The naval battle ends as the damaged Vichy battleship flees the area along with the aborted Vichy heavy cruiser. This gives the RN uncontested control of the East Med.

No land combat in Italy. However, the Western Allies continue to pour more air units into Italy and Sicily in the hopes that the Italians will see the folly of their ways and quit this war.

In Sicily, Italy moved a 4-5 cav corps from Messina to the mountains adjacent to numerous allied units and planes. Their intention is to delay the surrender of Italy by one turn. A turn in which they will continue to "negotiate" with the Western Allies while they move what ground and air forces they can out of the country so these forces can continue to fight and not surrender with Italy proper. Also, any and all German and land forces in Rome will be moved from the city so as not to interfere with the delicate Italian peace negotiations. In reality the Italians are playing both sides. And since both sides are getting something they want, including the Italians, everybody seems fine with that. But I think the axis may be getting the better end of deal.

While German forces have made significant gains in this sector, they are spread very thin. The question is whether or not the Soviets have the forces to counterattack effectively.

A successful Blitz would have given the Germans control of an unoccupied Stalingrad, however, because the Germans only achieved a retreat, which still destroyed both Soviet units, they are unable to advance into and capture Stalingrad.

The Germans did manage to capture Saratov and the Soviet oil resource two hexes east of Krasnodar, which they captured last axis impulse.

Again, German forces in this sector are extremely spread out but there aren't many Soviet troops around to threaten a counterattack.
