Allies remain. Will Italy remain in the sea area as well?

Yes please.

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/9/2017 8:37:45 PM)

Allies decline to include the submarines for the second round so combat is over in the Italian Coast.

Strategic Bombing:
1) France bombs Barcelona
2) CW night bombs Lille.
3) USA night bombs Brussels.

Will Germany intercept any of the bombers?

And will Germany use the AA if any bomber clears? And how will the 4 AA shots be utilized (what prio)?

Hour is getting late so the action will continue tomorrow.

Mayhemizer_slith -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/9/2017 9:00:55 PM)

No interception.

I believe firing with AA gun 2 shots to each planes means they can't hit anything. So AA gun fires away to save a day.

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/10/2017 7:26:49 AM)

The AA did indeed send both bomber home.

Note to self: Do not change plans late and when you are tired. And most important of all, keep it simple. [:D]

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/10/2017 7:27:55 AM)

On a more positive note. The bombing raid on Barcelona was a stunning success.

May/Jun 1942
Impulse: 1 (Allied)

Land Movement (Cont)
The bulk of Koniev's Far Eastern Front, having cleared Changchun and Kirin, push south in the valley between the Liao river and the foothills of the Changbai Mountains. Meanwhile Koniev orders two corps and a division into the mountains to try and flank the Japanese units streaming south from the capital. The right flank of the advance is guarded by the Mongolese cavalry, soon to be joined by the 3rd Cavalry Corps.

How brown is my valley? (with apologies to Richard Llewellyn)

Land Movement (Cont)
Mao continues to probe the retreating Japanese in northern China by moving his eastern force toward Suchow where the Japanese 6th Infantry are providing the rearguard for General Terauchi. The Japanese communist force needs to remain vigilant in case the Japanese decide to reinforce the Chinese mainland....

Land Movement (Cont)
Now we come to the Western Front where the situation is altogether more worrying - and frankly a whole lot less fun [:D]

Around Leningrad the 16th Rifle Army and the 1st Mechanised Army straddle the Volkhov River on the southern shores of Lake Ladoga to guard the southern approaches to Leningrad and also the Moscow-Leningrad rail link.

To the south, the Dvina is seen as being crucial in trying to hold back the German Army Group North. Zhukov orders his Militia units to make last stands in Lithuania and Eastern Poland in order to try and allow as much of the Northwest Front to escape (or at least begin the process of escape) but the Rasputitsa, which the Soviets were praying for in case the Germans got the initiative, has ironically impeded their own withdrawal having won the first impulse for themselves.

Impressive USSR western front status report by Warspite1 [&o]

May/Jun 1942
Impulse: 1 (Allied)

Land Movement (Cont)
The main problem the Soviets face is that the Western Front is somewhat devoid of units... A big stand is ordered by Stavka in Minsk. Stalin has been watching the latest episodes of Game of Thrones for inspiration and accordingly orders that General Pavlov's head be mounted on the approaches to the Belorussian capital as a reminder that failure is not an option here. Zhukov is likely to have to face giving up the 9th Guard Infantry Army and the 51st Rifle Army and hand over to the Western Front depending on what happens in the next impulse.

May/Jun 1942
Impulse: 1 (Allied)

Land Movement (Cont)
The potentially desperate situation in the north means that, as a precaution, the 1st Rifle Army is ordered north to Gomel.

Once again, Militia units are ordered, where possible, to do their thang in cities, while the real army get the **** out of here [:)] Bessarabia is seen as being the best place to allow time for those troops of the Southern Front ordered to hold a line on the Dneistr.

The Northern Ukraine is the biggest concern as there are no natural obstacles to impede the German troops

Air Transport: None
Land Combat: None
Air Rebase:

Air Rebase:
China
The Chinese switch a fighter unit to southwest of Nanking.

USA
A fighter unloads in Liverpool.
In the Pacific a second fighter unloads at Niue.
In Singapore a fighter on USS Ranger rebases to USS Hornet which now has a nice balance of fighter and torpedo bomber units.

Commonwealth
In Egypt a Whispering death is ordered to Port Sudan, while a Blenheim heads for Aden.

USSR
A MiG rebases southwest of Kiev
A Lend-Lease Hurricane is flown south from Leningrad to northeast of Pskov, while a third fighter makes a short hop to west of Vitebsk.

Reorganisation: None - so its back to the baddies.

M/J 42 Axis 2

No DoW or alignments.

All 3 Axis powers opt for land.

Japan sends a ground strike from Port Arthur against the Mongol CAV.

The Germans and Italians mount a mixed effort at Bayonne. Do the Allies wish to send any interceptors?

The Axis have the G.50 and Fw-190 they could add to the mix.

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/11/2017 5:15:13 PM)

So both the fighters are escorts, right?

Edit: Never mind. Now I see that the FTR2 is a escort and the other is a bomber,

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/11/2017 5:24:14 PM)

Both the Hurricane and the Spitfire intercept. Surviving fighters land in Santander. Spitfire is front fighter. CW targets fighters. And stay as long as any bombers remain.

Reminder: CW has one pilot that needs to be compensated. Preferably not today, but still....

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/11/2017 5:36:40 PM)

The Italians add the G.50's.

Coming in low, the first wave, consisting of the Bf-110's is spotted by the RAF's Spitfire group. As the interceptors dive down, the Bf-110's jettison bombs and form a defensive circle. With their eyes on the 'easy prey' fighter-bombers, the RAF pilots fail to notice the German fighter escort, with fatal consequences.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/11/2017 5:42:59 PM)

Out for revenge, the pilots of the RAF Hurricane group swarm into the Bf-109's. Neither side can obtain a decisive advantage and both are forced to break off combat as fuel and ammunition is depleted.

Italian and German bombers begin their bombing runs....

To the astonishment of everyone, the Italian artillery lands a reasonable number of rounds on target. The German Stukas finish the job.

Wow that was unexpected - I didn't think the Japanese would attack this unit. My fault I should have put some aerial defence in range [8|]. Stalin is taking on board another lesson from Game of Thrones. Like Arya he has a list that he recites each night before turning in. The Chief of the air force in the Far East has just joined that list....

Mayhemizer_slith -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/11/2017 8:17:32 PM)

Japanese attack against CAV.

Germany attacks Bayonne and 4 units in east.

Does CW want to use HQ support in Bayonne? Current odds are 31:22 = 1:1.

Germany can use it too and both sides have some ground support (Germany has Stuka 5 tactical factors, HUN fighter 2 and FW190 1).

Mayhemizer_slith -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (9/11/2017 8:34:37 PM)

I ask ground support too.

Germany sends Stuka and HUN fighter as bombers to Bayonne, FW 190 is ready to intercept.

Note that Italian MTN is not attacking Bayonne.

Does CW want to send any ground support or fighters?
