Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Allied #3. USSR. Land Combat.

The Soviets show that they too can roll low.

The second land combat, which results in the destruction of a German 88mm AT division and a Luftwaffe bomber was made possible by the losses the Germans took on the failed assault of Pskov last impulse. The German player failed to pay attention that he was taking both losses from the hex with the 88mm division. A mistake on his part and one for which he paid.

Though the Soviets lost a 6-2 MIL in the attack this MIL in from Leningrad and can (will) easily be reformed at the end of this turn and deployed to Leningrad at the beginning of next turn.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Allied #3. Malaya.

The sole reason that the CW took a land instead of a naval this impulse was to save Mountbatten who has pushed in by himself into Siam from Malaya. Mountbatten pulls back to the mountains of Malaya. An Indian MIL also pushes into the Malayan mountains east of Mountbatten to secure his right flank.

Southwest of all this, an Indian infantry division captures the undefended port of Padeng in the Dutch East Indies.

If the CW was only going to move three units, why not take a combined?

I phrased my statement incorrectly. I should have said, "The motivating factor that the CW took a land instead of a naval this impulse was to save Mountbatten ..."
The CW also used a number of land moves for their troops in Vichy North Africa.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (5/8/2016 9:42:08 PM)

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Axis #5. RN. West Med.

In the West Med, Vichy slips a CP out to sea and reestablishes supply to the non-territorials units in Algiers, Algeria, which is the last holdout by the Vichy France in west North Africa. Algiers has definitely been a thorn in the side of the allies. Last turn they didn't have the weather to attack and decided to wait. Not only did the Vichy transport in an AA division, an additional territorial, the 4-3 corps, was formed and added to its defense at the beginning of this turn.

The RN tries in vain to find this lone CP supplying Algiers adding to the already increasing level of frustration with Algiers and how long it's been holding out.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Axis #5. Germany U-boats. North Atlantic. Sub Combat. Round 1.

The wolfpack decides to ignore their own losses in favor of maximizing damage to the allied convoys. 4 USA CPs are sunk, 1 USA and 1 CW CP are aborted.

The Germans lose a u-boat unit and have a second damaged and forced to abort, leaving a lone and organized u-boat unit after this initial round.

Both sides stay, but the Germans do not commit their remaining, and organized, u-boat unit, instead wanting to use that unit as an impediment to allied naval movement, especially transports and convoys, through the North Atlantic.
