Lowpe -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/5/2017 3:06:11 PM)

Turn is finished and with the Allies....the die is cast. The rubicon is crossed...

This could be a very painful day...probably will be for someone. Although, we all know Japanese bombardments really under perform.[:'(]

I am going in with TB and DD first to clear out the riff raff and improve detection on the minefields.

Then a two BB fleet will bombard, followed up by a 2 CA fleet.

In reserve is another battleship, cruisers and light cruisers...which will be able to go in on the morrow.

This is pretty scary, boys and girls...definitely don't do this in your games![:D]

Just a friendly reminder that loose keyboards will sink ships! So watch your posts in other AARs for a little bit!

Canoerebel -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/5/2017 3:29:46 PM)

Was the Bismark sunk or scuttled?

That is a little off topic...or are you trying to convey some meaning?

Lokasenna -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/5/2017 4:53:47 PM)

If all your bombardment TFs are originating from the same place... I'd have just combined them all into one bombardment.

Aurorus -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/5/2017 7:21:03 PM)

It is a little late now since you already sent the turn, but I would just use the BBs to bombard Singers. The CAs are too vulnerable and not very effective from long range.

With good recon, you should achieve satisfactory results. I would not be too nervous (except maybe a little nervous about the CAs, but then I love my CAs).

I was being playful here. Your "loose lips sink ships" admonition reminded me of the running gag commentary in the forum, a number of years ago, about the sinking of the Bismarck. As best I recall, the debate became very heated ("She was sunk!" "No, she was scuttled!") and thus the issue became a running gag, kind of like TMTSNBM and anything posted by Geoff Lambert.

Lowpe -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/6/2017 4:30:34 PM)

I get it now, and recall a sailors Father stationed in the Med ? that wanted to find out if his son was ok...and British Int cracked the code and figured roughly were the ship was...at least that is my memory of it.

I am sorry I didn't get it...as having to ask for an explanation always ruins the humor...but you can take solace and satisfaction by laughing at me instead of with me this time.[;)]

Tell us more! Tell us more!

Your bombardment hasn't taken place yet, has it? Is that coming this turn?

Tell us more!

Lowpe -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/7/2017 10:21:25 PM)

Myoko takes an early hit and retires from combat, while the brave Hyuga rushes forward into torpedoes and heavy gunfire...she puts a 36cm shell into the Houston before retiring...to the south the bombardment of Singers steams ahead into mines and perhaps the Prince of Wales!

Lowpe -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/7/2017 10:48:32 PM)

Torpedo boats and destroyers sally into Singapore first...clearing out the single ship task forces made of glorified motor launches....and then the big girl arrives...far off on the horizon she opens up with visions of burning ships and planes in her gunners' wildest dreams.

For Singers is packed with planes and ships...not to be as the rats have fled!

Those are not bad results on a bombardment from 3 ships. Hopefully you knocked out some of the flak guns that make life so miserable for the IJA over Singapore.

Oversight, not having some fighters patrolling here. It lists one oil hit, but according to tacker no damage was done. This is an aspect of the game I have never really verified...how accurate the combat report is to industry.

Lowpe -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/8/2017 1:11:13 AM)

Wither the Houston now? She was involved in two firefights, and amazingly none of my strike planes flew against her...she moved south after fight the Hyuga, avoided the surface bombardment fleets and sank an AKE and PC.[:(]

Kudo's to her.

But now, they are probably running low on ammo, and out of torpedoes...where would you go? Batavai or Singers.

There is a ton of subs in the area...and the Allied fighters seem to have made for upper Sumatra (Medan area).

Would you risk a run into Singers, perhaps using the lovely Dutch subs to drop more sub mines there and risk running past several battleships...or would you head for Batavia and then the open ocean? There is a bunch of Dutch PT boats hanging around Batavia to run interference.

It seems to me that the Allies aren't retreating, but rather are willing to spend their cruisers here.

Clear weather, which is an unbelievable advantage for the Allies, but moonlight is 3%.

Hmm., is it any wonder I have moved all of the AA on Honshu to the eastern half weeks ago...plus some other surprises.

The Sasebo and Yokosuka Mavis Sentais, set no arc set, 50% search, range 20.

Detected at 18 hexes...my guess is this is a pretty substantial task force.[X(]

Andav -> RE: The Dutch are the first to Die! (6/8/2017 12:28:13 PM)

Do you think it is a CV TF for SCTF?? Which CVs are unaccounted for after the battles around the DEI? Detection will be hard to maintain at that range.

I have come to the conclusion it is always wise to assume the absolute worst when it comes to long range naval search detection![;)]

Yep, I think it is 2-3 Fleet Carriers (Yorktown, Hornet, Wasp)-- heck I wouldn't put it past him to have figured out how to get Ranger here too[:D] -- and his goal was to either nail the Shokaku and Zuikaku which was operating in the Aleutians, or simply to swing up the Kuriles bagging what he can - the Tone is in these waters too.

Of course I may have spotted his support fleet with fuel, etc, which means he is even closer![X(]

He definitely has carrier superiority, and really only Bihoro is a size 4 runway so as long as he steers clear of that he will be ok.

All of the AA in the Home Islands are on the eastern half of Honshu, many locations with 4 decent AA units. The beaches are held in division strength except for Ominato. There are also plenty of Nates and Claudes flying around with actually decently trained pilots (60's).

Plus TF Crane (Shokaku and Zuikaku - 140 planes) is behind Ominato.[;)]

Paramushiro is size 1 with 47 aviation support currently and working on going to two.
