I've never seen an AAR with "bitter end" setting reaching the end of the game.

That's pretty normal. I played 3 times as german till the end and, past spring 1944, you're asking several time this question: "is it worth to continue as game is over?"

Of course but even with an earlier end of the game, we may still be able to estimate final victory point count.

So the game is continuing?

Give Stelteck some bows and arrows and a company of men and Stelteck would still be up for the fight. Probably think of an ingenious and novel way to do it as well!

bigbaba -> RE: December 1942 (10/14/2017 4:33:24 PM)

there is a famous german proverb named "zu Tode siegen". means more or less that one can get killed by endless winning. just saying so, steff.:) when will you stop advancing?

Advancing is harder week after week. We are facing numerous Cav and Tank Corps and with the change of AP cost, rifle corps will grow up like mushrooms in autumn...

STEF78 -> January 1943 (10/15/2017 6:48:57 PM)

Turn 82, 7th january 1943

Blizzard all over the russian front. We are lacking of men and trucks but we receive new generals... no comment

In the South Guriev is an empty city and Stavka has gathered several units to deny free access to this City. Do we have reach our eastern max advance?

North of Stalingrad, heavy fights to gain some square miles of snow...

BrianG -> RE: January 1943 (10/15/2017 9:14:15 PM)

did I see a Rumanian infantry division with a cv of 6?

Nice

We are some turns ahead of the AAR, I'm currently playing the 90th and below are the best romanians units, after move for some of them. With a NM of 55, they should earn some power

John B. -> RE: January 1943 (10/16/2017 1:40:50 AM)

I had some free time today and read this AAR from the start. Very interesting and a real fighting spirit on both sides.

Rumanians units are annoying. I will have to reeducate them in the future extended soviet union.

Turn 83, 14th january 1943

Lots of tank corps between me and Guriev...

Of course I cannot resist targeting such juicy preys. AFV losses are 8 to 1.

Still advancing north of Elton...

How do you merge your maps ?
I understand how to do it with 'paint' but is there a better method...
Great AAR, good job.

STEF78 -> January 1943 (10/17/2017 8:33:26 PM)

Turn 84, 21th january 1943

New era, for the first time except 1941 blizzard, soviet troops are on the offensive against fully entrenched german units.... and it works.

Strong counterattacks near Stalingrad

High tide almost reached...

We defintively give up Guriev's target

STEF78 -> January 1943 (10/18/2017 7:34:38 PM)

Turn 85, 28th january 1943

Battle extends around Tambov. I have strongly reinforced this sector with 2nd SS Pzk and 56th Pzk

Russians are really too strong near lake Elton

Sammy5IsAlive -> RE: January 1943 (10/19/2017 12:17:11 AM)

I think the worm may have turned.

Having said that I reckon the game is in the bag for the Axis playing a Peltonesqe 'hexes to Berlin' game. That wouldn't be much fun though - I'd love you to both go for a 1943 thrust/counterthrust slugging match like the SillyF v Brian G game

I have learnt a lot from Pelton but I don't use his maths style of playing.

Fun is the key! Winning or losing doesn't matter... I played several times past 1944 as russian or german.

Below an AAR where I lost but fight till the end.

One thing about Pelton .. great opening moves but I never noted 1 AAR that went to the end .. his opponents resign ... way too early .. much respect for sticking it out until the end

I know Pelton had one with smokingdave that went to the end.

BrianG -> RE: January 1943 (10/20/2017 4:04:09 AM)

Pelton quit our game in the middle. The aar is around here somewhere. And I may play slow at times but I've never quit a game.

And my first time ever playing against a player is in an aar here as well. That one ended with Berlin taken in 1944. I was the German.

BrianG -> Rumanians (10/20/2017 4:11:45 AM)

btw, what is your oob for handling the Rumanians. Are they strictly Rumanian or under German Generals?

Is Baku screen secure or could he break out? Photo pl or is that classified secret.

Most romanian units are under romanian command, I'm short of german HQ corps.

Baku's line is fine at the moment. It will not last... but no spoil.

And the OOB, growing week after week on both side. Summer will be bloody.

STEF78 -> February 1943 (10/20/2017 6:46:16 PM)

Turn 86, 4th february 1943

I thought that lower Volga would be a quiet sector in the next week. Not so sure anymore

Tambov's area shows moderate activity

STEF78 -> February 1943 (10/22/2017 6:15:46 PM)

Turn 87, 11th february 1943

Interesting turn. I guess Stelteck is wanting to attack but where? And what about german counterattacks?

2 answers are given below.

Soviets recon during blizzard isn't very efficient and Semion Bogdanov wants Stalin happy. I'm sure he was proud to announce the encirclement of an elite romanian unit...

... but a whole panzer army is refiting in the lower Volga area. We strike back. 2 tank corps are isolated

2nd example north of Tambov. this attack could be considered as a waste of men, AFV and guns. But it shows that no russian stack, even with 3 rifle corps, can be considered as safe. German army is still the master of the eastern front.

Stelteck -> RE: February 1943 (10/22/2017 7:50:32 PM)

Good job and surprise with the tanks corps.

Noone sane keep reserve panzer corps in desert swamp.... [X(]

Having played both side more than 10 times I try to think from the opposite side and as russian, I would have tried the same move.

STEF78 -> February 1943 (10/23/2017 6:30:34 PM)

Turn 88, 18th february 1943

Well this week shows how the game will evolve. Germans on the defensive, some success and counterattacks, but initiative is on the russian side [:(]

A new hot sector awakes. North of Baku, russians are launching an heavy attack. Losses are significant but it won't prevent russian OOB to grow

East of Astrakhan, the 2 tank corps were rescued...

... but now the Pocket is firmly sealed

A real defensive success north of Stalingrad. AFV losses look surprising...

And some fights around Saratov

Stelteck -> RE: February 1943 (10/23/2017 7:04:03 PM)

The reopening of the pocket with the 2 tanks corps inside allowed me to evacuate the trained 6 support units attached, but the tank corps are doomed. [:(]

For the Soviets do the support units just rout with the HQs or destroyed like onmap units when isolated?
