ORIGINAL: Lowpe Ok, I really pretty much only have pbem experience shooting Allied bombers down. I did briefly use them in a Downfall test game with M-M a long time ago... My ground pounders are going to be the twin engine bombers: 6 500# bombs, no great defensive guns yet but the best I have, good range. British Bombers: Blenheims are being used at night only right now, and to transport supplies to China. Their defensive guns truly are pitiful. Hudsons: Again very careful use, some naval search units too. 4E Beasties: I have been super careful with them so far...and will continue to follow that route. They are pretty much restricted to recon, supply transfer, and strategic or infrastructure bombing. I don't plan on using them versus troops. Call me a radical.[;)] [image]local://upfiles/44178/BDB5642B1E2246988437BDAD284BF828.jpg[/image] Your instincts on use of Allied bombers are pretty good - as expected![:)] The Blenheims can be useful bombing troops unprotected by CAP. Their 250 lb bombs have less effect, but they will gradually build up fatigue and disruption and make the enemy less effective and less mobile. IIRC they repair fairly quickly too. The B-26s seem to be much less durable to flak than the B-25s. B-25Cs can fight off Oscars but Zeros always seem to do a lot of damage to them. In a few more months you will get some Wellingtons that carry 8 x 500# bombs - same as a B-17! And they have long range too! Of course that means they are cream puffs in an air-to-air fight. Another aircraft to use carefully. Liberators are much less durable against fighters than Fortresses, but their long range makes them valuable for deep raids to keep the enemy guessing and defending everywhere. I like hitting ships in port with them. [:)] The early Havocs have little AA suppression (not enough forward firing guns) and need a lot of training in low level bombing. Short range is also an issue so I use them for ASW or Nav Search close to my ports while part of the squadron trains in low level bombing.
