Here's the new start of this scenario again. Notice that I didn't say yet again. I like this scenario. It's fun. And the map is beautiful.
Anyway, here's the starting positions of everybody. I looked around for targets for the bombers but there are precious few of them.
I'll have to move the units into contact to get some targets to pound. Meanwhile the fighters can do some sweeps of the various
fighter bases on the island and the mainland.

I'm going to try to get the various beach toe holds connected so all the beaches will have some supply.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 4:55:05 AM)

I just discovered some Axis fighters on the island of Sardinia which is nw of Sicily. And within range. So I'll have to deal w/ them too.
There's four bases on Sardinia and I'm thinking I'll need to do airfield attacks w/ my fighters by doing the dog-pile-on-the-rabbit ploy.
This is where I schedule some regular bombing missions somewhere on the map and then have lots of AS within range to ambush the
enemy fighters when they try to interfere w/ my bombing mission(s). And then after several rounds of that then I can put about three
squadrons of fighters on each of the enemy bases to do sweeps.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 5:21:14 AM)

Here's what I've done w/ the British. There's three divisions of British in the picture and they are all spread out expanding away from the
beachead. I've found and blocked some German units and I've got recon out looking for more. The rush north has already started.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 5:33:31 AM)

Here's what I did w/ the Americans. I've pushed them toward the north to get a buffer of territory between the enemy and the beach.
Not too many Germans yet. They usually show up in turns 2 and 3 or so.

Here's the positions at the beginning of T2:

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 7:56:52 AM)

Here's the positions after I've moved everybody. So far so good. The British are about to dispatch the Germans and then the axis of
advance is north.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 8:25:05 AM)

This is the condition of the aircraft after the last combat round. We just had the most amazing fur ball.......just about every airplane that
could fly was there, Axis and Allied. Look how many are in reorg now. D'oh. I'll have to take it easy on them for a turn or two.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 8:39:27 AM)

Here's the beginning of T3. The Germans have broken through my lines on the West side. Good thing I have a reserve to take care of
things like that. This may take a turn or two to recover my lines. And they may need some more boots on the ground.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/92125808029340A9AF58AF1D59ADE7C5.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 9:40:20 AM)

Here's the positions just before the combat phase is started. I'm hoping I can recover my front lines and then use the aircraft to wear
down the enemy units some before I start the pushing.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 9:49:22 AM)

Here's just after the combat phase. I've recovered the front lines on the West side but the Germans might do a phase two and attack
me again. And there's no reserve now. I'm sending the 51st British Division to the West side to act as a reserve.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 10:02:33 AM)

OK. This is just after the German T3 and so is the beginning of Allied turn 4 ( T4 ). The Germans attacked on the West side again
and broke through again. The 51st British Division isn't there yet so the Americans might just have to hang on for at least one more
turn. I'm thinking I don't want to just spread the British elements out interspersed among the American units, I want the British to take
the edge closest to the water and the Americans can take over just north of the British. Something like that.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 12:20:07 PM)

Here's my T4 moves. I'm counterattacking to see if I can't restore the front lines on the West side and I've surrounded a stack of
German stuff and I'm pretty sure it's going to fight it's way out of the noose. So it's not really cornered yet.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 12:36:18 PM)

Here's the positions at the beginning of turn 5. German attacks have forced the American to give way and the 51st British Division is
finally in a position to help out. Meanwhile on the East side, the British have dispatched that German stack and can now start the
advance toward the north. The isolated paratroopers have lost lots of men and equipment and they need to be rescued very badly.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 1:19:08 PM)

Here's my T5 moves. Still trying to straighten out the lines on the West side. On the East side we've connected the paratroopers with
a LOC and perhaps some small modicum of supply and I've covered him under the umbrella of some arty so I'm hoping we can save
them yet. I've sent some armoured engineers out to the north in indian country and he moved east and found some German armoured
engineers. Now that I've found him I can pound him by air.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 1:31:29 PM)

Here's some typical attack results of a German attack on one of my positions and the Americans were forced backward. D'oh.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 1:40:48 PM)

Here's the positions at the start of T6. I've annoted the picture to give you an idea what's going on where. The East side is doing
pretty well but the West side is being forced backward slowly. It's absolutely embareasing.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 2:20:22 PM)

Here's my T6 moves. I've set all the defensive arty to three-dot attacks and almost every bomber is on CS missions and so the front
lines might just hold better. We'll see.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 3:16:42 PM)

Here's my turn 7 moves: Still pressing north on the East side. So far so good on the West side.

Zovs -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 3:23:12 PM)

I am on turn 19 and on turn 16 I captured Messina. My counter colors are different. The only 'irritation' for me is the darn Luftwaffe is pesky, other then that I need to refit some divisions and get them ready for the Salenaro operations.

Fun scenario!

Are you using the version 2.0 of this scenario? Not that it makes much difference. I need to capture Messina by turn 16 in order to
do as well as you are doing then. Wish me luck.

I can't imagine why they are different.

I agree that the Luftwaffe is positively a burden. And they shoot well too. So um....where is Salenaro?

Yeah, it is. I especially like the tactical "feel" you get from this scenario. And the low unit count for each side. There are a lot of
turns but they go quickly.

Zovs -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 7:58:12 PM)

I am now confused!

The time stamp on my file is 7/8/2006 and I just located the file with a v653 on it!

Boy do I feel like an idiot!

I'll restart that one...

Hang on a second...

Zovs -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 7:59:49 PM)

Okay the new version I now got is 1.7, where can I get 2.0 before I start?

Zovs -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 8:02:24 PM)

Well now I am [&:] <- embarrased ? -> [X(] lol ...

I'll wait till I can get 2.0, and redo it ... and yes now my counter colors are same as yours ....

Zovs -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 8:06:03 PM)

Larry, is post 628 (darn it or was it 620) where you placed that attachment v20?

Telumar -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 8:58:22 PM)

Let me help - here on Steve's personal scenario depot: http://www.dizium.net/TOAW

If it makes you feel any better I did the same thing and had to look around for the newest version too. I went to Steve's personal site to
get it. Telumar's link works just fine. You can always find the latest versions there.

EDIT: I'll play slower so you can catch up to me.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 9:48:04 PM)

Here's what the East looks like now. Still pressing north. Overcoming German roadblocks and moving as fast as possible north.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/C42D37A5C82A431E9E50DB52790A2F94.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 10:01:19 PM)

I used a worn out recon unit to cut the LOC's of the westernmost group of Germans. So theoretically the Germans should be getting
weaker now and I can eventually overcome them w/ pounding by the air and arty strikes. I's going to take a couple of turns to work
right but it should be doable. That's the theory.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 11:23:59 PM)

Here's the East side in T9. I've got the Germans surrounded and uninvolved units are moving north still. There's surely a rearguard
that isn't visible yet at Messina. It's not like the Germans to leave it unsecured.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/31/2014 11:34:11 PM)

Here's the West side now. I've gotten a surround on some German equipment and it's going to take a turn or two to take it down but
I'm working on it. That cutting them off from their supply really helped.
