Turn 16. Allied #5. USN. The Solomons.

The USN moves two carrier task forces out to sea to engage the Japanese. The first task forces is composed of the US aircraft carriers Lexington and Saratoga and is sent to the Solomons. A carrier air battle ensues. This is the first naval battle in history where neither side saw the other except from the air.

Well, historically that would be the Battle of the Coral Sea, but in my alternate reality (i.e., this game) that's this battle.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/18/2016 3:31:54 AM)

Turn 16. Allied #5. USN. The Solomons. Naval Air Battle. Round 1.

US carrier pilots have some training to do. They missed on an opportunity to damage one of the IJN's front line aircraft carriers. On the up side, the USN did manage to force the 3 IJN warships in the area to abort.

In return, the USN aircraft carrier Lexington is forced to abort.

For an historical perspective this battle was bloodless compared to the first carrier battle in history, the Coral Sea. The Lex was sunk, but in this alternate reality she was only forced to abort.

Both sides stay but neither search roll succeeds.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/18/2016 3:47:31 AM)

Turn 16. Allied #5. RN. Italian Coast.

The RN decides to try to initiate combat off the Italians Coast. However, it's the Italians that find and surprise the RN. As inviting as it was for the Italians to go through with the attack, they opted in the end to avoid combat. Their number one priority is to maintain supply to their forces in North Africa, Libya and the Middle East. Though to what end? Without transports all corps are trapped there. Never the less, it keeps the RN and, hence the CW, busy.
