Answered my own question. [8|]

Phenix -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/5/2010 9:27:33 AM)

Is this game really scheduled for a summer release, is that realistic, it seems huge? :-)

Are TOE upgrades 'set in stone' for the axis player , can they be turned off/on

Great_Ajax -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/7/2010 3:45:56 PM)

They cannot be turned off.

The rail transport cost is based on the size of the thing your moving not the distance. A normal unit has a maximum rail move of 100 hexes but I'm not sure that is true for factories also. I'll have to note that the next time I move one in the current game I'm testing as the Russian and get back to you.

So size of a factory determines the number of factories that can be evacuated per turn? I was asking this question in the AAR thread but I guess this thread is a better place for it. Have you already had a look at evacuation in one of your game-tests ?

PyleDriver -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/8/2010 4:06:43 AM)

For the Soviet, everything in 41 is a balance act, what do I move out, what do I move in...It is the game for them...

I'll bet it's the 1943 "neu Art" organizations.

Great_Ajax -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/8/2010 3:15:29 PM)

Not sure what we mean by downgrade but the TO&Es start changing for all three in '42 to reflect new equipment additions.

wiking62 -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/8/2010 8:54:03 PM)

What are the command radii of each headquarters type and what are the negative affects of being out of command, ie supply, morale checks etc?

pejsek -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/12/2010 7:45:21 AM)

Is the rail capacity the only limit for soviet industry evacuation ?

If a city with industry is encircled, does it have effect on the industry in the city ?

If the city is surrounded you cannot evacuate the factories in it.

freeboy -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/12/2010 2:36:29 PM)

I think the ? ment does the production of the city, its resources or supplies or other things become affected?
If it is surronded it cannot either receive aid, supplies troops etc, or give out .. new equipment etc...
or maybe not
but thanks anyway I am uinterested in the game under the  game, ie how all this works !!
can you imagine how busy we will be here once this baby gets out the door? !!![X(]

Iron Duke -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/13/2010 10:38:18 AM)

Hi
How are Panzerfausts and Panzerschrecks modeled are they seperate devices or 'rolled up' in the late war Rifle squads combat values ?

Panzerfausts are included in the equipment of a squad; panzeschrecks are represented in two man teams.

Smirfy -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/14/2010 1:07:38 PM)

Not sure if it has been answered elsewhere but how is the defection or armistice of Axis allies handled? (the GGWBTS had a political situation in Kentucky). If nations do defect will Germany be allowed to attempt Margarethe style occupations? How is the Italian armistice handled for instance?

Finland, Slovakia, Rumania and Hungary can all be forced to surrender if certain conditions are met. Italy withdraws all its units from the Eastern Front. Rules haven't been finalized on how to simulate things like Rumania fighting on the Russian side.

When Italy sign her armistice, I notice Yugoslavia is on the map do the Germans have to find troops to replace the Italians?

No, the Italians are only in Yugoslavia to prevent the Russian player doing something weird like invading Rumania in 1942. Such an event would activate the Italian units in Yugoslavia so they could be sent to Rumania. The actual Yugoslavian garrison (which included Croats, Hungarians and Bulgarians in addition to Italians) is not on the map and the German units that eventually garrison Yugoslavia are either factored out of the game entirely or are among the units withdrawing from the Eastern Front.

Montbrun -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/16/2010 9:51:55 PM)

How is Bulgaria handled? Is it a "no-go" zone like Switzerland is treated in alot of games, or are there "triggers" to employ Bulgarian units?

I made a recommendation along those lines with provisions to add Bulgarian manpower to the Russian pool to simulate the Bulgarian defection but I don't believe the rules have been finalized on that subject yet.

The SNAFU -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/19/2010 6:02:54 PM)

I asked this in Elmo's AAR but it may be better served asked here.

Im wondering if there is an option to show stacks piled straight up one unit directly on top of the other instead of the sort of spread out view we see in the screenshots. That view rather reminds me of my old boardgames where a slight bump of the board would partially collapse my stacks all across the battlefield lol.

elmo3 -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/19/2010 6:57:58 PM)

I'm not sure what you are asking really.  The units are slightly offset so you can see how many are in the stack.  There is no option to have them stacked directly on top of each other to make it look like one unit is there regardless of how many are actually there.  Is that what you meant?

The SNAFU -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/19/2010 8:04:01 PM)

If you've seen the Panzer Campaign games by HPS or the old Atomic Games the stacks are 3D. It might be a nice option along with the offset view. Just a thought!

DivePac88 -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/24/2010 2:41:37 AM)

I am following PyleDrivers AAR, and I have a general question about movement;
# is the movement of ground units in the new game basically the same concept as the original game (War in Russia)?

E.G. Move = moving units in friendly controlled hexes.
Transfer = transfer of units between corps/armies etc.
Plot = combat moves in enemy-controlled territory
Rail = point to point rail movement.
Rail transfer = rail transfer of units between corps/armies etc.

Thanks Des.

Zovs -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/24/2010 3:17:53 AM)

There is no plotting. There are several modes (move, transport, bomb, etc), you can transfer if you have AP and you can move in friendly or enemy hexes if you have mps.

pejsek -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/24/2010 6:18:17 AM)

What are the conditions for a Soviet Unit to become a Guards Unit ?

It's based on winning battles, and also not losing battles within a given year. There is some randomness and there are also limits based on unit type so not every unit will be Guards even if they all met the criteria.

Yes, there was some indication of multiple units in a hex. This is really helpful when sorting thru stacks looking for units. You don't have to check evry hex. Nice to have an indicator when a division/corp has attached units.

USSLockwood -> RE: War in the East Q&A (3/25/2010 12:22:10 AM)

Any idea how long the beta testing will last? Just trying to figure out when I have to start stockpiling food for the release :)
