One suggestion to rationalise your West Coast coastal patrols that I've found useful is to really lean on Prince Rupert exclusively to support the North Pacific theatre, once you've expanded the port sufficiently.

This really cuts down on the coastal traffic, and coastline that needs patrolled, as rather than having ships going North/South, everything is East/West from San Fran or Prince Rupert.

You MUST have 2x TF carrying supply from Eastern USA to Cape Town throughout the game. If not, you can easily run low on supplies in India/Burma when 44/45 rolls around. Been there, done that! [;)]

I'd actually have far more working this route IMO. And move fuel as well. As RangerJoe says, there's plenty of ships for it.

I think in an ideal world, I'd look to use xAK's, mostly running off map to fuel the entire western half of the map and leave as many tankers as possible free to support fleet operations in the Pacific/Oz.

I learned the importance of Prince Rupert from Giants, and I am definitely building it up and working the lines there.[&o]

I am dispatching convoys daily to support Cape Town, Panama, Australia, NZ and now Port Stanley. India not so much, as I am using larger convoys there with an escort so they tend to accumulate at port loading or waiting for others to finish loading.

India can get supplies from Abadan and if a player is concerned about losing India (Bombay) with large fuel stocks, the fuel can stay in Abadan.

If a player wants to move oil to Australia for the refineries, then Abadan is the place to get it from as it provides a little extra oil as well. With no actual refineries there, all of the oil that you see can be moved out. But it makes sense to move the fuel first.

Aden does not get enough supply to haul it out except for when units are moved, then the empty spaces there can haul supplies.

Because I leave some units in Aden for a few weeks to fill out TOE, recover disablements and gain morale, I found I need to ship a little supply from Abadan to Aden. But if this game is based on a DBB mod, I think the supply generation from refineries is turned off. [:(] I liked the idea of being able to trade a tank of butane to the locals for some fresh food!

RangerJoe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/19/2021 4:26:12 PM)

The supply from the refineries should be the mogas, avgas, diesel, kerosene, plus the other POL products. The idea of putting ammo, fuel, or medicine in a fuel cell is not a good idea - unless it is sugar in a gasoline tank![;)]

The Eastern Australia skirmish...

TF Concord is looking to clear up a few minesweepers, and then bombard a Zero base.

TF Saratoga is looking to strike IJN warships at Bundaberg, in coordination with sweeps from Toowoomba and Brisbane. Only 10% CAP.[X(]

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/19/2021 9:07:28 PM)

We are back at Rockhampton...would have loved to fast transport there too...but alas no fast transports in the area. An unusual task force composition for me. I want to show different looks to keep the IJN guessing.[;)]

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/19/2021 9:12:29 PM)

So far so good, trying to take losses but clear the skies for the Saratoga's attacks. There should be a sub in Bundaberg fishing out pilots from the dogfighting...which does go Japan's way initially.

One thing I am not sure on, is that will the fighters sweeping raise the DL of the IJN Task Forces? Can't hurt right?

Disappointing, only one hit on a destroyer squadron...and only a morning attack.

TF Concord bombards, but no planes...

Assault on Nouméa coming in... I fear KB might be very close.

Did your Saratoga bombers hit anything ?

Top of post 1210...one hit, left destroyer on fire. The Asakaze.

Japan is sending troops out of Bundaberg to our holding position on the road...that is good, since I fear an amphib flank landing pocketing those troops.

2nd Marine Def Btln with CD guns is now set up at Maryborough.

In other news, Bandoeng continues to bulk up with reinforcements...now 166 assault value. Good work.

Ground combat at Bandoeng (50,100)

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 732 troops, 63 guns, 69 vehicles, Assault Value = 276

Defending force 17566 troops, 176 guns, 153 vehicles, Assault Value = 166

Allied ground losses:
11 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Assaulting units:
1st Tank Regiment
5th Recon Regiment
11th Infantry Regiment
12th Engineer Regiment
56th Infantry Regiment
Sasebo 1st SNLF
9th Ind.Hvy.Art. Battalion
8th Medium Field Artillery Regiment
14th Army
15th Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion
2nd Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion

Thanks, I thought that applied to the Concord TF. Better than nothing.

That bombardment is not bad either, given it’s an Omaha with a bunch of four-stackers. I always find bombardments by 4-inch guns to be lackluster, but here you got 4 supply hits, 2 fuel hits, and 30 other hits on the base.

And nice increase in AV at Bandoeng ![&o]

Dutch:

Swapping HQ to ABDA allows the unit to respawn in Aden. Such a tricky AFB boost.[;)]

Time to turn off reinforcements for the Dutch, swap a couple of units depending upon PP costs. I have to be careful here, as I have lots of restricted Yank units arriving at Cape Town shortly.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 1:20:43 PM)

Getting dicey here again...

I think Saratoga is safe for now, as I have patrols over in the New Herbides...we can hit Bundaberg with a naval bombardment with the cruisers from TF Saratoga, and it will catch the moving troops and help greatly in the coming days.

There are two ships in port, so a port strike might make some sense...or ground bombing. Of course I have to factor in four IJN destroyers too. Moonlight 60%.

At Sydney two more Coastal AA units the 19th base force and 808th Aviation Btln are unloading.

The 3rd Division is a little north of Port Augusta, and a Yank Field Artillery Btln is trailing slightly. Hope they can get to the coast in time.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 1:41:05 PM)

Misplayed this by losing a day or two of movement, and now I will most likely be caught at Mandalay.

Chittagong is good however. Diamond Harbor is bulking up fast with American bulldozers and engineers.

This is my focus, Lashio first, China 2nd, and Australia third. The Pacific will be dicey. Aleutians not even really thinking about.

RangerJoe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 1:48:48 PM)

If you divide the 2nd Australian, won't it recover faster?

If you can move just fragments of the buyable Dutch units, even just one device, from Bandoeng to another base, would you do that? That way, the fragment becomes the unit and would be much cheaper to buy out. Even just a fragment with universal support and engineer devices are useful.

Check the base forces as well if you have not combined them into the larger unit, you only need a fragment to come back to turn into the larger unit.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 2:09:06 PM)

Losses for the day. Buffalo pools are pretty good, so not too worried about the downed fighters, more worried about the pilots. 1 MIA, 1 WIA, 3 KIA for the day.

Hopefully the Salmon scooped a few out of the ocean.

Guess I got the Destroyer, just a little one, but every destroyer loss hurts Japan exponentially.

I needed to keep the unit together for the upgrade to go fast.

Plenty of almost destroyed Dutch units to buy out around the map. This is an almost no rule game, but still won't do that.[:)]

RangerJoe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 2:14:00 PM)

But if the upgrade is done, then you can split it now and it might heal faster.

You can always wait until the Dutch units gets really trashed to buy them out.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 2:25:08 PM)

Still feel somewhat positive about China...wish I could spot the Tank Spearhead. The 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions will crush me here longer term I suspect although Luzon and Singers are still to be taken.

I have split his attack spearhead of Changsha and have lots of infiltrating units still.

The 98th Corp was destroyed this turn near Keifeng blocking rail lines since the war started. Now, in 33 days they respawn at Chungking and can move west to the mountains for China end game.

Pity about their guns though.[:(] That is what we need, and why the Allies are sending armor and artillery to China. Or they make the perfect guerilla force should they move south and west.[;)]

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 4:29:33 PM)

The Vampire is a hard working Destroyer. With just 4" guns, and not that many of them, she is rushing out of Bombay to merge with troop transports coming from Cape Town and escorting them in. Other than that, no escorts.

Marines are unloading at Bombay. Diamond Harbor or Chittagong? Leaning Chittagong, and pulling some Commonwealth back to Diamond Harbor...but I think an amphib landing at Diamond Harbor is highly likely, so dug in Marines would be a surprise.

Abidiel is heavily mining Diamond Harbor...Will only use a few sub mines at Chittagong. Both have CD guns. I need more ACMs. I think the Abdiel will drop one more load and retreat back and become a fast transport.

RangerJoe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (1/20/2021 4:39:36 PM)

Each day that mines are laid, no matter how many ships, those become a new minefield.

Yes, dug in Marines repelling a landing would be a surprise - especially with armour support.

Edit: If you can make some US PT Boats but hide them at Diamond Harbor or Calcutta. Then the invasion ships can play "Bumper Ships!"

TBs at 100 feet might be able to attack before his CAP can respond, especially if any 4Es attack at a much higher altitude first.

Soviet air force left pretty much alone for the entire game so far.

Despite training at extended range, no op losses, and some training improvement.
