Interesting development in the USSR. No Luftwaffe in the South. The Soviets should try to make things a little more difficult for Germany by moving towards Dnjeprprotetrovsk (what's in a name). Use the two stacks south of Von Bock to move them both one hex to the west. Move the stack in the Krim (the whole stack) one hex to the NW. Germany must react in some way, which probably means that no attack on Odessa will be made this turn. Also: von Bock needs to divert units into the city of Dnjeprprotetrovsk to avoid the Soviets from liberating the place...

Also: ground strike the Finnish INF north of Novgorod. It's out of supply and easily destroyed if it gets disrupted.

Comrade Stalin wishes to thank General Centuur for his keen observation and excellent advice. He has commanded his Marshalls to look into and act accordingly to your recommendations.

Elsewhere though, and unbeknownst to Comrade Stalin, German intelligence units have intercepted, decoded and relayed this vital information to OKW for analysis and action (i.e., it's currently the axis impulse).

All three axis (Germany, Italy and Japan) take a land.

Italy, Egypt.

Italy uses their land to reposition their forces in Egypt to counter a possible emerging threat from the south. Maybe finally the large number of Italian troops in Egypt may be put to some use by the Italians. The question is, is the emerging threat from Alexander the real thing or a feint?

German begins their land with two ground strike missions against the Soviets. The first mission is opposed with an air to air battle that resulted in the German bomber unit getting through to it's intended target, however at the cost of a Luftwaffe fighter unit shot down.

The ground strike mission itself was a bust.

The second ground strike mission was unopposed and resulted in 1 of 2 units being disorganized.

The Wehrmacht make two land attacks against the Soviets (1 in the North and 1 in the South). The Luftwaffe provides minimum ground support to both. And both ground support missions are opposed by the Red Air Force. The first Luftwaffe ground support mission is successful and adds 1 factor to the attack.

The second ground support mission is a disaster for the Luftwaffe. Not only do they lose their bomber unit but the Soviet Red Airforce gets a bomber of their own through which adds 2 factors to the defense.

Both German land combat attacks are Blitz's. And both are at fair odds. The first combat attempted is the land combat attack in the south which saw an unsuccessful attempt by the Luftwaffe and a successful attempt by the Red Air Force to add ground support. While this was bad enough to tip the odds in the Soviet favor, a roll of 5 by the Germans really hurt.

For the land combat attack in the north, the Germans again roll poorly (this time an 8).

German intercepts of Soviet transmissions indicated a possible weakness in the south that the Red Army could exploit. OKW hopefully strengthen German defenses in the south to make that weakness moot.

Japan uses one of their two air missions of a land for an ineffective ground strike against the Nationalist Chinese.

Their second air mission was a naval air mission flown to the 1 box of the South China with the objective for providing direct cover to IJN CPs next turn.

The IJA breaks through the Nationalist lines and threatens to encircle a number of their units. Finally, the IJA seems to be flexing their muscles in China.

The CW gives another go at a port strike on the Bismarck and achieves the same result as previously. The Germans are able to avoid combat.

The RN successfully engage the Italians in the East Med and is able to break supply to their troops in Africa and the Middle East. Though at the cost of a Hampden unit being shot down.

The USN follows up this ineffective port strike on the naval units in Truk with an equally ineffective ground strike on the organized ground units in Truk.

The USN has a good turn in the Pacific against the IJN. These two navies clash in no less than four sea areas which saw the USN gaining uncontested control of three of the four.

The three sea areas in which the USN gained uncontested control were: The Marianans, Hawaiian, the Marshalls (only a Japanese fighter with no air to sea factors remained).

The fourth sea area was the Solomons in which the IJN was able to avoid combat.

The IJN is able to successfully avoid the USN. This was the only IJN victory of the five naval battles that occurred this turn between the IJN and USN. And one might characterize this Japanese "victory" as a hollow one as all they did was avoid combat.
