okay, thanks, got it in

had to cut Wendell down, not enough room for his correct full name

Odd, lots of FO's, most units I see, FO's were pretty rare, wonder if it was a recon thing (like a TO@E thing)

Originally I thought it was because it was a relatively green unit but other green units don't have as many FOs. Considering USAAF policy by this stage was to try and have only commissioned pilots it's amazing just how many warrant officers still came through the system right until the end (though never as concentrated as seen here with the 22PS)

well, I had two of them, will add these and make changes to the ones I had to put them on delay

you have anything on 3 ? I am totally blank with that outfit so far, GR II/33 could use some pilots :)

Very little on 3PRMG. No real pilot bio details but considering the unit has been in combat since Nov-Dec42 I've made the suggested exp levels reasonably good to reflect this.

Lt Col Dunn, Frank L. (Grp C/O); Exp 80
Maj Hoover, John; Exp 75
Lt Col Polifka, Karl; Exp 85

Not sure if Polifka and Hoover were Sqn C/Os or Grp ExOs but "Pop" Polifka was very highly regarded by the RAF, hence high exp rating.

As for GR II/33 nothing additional to what Laurent supplied.

Found a bit more out about GR II/33

GR II/33 had an establishment of 6 x F-5A as of 03Sep43 so the pilots supplied by Laurent (Arnould, Enfru, Gavoille, Henry, Leleu, Renoux) would be more or less full pilot establishment. This is only for 1e/GR II/33.

2e/GR II/33 wasn't operational until 14May44 (Spitfire PR.IV)

So I'd advocate redesignating GR II/33 > 1e/GR II/33 and reducing it from Squadron size to Section size and have 2e/GR II/33 come in with a delay (as a Section)

Hard Sarge -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (2/21/2008 4:24:28 PM)

had me confused for a bit, but I worked it out

we had both of them in there already (one is La Hache, and other is La Moutte)

I have made both Flights

had to change the names some

don't have the room for the full name

1 GR II/33 La Hache
2 GR II/33 La Moute (had to shorten it)

hopefully people will be able to follow it (I think once they use it they will)

Trueknight -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/25/2008 4:53:07 PM)

I find incidently some informations about italians pilots of the 51 Stormo. Do you already have everything you need, or it could be of any help? I think i could also find something more from italian only websites, if needed.
Let me know if i can help.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/25/2008 5:00:58 PM)

Yes Sir, i am interested in all pilots, which I am very weak on It Pilots

unit set up is odd, plus most info when I do find it, it is HARD to tell which unit the person should be belong to

to be honest, most of my "good" info on It Pilots are mainly with the ANR

Trueknight -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/25/2008 5:55:02 PM)

Umh...I think i found out much more infos than what i tought before. I think i'll need some time to "filter" it out. Tell me if it can help.

I have a list of italian "aces", both Regia Areonautica and ANR, some of them have reported the death date, the others i think we can assume they survived, and for all of them is reported the "squadriglia" wich they belonged. But, if the new game is similiar to the old one, it will operate at an higher level, the player will give orders to "Gruppi" or "Stormi", so the problem will be to find out to which unit the "squadriglie" belonged.

On another file i've got an OOB of the ICAF at October '43, and BAF at Fall '44.

And last i found some names and rank of pilot died, in the history of the "51 Stormo". It's quite sad that there's much more about the deads than about who survived.

All of this is written in italian.

What of this could interest you? If you prefer, PM me your email addres or MSN contact, so we can discuss about it.

EDIT: p.s. I can understand your confusion...in a couple of hour of search I've been already driven mad by the confusing structure of the Italian air force. And all of the documents are in my native language...

Hi Trueknight,

Post up any info you find on Italian pilots (particularly Regia Aeronautica or Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force) as there is much contradictory info on some of these individuals. Finding accurate data is very hard for non Italian speakers (like myself) so anything you find may be of use and allow the pilots to be placed in the correct units at the correct time.

Best Regards

Trueknight -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/25/2008 7:50:29 PM)

Hi. Sadly even the info i got are someway contradictory, even tough I found some names I'm quite sure that can be assigned to the ICAF since they got shot down and killed by Germans, but it's more difficoult to be certain of the unit. The 3 size of units and sub-units used by the Regia Aeronautica doesn't help, but i'm sure you know this better than me. Hard Sarge sent me the list of pilots and units he has and i will compare it with the data i found, and maybe i'll try to dig out something more.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/25/2008 7:51:47 PM)

Shaggy

from one of the BoB type forums, I been finding alot of good info on the BoB pilots

is that part of your interest ?

the list of RCAF pilots in BoB has been very helpful on my end

(our lists are different and for different reasons)

von Shagmeister -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/25/2008 9:07:00 PM)

Hi Sarge,

It's all of interest, whatever the period. Any pilot biographical data I come across (if I think it's accurate!) I put an my database so I can try and build up details of their careers, so that I can try and gauge their relative experience levels for BTR. I've 633 Italian pilots on the database, though they include bomber and strike pilots etc and many fighter pilots who aren't relevant to BoB or BTR.

I have the following pilots for the Aeronautica Co-Belligerente though you've probably got the aces in already.
Format lists Aeronautica Co-Belligerente unit and in brackets the Regia Aeronautica unit as of 17Aug43 if relevant to BTR.

Mllo Bladelli, Alessandro; 4º Stormo CT (?91ª Sqd/10º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT?)
Magg Casini, Gabriele; 132º Gruppo Aut AS
Cap Cimicchi, Giuseppe; ??132º Gruppo Aut AS??
T.Col Fanali, Duilio; C/O 155º Gruppo Aut CT later C/O 51º Stormo CT (C/O 155º Gruppo Aut CT)
Ten Ferazzani, Giuseppe; 4º Stormo CT
Cap Graziani, Giulio Cesare; ??132º Gruppo Aut AS??
Magg Mariotti, Luigi; C/O 9º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT (C/O 9º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT)
Serg Magg Martinoli, Teresio; 4º Stormo CT (73ª Sqd/9º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT)
Cap Piccolomini (-Clementini?), Ranieri; C/O 10º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT (Act? C/O 10º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT)
Magg Reiner, Giulio; 4º Stormo CT (C/O 73ª Sqd/9º Gruppo/4º Stormo CT)

I've included strike pilots as well as I'm not sure what units you've got coming in with the BAF. Bear in mind however that some of these guys would warrant inclusion earlier as members of Regia Aeronautica units.

Trueknight -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (3/26/2008 1:31:16 AM)

I'm a bit in a hurry, but i can give some insight about the "51 stormo", that fought in the ICAF officially from 1st jaunary '44, but they took some casualties since november '43. I'm using the same "format" of the post above.

C/O T.Col Fanali, Duilio

20^ Gruppo; C/O Capitano Leoncini (?) using MC205 till sptember '44 then Spitfire V
composed of
356^ Squadriglia; tenente Veronese, Alberto
360^ Squadriglia;

21^ Gruppo C/O capitano Dezzani, Remo; using MC202 first, then (don't know when they changed) MC205

composed of
351^ Squadriglia; tenente Melis,?
386^ Squadriglia; capitano Carotti, Trento / sergente pilota Riccioli, Gaetano (KIA in november '43)

155^ Gruppo C/O capitano Biccolini, Manlio; using MC205 for the entire war

composed of
361^ Squadriglia; segente pilota Carlucci, Armando; (KIA in november '43)
378^ Squadriglia;

the following pilots were shot down between Jaunary '44 and Jaunary '45 and all belonged to this Stormo but i don't know which Gruppo or Squadriglia...i think we can put them anywhere.

tenente Roesler, Franz
tenente Martinelli,?
tenente Franchini,?
sergente maggiore Baldini,?
sottotenente Mancina,?
sottotenente Sigismondi,?
tenente Marini, Arnaldo

My source is this website http://www.eaf51.org/
that give credits to the book "STORMI D’ITALIA" of Giulio Lazzati.
I noticed this book and another one about the italian air force after the Italian surrender from the same Author on sale at a good price on the internet...maybe i could buy them, but i'm not sure of the info i could find.

In the next days and weeks i'll try to send updates, but i don't make any promises, i'm really busy lately.

Hopes it can help

Bye

von Shagmeister -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (4/11/2008 3:58:21 PM)

Here is the first installment of Bomber Command pilots that participated in the 17-18Aug43 Peenemuende raid (perfect for the start of BTR). I've not included a suggested exp rating as I've not got much bio data on most of them, though most would probably fall in the range 60-75.

Makes a pleasant change to have so many bomber pilots other than C/Os and casualties. Lists should provide more or less full pilot establishments for most squadrons as Peenemuende was a max effort.

von Shagmeister -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (4/13/2008 8:51:23 PM)

Just a quick look at the latest OoB, you're quick inputting the pilots!

One thing I would say. I notice that most that you have entered have exp in the range 70-74. I think this is a little generous for non 8 Grp or specialist Sqn crews. Many would have recently come from OTU/HCU so I think 60-75 would be a better range where bio data isn't available. Obviously S/L, F/L & W/O should be at the top of the range as they are probably more experienced. Sgts should generally be at the bottom of the range, although many inexperienced pilots were F/S' by the time they were through OTU etc. P/Os are more problematic to gauge as whilst many will be baby officers, others may be recently commissioned NCOs with suitable exp.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Real Life Pilots For Inclusion (4/14/2008 8:07:08 PM)

I got a couple of names

George Ivan Rowland - G. Rowlands ? but he is a FO died middle of 44

this one looks better

Thomas W. Rowland - T.W. Rowlands, he is from 101 ??

I was looking for Charles A. Rowland for 609 and found those two, along with John J. 184 and Desmond H. Rowlands 97

Thomas Wilson Rowland is definitely correct. Chorley, CWGC & London Gazette have him as Rowland.

Lists above taken from ORBs which often have spelling errors, incorrect or incomplete initials.

oh, I understand about working with Docs

I am confused with what I been working on last night, same book, is listing different pilots with van , some are listed as van and others are listed as Van, so am not sure what or why they are different (same National background)

also, I am sure lots of people are going to think I am misspelling a lot of names (which there are going to be mistakes, either on my part or on others) but with in reason, I have tried to write them down as I see them, not as I think they should of been spelt

(LoL when I was in the Marines, we had a laff, part of your Intell score, was based on spelling your name right, you got 50 points for that, I had a guy in my outfit who scored a 49, but my question always was, who are you to tell me I am spelling my name wrong ?)

(even worse, his name was Boyd, kind of HARD to spell that wrong)
