I am so sorry. Oftentimes Americans just don't know one country from another. For that, I am truly sorry.

[ed] but does Norway v Sweden in some way inform in the premis?

Sami.

I am on the floor laughing. Warspite1 is NOT American. He is a goofy Brit. And God bless him and his home town of Uttoxeter.

Your getting confused...Natali was talking about himself\herself not Warspite.

Confused??? Me? Never. Well, maybe this one time.

warspite1, I am truly sorry for the confusion. I was talking about myself. I live in the US SW desert and our idea of foreign countries is Vegas, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and China (ok, and parts of Cali). We don't know from Europe, so we get confused sometimes. Maybe we are dumbasses but not in a nasty way. Please be a bit patient. Thanks. Sami

A handful of "We the People" petitions calling for the government to allow various states to secede cropped up following President Obama's reelection.

What is there to give more thought to? These petitions did not exist until the day after the election. These petitions would not exist if their guy won. It's just more dumbing down of the U.S., "I didn't get my choice so I am going to cry and pout about it".

Jeez. I don't care about this issue. Gun control is the evil we face.

All criticism of the White House is based on racism. What else could it be?

Mr. Biden is a decent man and an original thinker. I'm sure his ideas will eliminate violence. God bless his efforts

This is the biggest joke and tragedy all wrapped in one.
Disagree with the current President and you are racist because he is black? How specious the argument? It is not worthy of a response beyond this one.

And, Biden is a drunkard and a lying old fool. "Original thinker" is the most unreasonable of attributes given to him. His agenda is the American agenda ... I think not. His socialist coat well suites him.

RR

It is indeed a joke. I did include a winking face in the header. [:)]

Chickenboy -> RE: A new ACW.. (1/15/2013 12:21:54 AM)

Guys, the Cap'n was being sarcastic, I'm sure. Comparatively few remember Biden's failed Presidential bid from the 1990s, wherein he was busted for plagiarism. The Cap'n was using the clause 'original thinking' to remind this audience of Biden's particular frailty.

I suspect a different tongue in cheek approach is being used when the Cap'n refers to his 'inherently racist' disagreements with BHO. While there are some very good reasons to think this president is a poor one, some on the left would have you believe that-no-you must just be a racist (elitist, Republican, white man, rich person, 1% er, religious zealot, gun lover, etc. are other 'you must be an... arguments to trot out in these circumstances too).

Hee hee - welcome to UK politics, particularly during the Blair era. If one made any statement, query or question (regardless of how innocuous) regarding illegal immigration for example, that person was immediately shot down and denounced by the BBC, the Guardian, and other left wing organisations as a Fascist - thus effectively all debate was ended. I really have no problem with the atmosphere of politics. It is dishearting to hear people say "politics is so nasty today". Folks who say that do not know their history. Hear are a couple gems from US and British history:

He has all the characteristics of a dog except loyalty.
Sam Houston, American politician, on Thomas Jefferson Green (1801-63), American politician

He would kill his own mother just so that he could use her skin to make a drum to beat his own praises.
Margot Asquith (1864-1945), writer and wife of Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith, on Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

When I was younger, I liked to watch British Parliament when they all would say, "He-ah, He-ah!" I know they were saying "hear hear." I liked saying it along with them. I shoulda been a Brit!

Make it 48. Illinois gun laws are stricter yet. They don't let a little think like the constitution or supreme court overturning their laws stand in their way!

2ndACR -> RE: A new ACW.. (1/16/2013 3:22:36 AM)

Funny thing is, all the gun laws in the world have done little to prevent, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C. and host of other enlightened cities to become bastions of safety with little to fear from criminals. But then again, 75% or more of the gun crimes are criminal versus criminal so that matters very little to me. Now criminal versus non criminal concerns me greatly. But I am all for the death penalty to be used extremely loosely against people convicted of a wide variety of crimes, up to and including career criminals. The current laws, penalties, and prison set ups obviously is no deterrent, maybe it is time to take it to the max against criminals.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: A new ACW.. (1/16/2013 3:31:32 AM)

Actually, California 47, Virginia 46, New Jersey 45....taxes......Virginia is taxes and taxes and 55 mile hour speed limit on to many roads.[:D]

LOL...no, wodin, I wouldn't say that mate. We're not giving up guns just yet. May be just a wee bit early to make that conclusion. But different states *do* have different laws re: gun ownership. Some of them are upheld by the US Supreme court, others overturned (e.g., Washington, D.C.). What the states decide is of lesser legal importance compared to Federal statutes and constitutional rights when challenged.

wodin -> RE: A new ACW.. (1/16/2013 7:22:47 AM)

In the UK first thing was everyone had to be inspected and have the guns under lock and key, hidden from thieves etc etc..they where checked once a year. Then another shooting happened and everyone had to hand in their guns receiving little compensation. So it started with new laws but people could still own them, but ended up with them all being handed in. Even our air rifles\pistols are restricted!! Yet I can buy a hand crossbow..something I intend to get soon..zombies and all..

How does Illinios differ from other states, also are gun laws a state or federal matter?
Ron

2ndACR -> RE: A new ACW.. (1/16/2013 12:24:05 PM)

A lot of northern states, liberal states, make it almost impossible to legally own a gun. Hence the reason mainly the criminals have guns. They do not care about laws. Most of the restrictive gun law states/cities have the highest crime rates in the US. Criminals are going to go to a sheep heavy location instead of a location that has wolves in sheep clothing.

A survey done long ago, given to convicted criminals, asked:

What did you fear the most while committing your crimes?

A. the penalty handed down
B. The police
C. Private citizen with a gun

90% or so all said C. Private citizens with a gun are more apt to pull the trigger on a criminal. Non police do not have to tell a criminal 100 times to freeze, or put down a weapon, they will usually shoot first and ask questions later if they find a stranger in their house.

Gun laws are an interesting amalgum of Federal, State and even local laws. The local and state laws have primary impact, excepting interference / intervention of the Federal government. It gets to the point where some stores / offices / buildings, etc. have the right (sometimes questionably) to dictate what you will and won't bring onto the premise.
