Really? Crap - I have no idea when half of my upgrades happen. Will have to spend some time looking into that. Another good turn (Raver can post CR) as this turn I retake Rahaeng properly, take Moulmein (again, Raver not actually trying to hold anything here) and edge another base south along the Malayan Peninsula. I also crossed a river in the PI and port attacked - losses were about even on both sides but still dumb. The 10k+ troops already across the river just watched and had popcorn. A few air battles here and there (I swear I've shot down every plane at Singapore 7 times over). Elation is rolling along, prep work for Bert and Boris continues, I bombard the crap out of Naga again

Raver and I are really racing through the turns. Another good turn, although Raver's nuisance tactic in China is wearing thin. Think I might have a way to make him stop. More details later. I've had this crap ASW tf that has done nothing for the first month of the war (not entirely true, they've managed some good fishing and are apparently experts at card games). I replaced the TF commander with a not so talented, but extremely aggressive young Admiral and last turn SS Sculpin took a shot at one of my transports and missed. This turn my roving ASW TF gives her a smack. I take Malacca this turn, which leaves Singapore, Johore Bharu and 1 other base on the Malayan continent that isn't mine. I've got the airpower rested, and they'll beat the snot out of Singapore while my troops complete their prep work and rest up for the final assault. Operations on Luzon have taken a different pace unfortunately, with more slow buildup required to clear the hex before Clark, then Clark, then Manila. I'm hoping my reinforced sideshow force at Legaspi can now break through at Naga & rout the troops there. If I've timed it right, they'll be cut off next turn by troops marching up from Lamon Bay. That way I won't have to fight them again in the streets of Manila. The important IJN upgrades happen from 3/42 to 9/42 I believe - that should upgrade most of your DDs and CVs as well as a few BBs. Not much else will matter as in '43 you will be lucky to have time to upgrade. Xargun

Another quiet turn - there will be a few of these in a row now as troops move into better positions - rest/reduce disruption etc. etc. The only thing of note this turn is anothe rof Raver's ASW DDs got sunk by one of my subs today. Quite frankly, Raver's ASW has been **** this game, and my sub commanders have been brilliant. I've had 4 subs damaged (under 50 sys) and 1 sunk, for 7 DDs torpedoed, 4 of which have sunk.

A late Xmas present for Raver - tenacious Tanaka slips into Darwin and finds allied ships foolishly spread out over several 1 ship tfs. He surprises all of them, and long lances all of them, and slips back to a waiting port to reupply his long lances. Too easy on the whole (usualyl this game makes a japanese player cry, but now and then you just have to smile [:D]). Another sub commander (this one already with a kill to his name) has a swing at a DMS and misses, but at this rate I'm winning the asw war around pearl. That being said, whenever an asw tf turns up, I don't want any residual DL level on my sub so i always move them a few hexes evry time they're spotted or attacked. Another turn and another little bit of action. For starters I forgot to move my sub and look what happened! I'm still ahead though. In other news, I cross the river past Rahaeng and spank Raver's troops out of the way. No my other troops in Burma (at Moulmein) can cross their river and form a pincer with them. Things in Burma progressing at a satisfactory pace. I also started beating up on the isolated, starving troops on the southern PI but they refused to surrender. They'll just have to rot. In China I continue to sweep odd individual chinese units out of the way with 5 and 6 times their number. Raver will never get htese troops back into fighting trim, so happy enough for now taking Chinese units down and not gaining any new ground for the moment. The first stage of Boris has launched, and both stages of Bert have launched together today. You'll see some results extremely soon. Elation plods along like a dead duck, but there will be some results here too. Operation Puke, a hastily dreamed up stop gap operation was planned, approved and will be launched all on the same day -sometime in the next 3 days or so. Bluntly put, I'm working on the theory that since I didn't plan it, Raver can't expect it and there can't be any security leaks about it. Puke isn't that exciting however, now as good as Bert, Boris & Elation will be (I hope). I'm getting to the point in the game where I still have the initiative but I have so many options. It is critical to decide on a few long term targets in order to maintain said initiative. The sad part is that they had just dropped off supplies and were going to be sent back to somewhere else next turn [:@] I had no idea that the japs were even in the area, as I have yet to set-up my naval search sircraft (not that I have that many anyway, and I suspect that even if I did have then in place they still wouyld have slipped through).

And Raver, maybe time to swing some of your operations into effect. Maybe operation 'knee in the balls' would work. Or how about operation 'kick to the head'?? Sadly i think operation 'slap on the wrist' is all you have the resources for. Bring on 1943!!

Well, as you can see, Operation Puke: The interception of a whole bunch of ships at Darwin by Tanaka and his light surface combatants was a success. Subs with float planes are invaluable scouts for the japs. Don't send them onto shipping lanes where they'll get shot at - keep them nearby where they'll report enemy ship movements in! Operation Puke was dreamed up when I had a float plane spot some ships near darwin, then an overflying Mavis confirmed their presence - at this point I'd already sent Tanaka, but the Mavis confirmation was what I needed to send him in (otherwise I would have just sent him back to Kendari). All other active operations on schedule this turn - no extra delays so far. Bert and Boris are on track, Elation is still later than I would like but on par I guess, and This turn my ASW takes revenge for my lost sub at pearl and sends one of Raver's subs (Skipjack) to the bottom. Pleasing result all round, and a pleasing increase in experience for the crews of my ASW tf. In other news I drove across another Burmese river with little to no resistance from the allied defenders (routed two turns ago) and I beat Raver's troops on Luzon back another hex, as well as driving his Malayan troops south towards Mersing. Although i've sent in a smaller force, I think Singapore will fall first, as travel on Luzon is a nightmare. Takes forever.

The sneaky bananana boy is landing at Lae, now I have said in the past that I was of a mind to simply let PM slide, but now I have changed my mind and have a few traps set for the boy wonder. I am hoping that he will either blunder into the trap or try and bee too darn smart of as a result trip himself up. Either way it will be fun to watch. this is a really frustrating time as the allies as I can see a number of chances to really spank the bananana (hmm....bad choice of words methinks [:-]) but due to a lack of quaility ships I have to bide my time.

Well, Lae is secure - now I have the option of over land or over the ocean. As for traps, Raver has got some mines piled up at PM no doubt. I'm sure i can find a way around them.
