german inf divs begin to show clear signs of weakness.

For the first time, I see a german inf div below 10K men

In the South the germans give ground every week. Sometimes they don't retreat fast enough and I can grasp them. Below is my heaviest attack with 300K men

vvs007 -> RE: February 1944 (2/21/2017 10:11:17 PM)

is there a chance to see the mechanized corps? [sm=tank2-39.gif]... And more decisive operations with serious goals? [sm=duel.gif]

STEF78 -> February 1944 (2/22/2017 6:03:28 AM)

Not before clear weather occurs.

We have currently blizzard and MP cost prevents great operation. I cannot rotate rifle corps to create a 2/3 hexes breach in german lines and send my mech/tank corps far behind.

STEF78 -> Russian advance (2/25/2017 12:50:19 PM)

Back to turn 138 early february. I did a map showing the faster an faster advance of russian army but forgot to post it...

Progress during the last 3 monthes is greater than whole advance from november 1942 to october 1943

ericv -> RE: Russian advance (2/25/2017 3:16:46 PM)

You are doing a great job. Coming from far against a still very strong German Army. This remains on of the most entertaining AAR's with a still unclear outcome.

STEF78 -> RE: Russian advance (2/26/2017 10:10:07 AM)

Thanks

Final result cannot be predicted and Bobo is doing his best to keep a strong front line. Sometimes he trades time against ground, sometimes he holds the line but his work will be more and more difficult.

The bulk of his army is heavily weakening due to loss of morale and decreasing of inf and arts (see below). He still has strong Pzd units.

I have a full tank army in reserve and I will use it when clear weather occurs. It still Wonder if it will be in the South or in the center. We shall see where the axis are the weakiest

topeverest -> RE: Russian advance (2/26/2017 3:38:10 PM)

Been watching since I started my own Russian effort. well done of course

It does seem your opportunity is to transfer troops south pry open a portion of the line and dive deep towards Kiev or other suitable objective. Id go so far as to suggest stripping 20% of the northern MLr and send those forces in the south.

STEF78 -> RE: Russian advance (2/26/2017 6:24:25 PM)

Thanks for following the AAR.

Not sure if reinforcing the South is such a good idea. Bobo is keeen on giving ground South of pripyat marshes. It makes deliberate attacks difficult to achieve. He fought only for Stalino and seems to be wlling delay the access to the Dniepr.

As you know, I'm behind the curve and the direct road to Berlin is Minsk-Warsaw-Berlin...

At the moment my tank army is west of Kursk and can esily reach the landbridge or the Kiev-Cherkassy-Krementchug area.

topeverest -> RE: Russian advance (2/27/2017 3:04:31 AM)

Perhaps an attack specifically designed to encircle an enemy corps as soon as feasible. That will stretch him further.

Other ideas are knocking out Finland through Leningrad or single out Romania Hungry for continuous attack - they will crumble..
Anyway - ideas.

STEF78 -> RE: Russian advance (2/27/2017 7:50:22 PM)

Good ideas but not so easy to deal with.

Knocking out Romania will occur (I hope) next summer.

Finland.... hum, hum

And an encirclement is always a good aim!

STEF78 -> February 1944 (2/27/2017 7:56:35 PM)

Turn 140, 17th February 1944

Still 6 weeks with hard ground. Some german defensive CV in the center are looking grim (for Bobo!). And most of germans Pzd/mot are South of Vitebsk.

Orsha 20 miles ahead...

In Ukraine retreat is on, Dniepr bend 60 miles ahead

the best design AAR,STEF78 cool :), continuing to observe

1. The transition to the latest patch from the 142-th turn?
which method display СV will be use?
2. What is the limit for Army Growth? trucks? manpower?
3. The number of mechanized corps you have now and what they are quality? if it is not a military secret :)

It looks better for the losses

Below turn 144, at the beginning

Both, I miss more than 1M men and due to fast advance I'm 60K trucks short

only one, because of the cost in trucks. I have a 31 tank corps.

STEF78 -> Velikie Luki liberated (3/5/2017 10:44:40 AM)

Turn 141, 24th february 1944

Are the limits of axis strategy close? A tank corps raid proved to be able to liberate VK and the frontline SW of Novgorod is thin.

It seems to me that they want to deny access to the Dniepr north of Gomel and to fight for the landbridge. That's fine for me as it means heavy fights.

In the South, note the presence of 2 strong Pzd units near Dniepropetrovsk. Next fight area?

And another week with 40K men lost for the axis side (too much) and less than 60K men lost on russian side (I receive 75K men each week)

jwolf -> RE: Velikie Luki liberated (3/6/2017 12:42:36 PM)

It looks like you will be able to outflank the land bridge area from the north. For how much longer do you get good fighting weather? Through March?

We are playing random weather... But no heavy mud is expected in the next weeks [8D] except maybe in Europe weather zone.

Concerning the landbridge, I want to bypass the Dvina/Dniepr line as much as possible. Taking Vitebsk Orsha and Moghilev would be fine.

STEF78 -> March 1944, axis on the way back! (3/9/2017 7:36:50 PM)

Turn 142, 2nd March 1944

Great change at the opening of the turn (picture before my moves). Axis is retreating from Baltic Sea to Black Sea. My aim remains the same: creating as much bridgeheads over the Dniepr as possible.

I Second this statement. Plus not to mention that Stef78 does some "great" AAR's :)

STEF78 -> Pause (3/22/2017 8:20:36 PM)

Thanks for these kind words. I do my best to make a nice AAR which can be read like a book. It's not an easy task as English isn't my native language. I wish I could do it in french!

We begun this game 18 months ago, it's a long, long adventure.

At the moment the game is on pause, turn 145, german to play. German front is in bad shape but we are in 1944... I still have 2 turns to post

I'm sure that we will resume the game soon and go to the "bitter" end.

On turn 144, I'm pretty proud of the result below. I will tell your later...

STEF78 -> March 1944, still on pause (4/10/2017 7:40:07 PM)

Turn 143, 9th march 1944

Game is still on pause but I'm sure that Bobo will be back soon [;)]

North

I'm hammering in the direction of Pskov. Note the 3 inf divs gathering 28k men. Time is hard for german infantry

Velikie Lukie

Almost no pzd/mot in this area. German inf divs do their best.

South

OKH tries to keep the Dniepr clear of russian units and slows the retreat. It allows a lot of victories.

And the OOB. german artillery is dramatically weak.
