Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Axis #2. Soviet Defensive Air Support, Air to Air.

Air to Air battles on the Eastern Front do not seem to be going Germany's way.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. Weather.

Same weather roll, and hence same weather, as last impulse pair.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:14:21 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. Actions.

CW takes another combine as their were critical needs for both RN lift and for moving CW units. So a combine it was. Also a combine will allow the USN, with the CW initiating, to try to continue their naval battle in the South China Sea.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:19:47 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. CW. South China Sea.

The RAF does find and initiate a naval combat in the South China Sea for the USA, who took a land.

The USN is much grateful to the RAF for this.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. USN. South China Sea. Naval Air Battle.

The naval air battle in the South China Sea is short but very sweet for the USA, and the CW, in general.

USN carrier air groups are able to isolate Japanese convoys in the South China Sea and sink them all (i.e., 7 Japanese CPs destroyed).

Though the battle ends after this initial round, the Western Allies are extremely pleased with the result.

As a player I also reinforced a valuable rule of thumb I try to play by. Don't get greedy when you have a very good chance to accomplish your primary objective whereby "getting greedy" reduces the chance of meeting that primary objective. In this case, since the Japanese carriers are gone from the sea area, the primary objective is sinking Japanese convoys.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. USN. Port Strike. Canton, China.

Well, the USN can't win them all.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:30:14 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. ChiComm.

This early in the turn the odds are just not there to take a shot at liberating Kaifeng, China. However, the ChiComm have cut off the Japanese defenders there.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:33:04 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. USSR. Naval Air. Black Sea.

The Soviets use one of their air missions for a rare, but very critical, naval air mission. This mission is necessary to reestablish supply to Soviet army units on or near the Black Sea.

A Luftwaffe fighter unit opposed the mission but the Soviets are able to whether the combat unit it ends, thus opening supply to their units through the Black Sea.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:33:37 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. USSR. Ground Strike.

A second air mission by the Red Airforce is a ground strike against two German armor corps. The mission is opposed by Luftwaffe fighters which in turn are opposed by Soviet fighters. Both the air to air and resulting ground strike goes pretty well for the Soviets.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. USSR. Rail. Blue Factory.

Just to be on the safe side, the Soviets rail the blue factor located in Yaroslavi east past the Urals to Sverdlovsk.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:44:05 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. RN. North Atlantic, Arctic Ocean and East Med.

The RN chooses not to try to initiate a naval combat in any of these areas. Because no additional allied air or naval units were added to these areas the Germans, as the non-phasing player, are not given a chance to initiate a combat.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 6:46:38 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. CW. Free France. East Med.

Both Vichy turned Free French units in Syria refused orders to advance into unoccupied and Italian conquered Transjordan. Ike and Churchill are furious.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. US Army Air Corps. Strategic Bombing. Bratislava, Czechoslovakia.

The Western Allies resume their strategic bombing of Germany with some effect.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. Western Allies. Land Combat. Italy.

The Western Allies make only one land combat this impulse. No need to push this early in the turn given the guarantee of a long turn with fine weather for most of the globe.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #3. Western Allies. Austria. Italy. Southern France.

Austria is why the CW took a combine instead of a naval. A CW mountain corps and infantry division push through the mountains of Austria and threaten critical German production and oil resources north and east of their positions. The USA IV mountain corps is used to protect their flank.

French partisans take Lyons.

By the way, the Germans rail last impulse to move Bock to Northern Italy, even though this move cased the collapsed Vichy, as resulted in supply for ALL Germany units in Italy.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/27/2016 9:02:04 PM)

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Axis #4. Actions.

Japan takes a combine in order to take 4 CPs out of the China Sea back to port, reorganized them and then in a following impulse put them into the South China Sea, which currently has 0 Japanese CPs.

Japan also need to move Terauchi and a couple of other units in Northern China. Thus, a combine.
