Hi Randal, it is true i would rather be in woods, but you have to fight where the fight is sometimes. I do have some depth and stacks so I am hoping they will hold up. Vatutin's men are fresh and should put up a good fight which is the best I can hope for. My opponent doesn't seem to be the real aggressive type so i don't think he will try to bite off to much, I hope [8|].

Odessa front is quiet, he is advancing slowly and I am just digging in.

Based on what Terminus is showing in his thread, maybe those guys are on to something[sm=tank2-39.gif] Romanians take is slow and easy and then DIG[:D]

randallw -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/25/2010 10:48:18 PM)

Sometimes a Soviet tank division is just a tank in name, and closer to a cav division in power; some of them have only about 50-60 tanks to begin with, mostly T-26 or BT.  Cannon fodder for two panzer divisions.

randallw -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/25/2010 10:49:52 PM)

The Soviets do a lot reorganizing in 1941; those Corps HQs are disbanded automatically for you, then some Army HQs spring up, again automatically.

Turn 6 is in and my moves are complete. Here are the series of screen shots. Losses are not to bad considering. I have avoided any major encirclements so far and he did not advance significantly against Leningrad that turn, probably due to low supply.

He encircled several divisions west of Kiev but the swamp was not covered so I managed to scamper units into it, they may survive if I am lucky. I am digging in at Kiev and along the Dnepr but I have no depth as I sent alot of my reserves to Leningrad. We will see how it works out.

My air loses are actually not bad at all because i withdrew anything he could hit after turn 1.

Here are the loses

Expect the city to fall this turn but I am defending east of it now

Notice he is not advancing here very quickly, the focus if farther North right now

randallw -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/27/2010 2:07:05 AM)

If he was making a strong effort in the South he could break out past Kiev within maybe 4 turns.

kfmiller41 -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/27/2010 2:32:58 AM)

Yeh, I know, but I am getting better at falling back. It is kind of like advancing, takes a deft hand to keep lines intact while still saving forces and it depends alot on how your opponent plays. I so wanted to go after that unit near Leningrad with everything in the area but decided it was better to keep defending.

randallw -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/27/2010 4:01:38 AM)

The thing to remember is that the Sovs are simply not as good as the Germs, and simply outnumbering them for an attack is not enough; the Germs are better in both experience and morale, so they can be pushed harder in attack, defend tougher, and recover from a fight faster.

Even on a successfull attack a Soviet unit will end up tired, and won't be really ready to defend on the next turn.  ( Fatigue being computed with factors such as experience and morale ).

kfmiller41 -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/27/2010 4:07:46 AM)

All true, which is why I didn't attack[sm=fighting0045.gif] Doesn't mean I can't think about it though[sm=00000007.gif]

Q-Ball -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/27/2010 6:40:38 PM)

Good AAR!

Only the Red Army can lose 1.1 mil troops and 7K AFVs in 6 weeks, and say losses "Aren't Bad". [:D]

kfmiller41 -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/27/2010 7:20:57 PM)

Yes it does sound strange, but after reading Comrades and Pyle Drivers AAR's it does seems like i am managing things ok so far. Really tough to tell right now.

Like Comrade Stalin says "Quantity has a quality all it's own"

Very True[&o]

kfmiller41 -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/29/2010 1:13:14 AM)

Turn 7 is complete. Loses are still not bad as I have avoided any major encirclements. I expect that to change as his infantry is up now (I am using recon now) and they will blow holes in my lines. I cannot establish depth all along the front as deep as I want but i have thinned the line where his armor isn't, I think [&o].

Here are the losses so far and the situation screens. Don't have time to do fancy stuff tonight so it is just screen shots. I have already moved so this is what I am sending the enemy.

kfmiller41 -> RE: Road to Oblivion GC Miller41 (R) vrs Belphigor (G) (12/29/2010 1:17:29 AM)

Smolensk, have some reserves to the rear and units are about full strength in this area. This is where I am strongest outside of Leningrad.

Gomel area, am thinner here than I would like. 5 Divisions cut off in swamp.

Odessa front, he is getting ready to invest the city. He is advancing slowly otherwise on this front.

Of course comments are welcome and advice as well[:'(]

Keep pulling industry out and headed east! I think you made the right move in reinforcing Leningrad,try and hold it. So he gets to Moscow what of it? In the winter he gets to re-enact napoleon's retreat from Moscow. Go get him! (In the Winter)[:D]
