No news is good news.

As far as sub on sub action, when subs are in friendly territory they usually travel on the surface. After all, friendly fire is not more accurate or deadlier than enemy fire. In fact, friendly fire should not hurt at all . . .

1943 March 21

INVADED
Paoshan, Urumchi, Chungking are invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall
• No carrier sightings.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Enemy sub activity near Dutch Harbor, Kodiak.

• All convoys report no contacts.

• Lots of ships finished upgrades at Pearl Harbor today. All of the APA will be ready in one more day; almost all of the warships are ready; in less than a week additional relevant ships including BB Massachusetts will arrive at Pearl from the Canal; two more convoys with additional APA, AK, and LST will arrive from the West Coast in about 10 days. Loading of assault convoys will await those additional ships.

Pacific
• Enemy sub activity near Pago Pago.

• All convoys report no contacts.

• Our advanced search bases are getting a lot more attention.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• Enemy sub activity near Bombay

• Shock attack by our armor tomorrow at Bhamo.

1943 March 24

INVADED
Paoshan, Urumchi, Chungking are invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall
• No carrier sightings.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Enemy sub activity near Pearl Harbor.

• All convoys report no contacts.

• Praparations of naval forces continues and is almost complete with the exception of ships inbound (discussed earlier).

Pacific
• Enemy sub activity near Pago Pago.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• Enemy sub activity near Noumea.

• All convoys report no contacts.

Philippines

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

China
• Bombardments, non-nuclear in Chungking.

• Bad weather kept our warplanes from flying out of Ledo.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• No enemy sub activity detected.

• Our troops are beginning to arrive in Shwebo and it appears the enemy has ceded the place. We will not attack, hoping to keep fortifications in place and preserve supply. Even if local authorities do not capitulate at once the weight of troops and tanks which will shortly arrive will surely change their minds.

• Recon of bases just beyond Shwebo (Mandalay, Meiktila, Magwe) with 9/10 DLs has failed to locate the number of armored vehicles which would show the presence of the Imperal armored division which was recently up near Katha. Three possibilities: it is pulling back to a further defensive line; it is redeploying to the China border to counter attack our salient there; it is preparing for amphibious operations as part of an operation to undermine our heavy commitment in Burma.

• As anticipated, we are having trouble upgrading squads in Burma. Monsoon season is going to be a bitch.

• Bombardments, nuclear in Chungking.

• Our bombers flew and punished the advancing Imperial hordes.

• Sadly there were no fortifications at Shwebo to retain. I wanted those not for defense but for the increased daily supply cap once monsoon kicks in.

Yes! It's helpful because the lowest levels of fortifications are pretty easy to build.

The problem right now is that supply at the bases in Burma is very low and base building of any sort uses supply, so building is slow. There is no supply cap right now because monsoon is not active and I'm trying to build the bases as much as I can to air supply flow when it does.

• Our recon Rgt has crossed the river west of Mandalay, just in front of an Imperial infantry Rgt which is withdrawing from its jungle position near the Arakan. They are now speeding east to Mandalay. Only one enemy unit remains in Mandalay, an armored unit which is withdrawing to (more likely through) Meiktila. We hope our recon Rgt will seize Mandalay without losing any fortifications present.

• There is only one enemy unit opposite Akyab, down from four yesterday. We bombard tomorrow for recon, and a Rgt sized unit makes a river crossing from Akyab the day after.

• An Imperial bombardment TF is rounding the bend SW of Rangoon.
