At first glance you have evenly spread Japan forces - which means they lack pushing power in both sectors and won't achieve that much.

WiF is a game of mass; and Japan on such large map has to screen a side of China and mass in the sector they want to attack to earn meaningful gains.

Turn 8. Nov/Dec 1940. Global Map.

Wow ... took a look at the extent of Italy's empire. It's bigger than Germany's! And they show soon have Persia aligned.

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Trade.

Germany reduces its trade to Italy by 2 oil points. Germany is now sending 4 non-oil and 1 oil resource to Italy.

No other changes from last turn in trade were made.

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. Weather.

The axis won the roll for the initiate on the first roll with no chance of a re-roll. They had +1 advantage on the track. As the axis player(s) I thought long and hard about whether or not to let the allies move first. Having the initiate in late spring or early summer for the planned Barbarossa, while not a must, is highly desirably.

In the end, as the axis player(s) I decided to move first for two primary reasons. Unprotected late number of CW convoys in both the North Atlantic and in the Cape Verde Basin.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/19/2016 8:36:34 PM)

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. German U-boats. North Atlantic.

Germany takes a combine and moves three u-boats units into the North Atlantic to try to initiate combat with unprotected CW convoys. The reason they're unprotected is due to a mistake made by the CW player during the stay at sea phase. He just overlooked this area, which resulted in all his ships returning to base and leaving the 8 CPs unprotected.

And now he may pay the price for his mistake.

The German player elects to initiate combat and he rolls a 9 followed by the CW player's roll of a 9. Neither side is able to find the other so no combat. The CW played has dodged this bullet!

Orm -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/19/2016 8:39:56 PM)

Maybe CW can send a HQ and a few units to Iraq and conquer it?

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/19/2016 8:40:59 PM)

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. Italian submarines. Cape Verde Basin.

The Italians take a naval and move three Italian sub units into Cape Verde Basin.

This was the sea area where Italian subs last turn sunk 3 CW CPs and forced another 3 CPs to abort. In response, the CW was able to replace the 6 CPs but was only able to put escorts in the 0-box. The result was that all escorts had to return to base last turn leaving 10 unescorted (unprotected) CPs. Another juicy target for axis subs, in this case Italian subs.

The Italian player chooses to initiate combat and promptly rolls a 10 followed by a roll of 9 from the CW player. Neither side finds the other and no combat. The CW player dodges a second bullet this turn.

Yes, I think that's where the CW player will try to engage the axis. East Africa and the Middle East. Though, Transport priority is getting NAVs and fighters to Malta and Gibraltar. However, the Queens and the NEI transport are being used to ferry CW troops from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, India into the Middle East, and East Africa.

I do need to spare transport resources to get a HQ unit. Maybe the Queens can drop by England at the end of this turn and do that duty.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/19/2016 8:48:42 PM)

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. Italian submarines. Cape St. Vincent.

One Italian sub unit is unable to reach Cape Verde Basin and must stop in the Cape St. Vincent. This unit decide NOT to try to initiate combat but will be used to try to disrupt (e.g., intercept, discourage) CW transports headed to Gibraltar or Malta.

Do not forget to place at least one unit on Singapore to guard against Japanese adventures.

I learned my lesson the hard way in a previous game when a Malysian partisan popped up to take an ungarrisoned Singapore on turn 2. Since that game I always place a CW unit at start there and make sure that it always stays garrisoned. In this game I started a CW gun division there, which is now in India. This unit was replaced a few turns back by a 6-2 white print Australian Mil to maintain the garrison against partisan but also to "guard against Japanese adventures," as you would say. [:)]

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. Italian RM. Eastern Med.

The Italians also used their naval to beef up their naval forces in the Eastern Med and to (again) get a CP there in order to get the RP on Cyprus back to an Italian factory.

Both the Italian RM and the British RN decide NOT to try to initiate combat. Both sides decided that now is not the right time to fight a naval battle there. But, both sides expect attempts for action later this turn.

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. East Med. North Africa. Middle East.

While the Italians may not be able to match the RN in number of surface ships, they plan to compensate for that deficiency by controlling the air over the Eastern Med.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/19/2016 9:05:11 PM)

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. German Mobilization for the Eastern Front.

Germany aligned Romania and the USA did NOT react.

Germany used their combine to bring more ground and air troops to the border with the Soviets.

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. Japan. Strategic Bombing, Lanchow, China.

Japan takes a combine and uses one of their air missions for strategic bombing of Lanchow. The raid reduces Chinese production by 1 PP. This represents a 20% loss of production for the Chinese given that total production of 5 PPs last turn. This is not insignificant.

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Axis #1. Japan. Ground Strike. China.

Japan conducts two "low probability" ground strikes against China. Both strikes failed to disorganize any targets.

Turn 9. Jan/Feb 1941. Allied #4. CW. Red Sea.

The CW takes a naval and uses that naval to transport from CW troops into East Africa. With Kuwait and Iraq in Italian hands, East Africa is the only place where the CW can move troops and put then in a position to fight Italian troops.
